When I read this topic headline, I thought, "He has to be talking about Dead Space". Christine won't even watch me play it.

This one was two inches past the minimum requirement so I was ok. You're allowed 10 per day so hopefully I'll catch a few one day.

Feels like forever since I actually posted some catches. Oh well. I went out to St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge hoping to tie into some redfish, sea trout, and maybe some bass as a fall back option. High tide was going to be around 1:45 and I made it there by 1, so I was feeling pretty good. I cast a bunch of suspending lures for a while, working the oyster bars and some of the inlet cuts. Nothing. So I finally switched to a 1/4oz D.O.A. shrimp and worked it really slowly, giving it between 3-5 twitches as I raised it up through the water column before letting it settle to the bottom again. This took a long time to do, but before I could retrieve my very first cast with the shrimp, this guy came and ate it. I had never caught a flounder before, and quite honestly, didn't even know how to hold it (notice the pliers). Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring ice for the cooler so I had to pack up before too long. A really sweet older couple actually had a freezer pack ice block they let me have and were kind enough to snap these pics for me. It wasn't real big, but I was excited to get my first flounder. Filleting him was a pain, but I'm looking forward to surprising my fiancee with him for dinner. Anyway, here's some pics:

I'm glad to see that Virginia is catching up with the rest of the country and banning smoking in restaurants. I can live with the smoking in bars- I'm a realist. But when I go to places like Kentucky or Virginia for dinner and I'm asked "Smoking or non smoking?", I just want to laugh.

Live bait= boring. I have decided to head to St. Marks tomorrow and see how it is there.

I was at Sportman's Warehouse today in Tally and the guy had put the picture on the bragging board in front of the store along with some business cards. I wanted to take a business card, or take the picture and his cards down, or write "dead fish" beside the pic, but sanity finally came over me. I'm not gonna mess with the guy's income. But I'm not gonna recommend him either.

Actually, reading your post reminded me to cancel my subscription to Bass Insider. So, you saved me a few sheckles at least.

It would help to know what region you are located. Saying you live on a canal makes me think South Florida. If so, you can absolutely catch bass through the winter (and then get to brag about it to the Northern guys ).

Why? My parents smoked in the house, my sister and I are no worse for the wear. My mother did too. It's been proven that second hand smoke is terrible for people. I can't imagine subjecting my son to that stuff. It's essentially poison in vapor form.

Don't worry, Vince is next on the list. I'd like to hit him in the face with a shovel.

It blows my mind how people can smoke in their own home. I gotta tell you, I hate being around smokers. The smoke gets in my eyes under my contacts and the smell nauseates me. I don't have a problem with people who smoke, just don't do it around me. Fortunately, the few people I know who do smoke don't do it around me, or more importantly, around the baby. My brother and his wife smoke around their kids and it shocks me that people would still do that.

I'm not a religious man, but I pray nightly for God, Allah, Buddha, or Oprah Winfrey to smite tv pitchman Billy Mays from the face of the earth. I can't get away from this guy. Every commercial is a guy looking like a chubby, demented Baldwin brother YELLING at me to buy something spectacular! Am I alone in praying for his downfall?

Under no circumstances would I harvest that fish or any others over 10 pounds. Actually, I haven't harvested a bass in 10+ years. Why you would want to affect the future of the bass populations like that, I have no idea. Take a picture, get your measurements, and get that fish back in the water. If you want to get a replica made, that's just fine. They look better and last longer. The fish looks a lot better being released than it ever would on my wall.
