  1. I use the owner snaps. the middle size is best on normal size cranks and the smallest ones are great for trout fishing.
  2. ugly sticks are heavy and have a very slow action. With the black friday sales coming you may be able to get into a much better rod. I like fenwick as a budget rod and you might be able to grab an elite in your budget during black friday.
  3. what type of breaking or how it feels in your hand. Which shape fits your hand. They are both the best companies and do you want to drive honda or toyota.
  4. Don't know if they are a board sponsor and people get all up in arms about other sites.
  5. There are great places to fish in ct. I lived in the new London area and know the lakes and rivers a lot better in that area. I would recommend candlewood if you can get a boat its the small mouth heaven of the area. The CTfishfinder * has my reviews of CT lakes and threw the years has had a lot of active members giving good reviews.
  6. I think you can use small plastic swimbaits and find the colors and sizes that work in your area. I love the swimjig but have only been successful with the keitech trailers. When I was fishing the kitsap area earlier this year the 4" shad impacts in ayu were getting bites and the 3" while drop shooting was getting me a mix of trout and bass. I use a serbertoutdoors 1/4 or 3/8 swimjig in a color he made to match the ayu trailer. It is also working well here in TN. I was fishing the jig very slow in both states to get hookups, fast or burning it produced nothing.
  7. You should now be looking for the black Friday sales. I use TW a lot and they run a good sale. I would use the time now to be sure which unit you want so when the sales hit you can pull the trigger.
  8. Handling for me. I like 40 for jigs and single hooks and I have cast off baits with 20. just what I like on a baitcaster. I run 20 on a spinning rig.
  9. If you have a boat and two fast action rods I would grab a 7'6"cranking rod 4 or 5 power depending on size and depth of baits you use. I have the dobyns 764rm rod and it's great.
  10. i have and enjoy 2000 series daiwa reels. Most bass fishermen like 2500 but the reel weighs so much more. Using fluorocarbon is what would drive me to a larger size but i use braid and a leader so i am just fine.
  11. How about some good professional reviews. a used sol or the advantage. TT does great reviews give them a read
  12. Do not put less oil in the mix thats how you seize up a cylinder. You may try a different stabilizer but seafoam is supposed to help clean out carbon, which will increase smoke production. Oil may be getting past the rings and increasing smoke production it may be time to re-ring the engine.
  13. I learned on a daiwa 153htsl. they can be found cheap and still a great reel today
  14. I use a fenwick elite bass ml/xf for dropshot and weightless plastics. I love the rod and as long as i am on the water i think it works great. Bank fishing i would like a little more horsepower to keep them coming my direction away from structer.
  15. if you decide to build a custom rod do a lot of reading at anglers resource * about the diffrent guide systems and guide trains. spinning rods benifit the most from a custom build IMO.
  16. I would grab a used Daiwa advantage hts/htsl and a used dobyns dx 795 and call it a day. You might be able to pick up a lamiglas excel 735 which I also use for punching and frogs. The older orange blank is a decent stick if you can find it and normally very cheap.
  17. This is my first year here so trying to figure out how the weather is affecting the fishing is a little of a mystery. It is nice to be able to go outside and enjoy time with the kids in my yak though
  18. I like 30 on a baitcaster so i can deal with a backlash or not have missiles in orbit when i do. I think its a great size and works well for me.
  19. There are some very cool reels out there that you may want to check out. The AOI reels are nice, an ITO, the spinning ITO's are supper nice and fun to look at. Want a round reel check out a monoblock. My personal goal is to own a millionaire IZE http://japantackle.com/reel-archives/casting-reel-archives/daiwa-millionaire-light.html
  20. one option would be to use a set of cutters and then use a small file to clean it up. The hand tool option reduces risk a lot. If you don't have a file then your girls emery board might work in a pinch.
  21. .333 moa is about as good as it gets. you may eek out a little but the cost is going to go up a lotttttt. Some great information can be found on 6mmbr.com with loads bullets and other recommendations and information.
  22. I like the fenwick eliete bass 6'10"ml xfast rod and i use older daiwa reels as i feel the quality is much better. The sol fuego and advantage are a few years old now and i feel the best reels around. For some reason i use the smaller 2000 series spinning reels and love them.
  23. i fish two options and the jigs are very different. I love the serbert jigs and fish them most often. He made me an ayu color that has worked very well with the keitech fat impact. I also like the keitech jig but there very expensive. the hook is in the bait and works like a standard swimbait hook
  24. I always think it is weird that people put the larger unit in the back. You have to look down a lot further when standing and fishing in the front. I would run the larger unit on the bow if possible.
