  1. Hey guys, Weather permitting I'm planning on hitting up Lake Frederick tomorrow afternoon for a few hours. I haven't been out there in a few months so I'm sure the grass is mighty thick, so I'll probably be scoping for some deep water structure, etc. I'll probably head out around 430 and plan on being in the water around 5. If someone would like to come along I've got an extra seat. -JC
  2. At 345 pm, surface temp was 94. It was crazy hot. No need to have it checked out.
  3. LMAO yeah they'd have my arse for letting the cat outta the bag on that place. Definitely not heavily pressured, we had one other boat on the lake on a Sunday! (And yes, it's a phosphate pit) Great times, no doubt. The saddest part? Nothing I catch up here in VA is really gonna get my heart going like they did. I lost one that would've scratched the 10lb mark. She was a monster. I learned some valuable lessons about trying to "horse in" big bass. They definitely fought differently, partly because they were so much bigger than what I'm used to up here. They were in very deep water so they were running for cover deep at first and then screaming drag again when they saw the boat. BIG fun. I can't wait to do it again!! -JC
  4. Just got home from a great trip to Florida. I went fishing with a few friends of mine down there, one of which is retired from fishing the FLW tour and as it turns out...taught me ALOT about fishing for Bass in the summer! The pics here are from the BAD DAY. The day before we took no less than 8 bass over 5lbs into the boat! It was awesome! (I'm sworn to secrecy on where we were fishing but it was a blast...no question...I'm spoiled!!) These guys all went in the 3lb range, except for the first guy. He was 4lbs 8oz.
  5. 2nd vote for Istapoga. The water's hot though...last I was there it was 94 in the afternoon. Fish deep and slow.
  6. I'll post up next time I'm heading out, I've been fishing in Florida this last week but when I get home I'll make a trip out there. It's generally pretty tough going out there but I think I'm going to try a few something differents this time.
  7. Hey man sorry I was ejected to the edge of the earth. Ok not quite, but Miami is close to the edge of the continent anyway. Hope you had a great day fishin.
  8. I used to use an Endura 40 on a 14' jon, I think you'll be satisfied. A few weeks ago I went outside to find my boat partially uncovered only to find everything where it should be. I have a "bass boat" now with a bow mounted motor and I purchased the Minnkota quick release device, it's basically a piece of metal you mount to your boat and another piece that mounts to your trolling motor and they slide together. The nifty part is that you can put a padlock on it to keep your motor where it belongs. This, I think, deterred my potential thief as they didn't come armed with a set of bolt cutters to remove a trolling motor. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Good luck with the new motor! -JC
  9. I have a Humminbird transducer from my install of my Matrix series. I'm not certain if it'll work with the 565 but if it will I'd be happy to send it to you. Good luck sir! -JC
  10. I choose to find as much humor in it as possible so I don't start hurling the ice chest at the offending parties. Actually I've committed about every dumb stunt there is at the ramp, save hogging it. I swamped my jon boat because I was too careless to put the plug in. That sucked. I launched my bass boat with dead batteries on an electric only lake, that sucked. I've done it all...and it was funny when it was me! I just love being out there at all.
  11. What is your schedule like? PM me and we'll figure something out. I've been running around on the river lately, I can use the motor and the breeze is nice.
  12. Thanks Dan! I had a shakey head tied on and I didn't try it. Low on the confidence with that bait...never had any luck with it. I'll keep trying!
  13. Mine is a 17' Xpress. I know the lake reasonably well, but I still learn something new every time I hit it. The late thermally stratifies once the weather gets hot and the bass suspend in open water for most of the day. They're hard as hell to get at that point and they're usually suspended over relatively deep water. There are several beaver dams that are good busy work for those times of day though, and the frog bite is a blast in the morning and evening over the grass mats.
  14. Hey guys, Anyone ever fish this area? I went down yesterday and drove around for a bit and fished a few spots. I only got one little dink on a topwater frog near the end of my day. Any advice is certainly appreciated! Once again I'm usually up for dragging someone along, have boat will fish. -JC
  15. Anytime someone would like to fish Lake Frederick and I'm in town I'm all over it. I have a boat and love to go, I just don't always have a fishin' buddy.
  16. Hardest lake in the area to fish in my humble opinion, but it's close so I fish it all the time. I've only had a chance to fish once this year and I pulled a 6# out on a watermelon senko, but it's tough going once the grass gets too tall!
  17. I own the Kaanapali's also. (Maui Jim) They are tremendous in regard to the lens quality and the comfort level. I love em!
  18. I was at the Bass Pro in Naples, Florida today. I got a 7' St. Croix Avid for $119! I thought it was a steal! They had several and they had printed clearance tags on them, I would think similar deals would be available at other stores. -JC
  19. Lost my PB on an Ika yesterday. Big girl spit it back at me, fished just like RW was saying. I have tried it other ways, but tried and true upside down is how I fish 'em.
  20. Absolutely. I heavy cover I use an insert weight 3/32 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15702_100010003_100000000_100010000_100-10-3 I find a box of these to be way cheaper and work pretty well if I need to add weight to a "weightless" plastic.
  21. lol sweet! Can't wait to get my grubby paws on it. Reelmech is gonna be the next advertiser to get my biz.
  22. Not to further muddy the water, but my Curado 101D does a great job casting weightless plastics. Better than my Sol, actually. I bought the Sol to improve on my performance I was getting with the Curado and the Curado still gets the call when I want to fish finesse with my baitcaster. (Although I usually fish frogs with it)
  23. Hey guys, I just ordered a Chronarch 51Mg from Bass Pro Shops. I like the look of the reel and the weight, and I love my Curado 101D so I hope they're similar. What do you guys think of the reel? I used the supporting vendors page here at BassResource.com to click through, that gets support for the site too right? -JC
