Live vs Artificial
Catching fish is catching fish. The way you do it is up to you. There is no wrong or right. I prefer using artificials myself. When I started salt water fishing all I used was live or cut bait. Now I use only lures whether it's fishing for specks n reds, snapper and grouper or yellow fin tunas. I have always used lures for bass fishing though. I enjoy the challenge and I'll stick to it even if everyone is getting bit on live/cut bait. Now, white perch is a different story.......!

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Here's an interesting article. There's a section that goes against the latest bassmaster report of Toledo being fished out. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/story/news/2016/07/01/monster-bass-toledo-bend-conditions-ideal-lunkers/86499320/

Help choosing my 3rd rod please
Just stick with your crucial/spirex combo for lighter lures unless you really have to/want to get another set up. You have a heavy casting setup and a medium spin set up. I would personally get a med/hvy casting set up and you'd have a lot of stuff covered. And to answer your question about the stradic. Yes, it's worth the extra.

Show off your Stuff
My girlfriend got me this for my birthday July 1st. Steez 7'4"xh so naturally I had to buy a matching reel. Steez 100h deep spool. Gonna be my frog/heavy football jig/flipping set up. Among my 4-5 other frog/flip rods lol

I have $400 to spend?
Id atleast buy mid quality gear. Dont buy cheap and end up spending more to replace it in the future. Start off with decent gear. If you like the sport then your gear will keep giving you years of service. Look around and be patient, there are deals all the time. Here's a "cheap" combo that not only looks great but also performs great. DAIWA freams 2500 reel (blue, black and silver model) on eBay $110, okuma tcs 6'9" medium plus rod (also blue and black) on jet.com. With 15% off you get the rod for $90 shipped. The rod and reel matches in looks too, which is important when you become an obsessed anal fisherman who has to have all combos match up in looks! Lol. So for 2 bills you get a really nice set up with $200 left for tackle. Get some 15-20lb braid and your set up.

Any tatula ct users ???
I have the ct type r. Original tats and original Tatula type r. I don't see any less quality from the new ones. Great reel and solid performer. I love the new size, even though I never had a problem with the size of the first ones,

siebert dredge jig
I truly believe I have a higher hook up ratio and landing rate using these jigs. Enough to where my friends believe too from fishing side by side with different jigs.

Anyone know whats going on with GLX rods
If you buy from tw then you are getting a new rod. But every demo rod I bought couldve passed for new. I'd buy more nrx rods for that price. But there's something about a glx and when you set the hook. It just feels right.

Anyone know whats going on with GLX rods
You can also get Glx rep/demo models for a lot cheaper. In the imx price range actually. The glx is my favorite in the line up. I have them all from weibe style imx/glx to the nrx series.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I fished Louisiana islands last night (the 7th) and there were bow fishermen on Texas islands. They had some bright lights. I shot a 140lb alligator gar last year on Toledo, actually it was my very first bowfishing shot! The gar was released alive. The arrow only went past the barb.

How To Clear A Dig-In With Braided Fishing Line
Here's a tip when spooling. Leave the line in the box if it is made of paper. Stick a screwdriver through the box and spool and apply a lot of tension. For the ones that have a plastic cover just use a towel under the spool and do the same thing. If applied real tight, the line will never dig in deep enough to cause problems, especially using 30lb. I've broke the line off and straightened hooks with having to only apply a little pressure to take out a small amount of dig in. The amount of line casted out and retrieved will of course not be as tight as originally placed but should not have problems. Bottom line is that if your line is digging in that much your not putting braid on properly.

Enigma
Pi** poor wraps on the edge rods. Literally the worst wrap job I've ever seen. Only checked out one model though. Might've slipped through QC. Looks and feels cheap. Jmo

Sufix Performance Braid
I use performance braid a lot. I prefer it to 832 for flippin and pitching. It seems to hold up a lot better around wood. I've never though it was a stiff line. It maintains a round shape and is tightly woven. It is a little thicker than the 832.

2-Piece Casting Rods
I have 2 shimano exprides. They are both butt joined 2 piece models. Can't even tell once they are together. Different than most traditional 2 piece(middle joined) rods. No flat spots. Exprides are really sensitive. I got both mine on the bay for less than $150 each.
-
Daiwa Ardito Assembly
Do not try to put the pieces all the way together. They are designed for the ferrule to be somewhat exposed. It gives the rod a long time to wear down from puttin together and taking apart. You'll see this especially in surf rods. You'll know when to stop.
