  1. That's cool! Can you make those without having the reel on hand? I'd be down to buy some depending on price....
  2. 2 count for what? Sorry I'm not sure what that means.... Does that mean an extra 2'? Does anyone know the approximate ROF for 1/8, 1/2, ect?
  3. Nice fish. Mine's in the Avatar
  4. Wish I could even touch my dad's stuff lol. We've always just bought our own stuff, but I like his stuff too, maybe he'll hand some down if he stops fishing as much or finally realizes he has too much stuff
  5. Awesome! Really cool to have a tour guy on here. Good luck in 2016, and in your other ventures.
  6. Right now I use a low gear for all craknbaits, but I'm currently eyeing a Tatula 6 gear to lair with my squarebill rod, and thinking about getting another longer rod for my deeper baits, which I think I'll fish more once I have access to lakes with deeper water from my kayak. I'll have to see if any nice used gear pops up in local shops or they put something on sale. I've been spending a lot of cash in local tackle shops more and more now because I don't like the big box stores as much, unless they run some type of killer deal. The employees are just better to deal with, and you can have friendly chat w/them and they actually know a thing or too about fishing. As for ratio, I know for Squarebills, Greg Hackney says he likes at least 6 gear so he can control fish, especially around heavy shallow cover. Makes sense, especially since most squarebills don't cause that much resistance.
  7. I've heard of people using SUP paddles and stakeout poles before, even heard about some tour pros using stakeout poles in skinny water, but never heard of this. May have to look into it.
  8. 1.5 Silent Square Bill in a basic shad pattern. Those 1.5 Silent baits really do well around here all year, but especially in the spring and fall, mostly die to the bass keying on shad movement at those times. 9/10 times with those its a feeding strike, then in the summer time i go to a 2.5 or larger bait and bump it off cover or use a noisy bait to get reaction strikes. Sorry for writing a book lol
  9. Quoting RoLo from the Junebug Thread Posted July 09 2015 - 05:36 PM "Junebug is a dark color, and in my opinion that's the sum total of its amenities. Any dark color would be the equivalent of Junebug; for instance Deep purple, Scuppernong, Black neon, Black & blue ~ ~ ~ What is a dark color? The more light a pigment absorbs, the darker the color. White reflects all light, black absorbs all light, green reflects about 50% The common thread between Murky water, Tannic-stained water and Muddy water is "reduced sunlight" (limited but not void). The angler might tie on a bright flashy spinner, but there can be no flash, where there is no light So a better option might be to move in the opposite direction, and throw a dark color that absorbs existing light. By absorbing all existing light, a black object contrasts best against a background of low light Roger" I find that this is good info that RoLo posted in that thread. Probably one of the most informative post I have read this year. RoLo, I hope it's not a problem that I used this post, like I said, I just learned a lot from it, I want to thank you for posting it. Please recognize that the quote above is RoLo, and I don't take credit for any of the information in RoLo's post.
  10. So if my line stops moving and goes slacked it his stopped? Probably a stupid question but one of the areas I fish is only accessible by foot, so I don't have any type of electronics unit to tell the DOW, so the best way for me to tell that would be to count a bait down. Also, wouldn't the type of bait change the ROF?
  11. Work is for people who plan to retire and fish
  12. Go for the 100. Check Gander Mt if you have one near you or their website or Tackle Warehouse. Your rod sounds like a decent introductory rod. I have not tried any P Line so I'm not much help there.
  13. Then go for it! If you find you don't like it for that purpose, you could always assign it a different task or sell it.
  14. As long as there is a sexy shad type pattern in happy!
  15. Really depends on where you're fishing at and what those bass are eating, I think this is a huge part of fishing. I'm not gonna fish blue gill/red ear patterns on the lake I fish most of the time, because they are eating shad. Exception to that is immediately postspawn, where grinding a blue gill/ red ear pattern squarebill on shallow flats elicits vicious strikes, but this dies off after about a week. In the "Junebug" thread, we talked about with plastics how dark colors will absorb more light, and this can be important in off color water. I also don't think you need a ton of colors and could probably get by w/2 squarebills. I own so many Squarebills, different colors, brands, shapes, sizes because I like to try different things. I like to test the action of different baits and see what I like, and I have plenty of different colors, so I can figure out what I like best. In the end its a lot of trial and error. Figure out what works where you fish, and then go with it, until some drastic change in the ecosystem dictates otherwise.
  16. It wouldn't be my first choice, but you could try it... I would probably use it for Spinnerbaits personally
  17. Yum used to make a bait like the one you described. They can be found in Walmart bargain bins from time to time, even though I hate shopping at Walmart... But that's a story for another day
  18. Wow. That speaks. I just bought the Outdoor Life Total Survival Manual for $6 and am working on my survival preparedness myself.
  19. Unless you plan on using it, leave it be. Its unethical to put them to waste like that.
  20. But the OP wants free baits
  21. I really like the look of the Loomis. I held one at a local shop and thought it felt nice. I would be more inclined to buy the Loomis over the Shimano rods.
  22. He could be talking about Yo Zuri HD Leader?
  23. I am a fan of Matt Allen's work. I will have to take a look into that specific video, as I had not seen it before, especially if you do recommend it.
