  1. I trim all my jigs I make. And I have no idea why I didn’t think of doing that lol. Wow what a duh moment
  2. I’ve caught some fish on a 3.5 inch spunk shad with the mini max. But it just isn’t much longer than the skirt. What is your favorite trailer for the mini max? I wana give them a honest shot this year.
  3. Now that’s one I never thought of is steady temp and pressure
  4. I like my finesse jigs around 3/16-5/16 personally. And a compact trimmed skirt.
  5. I could not agree more. To many take it all for granted.
  6. Thanks @Swamp Girl for the positive vibes. And I hope you’re surgery goes well and heals fast. Ya know what bothers me? The know it all bully’s on this forum that don’t necessarily contribute just give smart mouth answers. Some of the people on here are hammers. True fisherman and know fishing but also fish and their habits. I hesitate to even post questions on here after 15 years of bass fishing. And usually message to keep from getting ridiculed or violating some non sense rule because I said a brands name or some crap. I’ve been here a long time and love it. But my god. And ya know what? I don’t give a d**n if my guides freeze. I’m there to enjoy fishing and nature. Go be an elite series fisherman in your own mind on your boat. And catch those 10 pounders. And get ticked when ya don’t. I’ll enjoy my day all the same and know I tried.
  7. No walleye were I fish. And I had one on yesterday. But it got off. I’ll fish anytime there isn’t hard water lol. I don’t have a boat so the ponds thaw a lot faster than lakes. And I’ll be there
  8. And Pat with the educated logical advice!!!
  9. Hopefully you have many more years to catch them.
  10. And? Pats a great fisherman. I fished Florida for 20 years. And a whole ton of my experience carried over to Iowa.
  11. That’s what I was thinking also. The amount of time the sun will be out isn’t gonna warm much I’m gonna give it a shot. Persistence lol
  12. That was what I was thinking. I love the early mornings in the summer. First one out as the world wakes up. Maybe I’ll wait tilll the afternoon
  13. Does anyone get out for early mornings in early spring. Those cold mornings in the 30s but afternoons in the 50s. I love early mornings. And I think I’m gonna try next Saturday we have 31 for a low and 50 for the high and will be 5 days out of our cold front
  14. That’s me and that’s what it’s all about.
  15. I fish 3 colors generally. And rarely change while out fishing. I feel I do a lot better focusing on profile and presentation
  16. Can’t say that I fish any lures that I worry run straight. If a trap or buzzbait runs to the side ehh I don’t mind at all. But I don’t fish any crank baits or something I want to actualy run straight. And jigs and Texas rigs don’t matter lol
  17. Once again thanks Pat for new person to watch!
  18. Absolutely. Give situation best practice was executed
  19. Ponds are clear my daughter and I went out for an hour. Wind picked up to 20 mph steady. We are getting a cold front. Threw a 1/4 ounce rattle trap and same size jerk bait. No bites. A ton of filamentous algae to catch with treble hooks. And backlashed my reel beyond repair casting into the wind that picked up. Had a great time though! Can’t wait for true warm weather and the water temp to pick up!
  20. No pics. But we have had odd very warm weather for February in Iowa the last couple weeks. So one of the ones about 1/4 of it doesn’t have ice. You bet I went and threw a ned rig lol. Saw lots of minnows and one bass flash when I walked up. Felt good to go try atleast. We have 2 more days before the weather gets cold again for a week. I may try again even tho the water is in the high 30s.
  21. No problem! It really is a great forum
  22. Nothing wrong with that jig at all! Go catch some fish on it man. And they will flare and flow different when wet. Some of my rubber jigs look nuts till they are wet. That’s a good looking jig. Enjoy catching fish on something you made. If ya ever need anything feel free to message me
  23. I do love braid. But I love 15 pound big game as well. I fished straight braid when I lived in Florida. It’s hard to get out of that habit in the Midwest
  24. See I didn’t care for reel magic. I like it for cleaning stuff though. I always tie off to the fence and walk back and wind the line up tight also lol. Never talked to anyone else that does that lol I have for years and years
  25. Sometimes shortening the inside strands and leaving the outside longer helps. Just cut the ouster strands off that one into a finesse cut.
