  1. No reason to switch for me. Trilene XL does everything I need for cranks and spinnerbaits. As for contact baits, braid and fluoro are king. If it aint broke don't fix it.
  2. For braid set up try the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock. If you don't like braid you're only in it for like $50. I bought a used one for 25 bones for my first braid outfit and love it.
  3. Same here man... I love hoodies... Just feel comfortable in them... Got a hood on right now lol. And I usually fish way out of wack, and I listen to a lot more than the typical country music... My mom tried to tell me if I liked fishing I had to like country music, and then I pulled out the fact that KVD listens to Metallica before tourneys and Skeet Reese listens to Eminem lol
  4. Lot's of good info here. Really the best thing you can do is go out and fish... Do you have a friend who is really into bass fishing or know someone with a boat? If so, going on a trip with them can be a great learning experience. I learned from my dad, and having a mentor is something that is very helpful in this sport.
  5. Cabela's Fisherman Flat Sided Porkchop comes to mind.. But it has rattles
  6. Depends on how you like to fish. Personally, I fish a lot of reaction baits with resistance, so I spend more money on my reels than rods... But if you like to fish contact baits then a nicer rod would be a good investment. There are plenty of good ways to get setup in that price range though. Since it will be your first casting combo, I'd go with a basic all around setup w/a 6'6" MH rod and a reel with a gear ratio of around 6:1. Reels that I've personally used and would recommend are the Lew's Speed Spool, The Cabela's Tournament ZX, and the Lew's Laser MG. As for rods, I like the Berkley Lightning Rod... But somebody with a little more experience with nicer rod might be able to give you some advice on that.
  7. I one time watched a buddy swim across a deep pool in a snake and gar infested creek just to retrieve a Hula Popper.
  8. Going to take all of this in mind. I'm gonna clear my work schedule for Memorial day weekend now that I have enough money to pay for my insurance and a few extra things... Hopefully should be able to spend the whole weekend Hawg Hunting!
  9. There is no bad day fishing. I would rather be fishing than at work or school any day of the week.
  10. New braid cam go a few years if it fills the spool. I change mono out at the beginning of every year.
  11. I think you would get better distance with #50. I would only use #65 in heavy veg. 20-30# would be fine on spinning.
  12. I bought a Jawbone jerkbait and it seems pretty nice. I hope Dick's continues to keep them well stocked. The frogs are soft for $3 too. Good deal man. Nice setup btw.
  13. Big Bite Baits Pro Packs. Good price and quality.
  14. I have a BPS ProLite Special. Same frame. Nice reel
  15. That and court trials.... Bills 1-0 Pats 0-1
  16. It's about integrity. You don't make an example and everyone just goes on thinking cheating is ok, not just the Pats. It's not about the game. The Pats would have won anyways. And they knew that. So the fact that they blatantly cheated says to the rest of the league: We don't care, we are above the rules. We will do anything to win. Make an example, and maybe NFL football will be worth watching again.
  17. I think that a wacky rig may be to slow in a deep body of water if you are impatient, but a drop shot would definitely be a good option. Figure out where the fish are in the water column some how.. (The million dollar question) Then suspend that bait at the same level and drag it across the bottom. I'm thinking that would be the ticket. A Ned Rig may also work... I've never used it, but I plan on trying it out on a local clear stretch of creek here soon... But I don't know how it would fish in deeper water.
  18. Its a type of knot. When a flipping hook is snelled, it causes the hook to kick out on the hook set, thus penetrating the plastic and the fishes mout. It also does not slip while using braid.
  19. Confidence thing. I lil the Trokar flipping hooks, I believe its the TK130 model. I'm not worried about straightening that bad boy out, and I feel I get a better penetration of the hook.
  20. I always use super glue. I used to use straight shank, but like the EWG better. I'd still use a straight shank flipping hook with a snell for creatures though.
  21. Nice rig. How do you like the Power-Pole Micro?
  22. What knot's where you using? I kinda think braid feels weird myself.... Been a mono guy myself for a while.
  23. Nice article. I'm a fan of Stephen Browning, even though he is not one of the "Big Name" guys.
  24. Same here. I've never done well with unscented, so I use scented stuff for my own confidence.
  25. If you are just getting one go for a 6'6" MH like said above. BPS is having some of their older model rods on sale and I've heard nice things about em. I would personally not buy a Veritas as I do not like the look. The Berkley Lightning Rod series is also a good decent option especially at its price point. Good luck!
