nice pike. my PB is 30 inches caught on one of my homeade jointed pike lures. it was on the 4th cast with it, and the next cast i had a huge 5-6lb bass on (which would have probably been my PB) but jumped about 15-20 feet from the boat and threw it. ill post some pics of the pike and lures sometime. (we re-did out computer and the pics got erased(good thing for digital cameras ) aaron

Noise and fishing.
well......one time on Bill Dance he said that 99.9% (or something like that) of the sound bounces off the water, but if you would be underwater, then i would think it would make a difference. aaron

Hand Feathered Hooks
ive thought of doing this, but havent yet. i need to go to a hobby store and get some feathers. just a tip on the pics, if you put the hook in your hand, then you can usually (atleast for me) get it focus really good. aaron

Only for those who have fished in multiple states
i fish in 3 different states, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. i would say Michigan would be my favorite because there are so many lakes to choose from, so if one lake is bad early in the morning, just go to another lake close by. there are also alot of species to choose from. aaron

Do Gar spook away Bass?
im not sure, but one time while pike fishing with bluegill, i got a 16incher, and it had bite marks on each side, which i think was a gar. he have also caught gar there. not sure, but they try and eat bass. aaron

My fishing saying...
PondHopper, i agree with you. i always thought the if the cows were standing up feeding, they would bite better? :-/ so which one is correct? aaron

what do you use to carve your lures?
i use a band-saw. i works good. just trace the side view on, cut that, cut the lip slot, trace the top, cut that and sand. my lures might not be the best, but they work for me. good luck on making them. aaron

plaster paris molds?
ive made a few. the best one i made is a senko one. first you need a pan to pour into. then you fill it half full of plaster and wait until it is thick enough for the bait to be supported from it. you also need to put 2 popsicle sticks in the mold straight up. once that is dry you put vasalene all over it, including the popsicle sticks so you can pop them apart. then you add plaster again over it, tapping the sides to get the bubbles out from it. once it is dry (i usually wait 45 min-1 hr) break the popsicle sticks close to the mold for easier putting the together and apart, then take it out of the pan and carefully take them apart with a screw driver. put Mod Podge on it for about 45 min. of drying and you are ready to pour. hope its descriptive enough. aaron

Teens and Fishing
not only does the "minnow" trap catch fish, it catches crawdads, so we call it a "crawdad" trap. we usually use dead fish, or we have found slim jims works great after you chew them up. aaron

CTS "ultra" ultra-lite

wood crankbaits
nice looking lure! the fish wont be able to tell that from the real thing. i make some pike baits, but i make jointed ones. my first jointed one got my pb pike, and the next cast, it probably would have had my pb LM bass too, but it threw it on the second jump. i am in the process of making a double jointed one, all i need now is to paint and epoxy. i will post it when it is done. aaron

Crankbait bill angle
depends how deep you want it to dive. if you want it dive deep, put it about straight out from the body, and make it long. if you want it to dive shallow, you can either A. make it smaller, but at the same angle, or B. put it at a greater angle down. here are some pics to help describe it. (oh, and i think where the line tie has something to do with it, hopefully someone else will correct me if im wrong.) this one will dive pretty deep http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/nhoman27/100b1110.jpg this one will not dive deep at all http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/nhoman27/100_0716.jpg id love to see some pics when it is done. hope this helps aaron

first worm mold!
i finished my first mold tonight. it was with Plaster of Paris, and will seal it with Mod Podge. it is a 5" 5 worm mold, with 5 Gander Mountain stick baits in it, the reason i used those and not dingers or senkos is because i wasnt sure if it would ruin them. anyway, it has been setting for about 3 hours now, and was wondering if i can try to take it apart. the tutorial in tackleunderground says for 25-45 min, but i wasnt sure if it would crack or something. i might try later tonight, and will post some pics in the morning of it. now all i need is to get some supplies from Del-Mart, like dye, hardener, softener, everything else. i was wondering what all you need for it? thanks alot aaron

What could it have been and how to react
if you have gar in your lake it was probably one of those things. they have a long and VERY hard snout with ALOT of razor sharp teeth. i have been using bluegill before for pike, and sometimes when i get a hit and miss the whole tail is gone from the bluegill. last year my dad got about a 4 foot gar, no pics. if we have this happen to us again i will take a pic of the bluegill. aaron

Lets see some custom sticks.

first fish on my homeade lure!!!
i tried my homade pike lure for about the last 15-20 min. i got my PB pike on about the 3rd or 4th cast, a nice 30incher, we couldnt weigh it because the scale was dead. after a couple pics, and my NEXT cast i had on a HUGE bass, we think it was bigger then the one i got last year out of there, a 22" 5 1/2 pounder, he came up and jumped 2 times, about 20 feet from the boat and looked HUGE, but he threw the lure back at me on the 2nd jump. so i tried to follw up hoping he would somehow bite again on a MegaBait swimbait, but nothing. i think i am going to make a few more like it. my jointed lure has really good action. i think i will make some double jointed lures as well. this is the pike> http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/nhoman27/100_0941.jpg this is it again with the lure> http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/nhoman27/100_0940_03.jpg aaron
