Today's Frankenbait
I just had a vision..... Havent put this together, but the image just swam into my head, of a twin-armed spinnerbait, with a large swimming plastic trailer, and the two blades removed and replaced with two smaller (2-3") swimming plastics. Sort of poor man's, backyard, mini A-rig. Hmmmm...

Fishing On A Budget
Buy a Spinnerbait, a Buzzbait, and a Chatterbait. Then buy a single pack of 5" curly grubs of the same color, use them as trailers. Why? > Inexpensive (great bang for your buck) > Easy to store and carry > Your plastics wont be torn up nearly as much, if at all. > You will appeal to all of the fish's senses > this can cover the entire depth of the water column > If you want to finesse it - swim the grubs by themselves > Unless you lose them, or some hawg bangs em up, they will last you a very long time. Then, get a pack of worms, and some split shot.

Lake Fork Live Magic Shad On A Chatterbait.
Ok, let me make sure I understood you correctly. So then, you feel that the bait excels as a chatterbait trailer, not because of its intended action by design, but instead by its ability to make use of the chatterbait's vibration, which is in a manner that is better than other trailers. Correct?

I must be only using them on the suck days.

Lake Fork Live Magic Shad On A Chatterbait.
Agreed, and yes we are speaking of the same bait. Which brings me back to my original question --> Why is this a great chatterbait trailer again? But obivously it is, no question about its effectiveness. I just want to know why.

Lake Fork Live Magic Shad On A Chatterbait.
I believe what happens is this... An oscillating blade (of any type really) creates a disturbance in the water which results in noise and vibration. But, to achieve this, it causes the water directly behind that blade to become turbulent. That turbulence flows across the bait in a highly erratic, and uneven sort of way. Long story short, the action of a soft plastic bait functions better in a clean, smooth, column of water. The action is less when swam in a turbulent and disturbed column of water.

x2 At best, I might pay $15 for a lure, IF its design offers something truly unique. Other than that - No.

Chatterbait Trailer? Swimming Fluke, Grub, Frog?
Tubes have worked well as a swim jig trailer as well.
