  1. Lord what a story. Thank god it wasn't Timmy's child but at the same time so sad for the family that was affected.
  2. Go heavy to punch through it. Size 4 Flipping hook with a green pumpkin (clear water) or black and blue (if the water is dark) craw. Go to like a 3/4 oz tungsten weight with the weight pegged. Flip into the mats and let the bait fall vertical. You will probably need heavier line (at least 30lb braid). You won't get as many bites but what you catch will be solid fish if not some of the biggest fish in the pond. If that doesn't work then look at throwing parallel on the walls of the vegetation. Spinnerbaits or swim jigs would be good here. Let the bass tell you what they want.
  3. Vegetation is a good thing in most cases. When the sun is high in the sky the fish will hold inside of it. Flipping nation.
  4. I missed my PB last year during the summer. The bass smoked a topwater bait by the edge of a lilly pad field. It was a fight for a solid 3 or 4 minutes (felt like 18-20) and when I finally got him up to the boat I had him turned the wrong way (head down). My father was with me and eased down with the net to attempt to slowly net him and when he got close the bass thrashed again and snapped my line right at the boat. My PB before was right at 5lbs but this one must have been 7 or 8. By far the strongest bass I have ever fought. I felt so dejected for the next half hour and even that evening after I got home. The next day though I said you know, I threw the correct bait to the correct spot at the correct time - making the right decisions. In the long run it gave me better confidence as a fisherman. Keep you head up and keep fishing.
  5. If you live anywhere remotely North in the US man the weather has a lot to do it. Its been such a crazy spring the bass are so unpredictable. Don't worry about it. If you haven't caught a decent bass by July 1, then I'd start to worry.
  6. I have three separate boxes one for traditional cranks, one for lipless, and one for squarebills. I usually put them in rows based on color.
  7. Thank You Jim. Much appreciated.
  8. Combine the two. Throw a swim jig with a paddle tail swimbait as a trailer.
  9. Can someone explain how to turn it off on the Echomap Series.
  10. The weather has been insane this spring here in WV. It's been 80s one day, 40s the next. 65 one night, and 35 the next. It feels the water has been stuck in the 50s for a month now. I went out Friday and caught two little dinks the water is 59 degrees. I went out yesterday it was 60 degrees with 30 mile and hour wind gusts and the water had dropped to 57. The bass have been suspended over the middle for weeks. It's like they came up and attempted to get into prespawn but this bipolar weather has them so confused they just shut down over the middle. I have fished bottom, top, suspended, flats, points, shallow, deep. I have thrown deep diving cranks, shaky heads, jigs, deep diving jerks, shallow jerks, spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, topwater, and drop shots. So far all I have been able to catch is four little dink bass. The good news is that from here on out the 30 day forecast is calling for 70 degrees and up every day. If we can get these nights warmed up hopefully the water will jump up into the mid 60s and that will get the bass moving.
  11. Not only is there a lot of good information but there are also really good caring people here or legit try to help a fellow man out. Not like that everywhere else.
  12. A lot of people on here will probably say the big name sunglasses like Wiley X or Oakley. They are definitely great if you can afford a $150 pair of sunglasses. I wear the $9 Terminator Polarized Sunglasses from Wal-Mart and they do me just fine lol
  13. I have never (knock on wood) forgot to put the drain plug but I have forgotten to plug the live well several times and it just fills up an inch or two in the bottom to the water line on the boat. I know the main drain plug will be a different story though.
  14. I have caught more fish on the regular bang o lure as opposed to the prop. My most successful way is to throw it and let it sit and either barely twitch it enough to break the water's surface (Not make it go under, just dance it on top of the water) or to twitch it and have it dive down and let it float back up. 90% of the strikes seem to come when the bait is just sitting still.
  15. I use my factory prop on my Triton. Sorry man.
  16. I put my plug in before launching and pull it immediately after trailering. I also keep my boat covered at all times and i crank up the front of the trailer so if it rains and water gets in it will immediately run out.
  17. I don't have much experience fishing this rig but it would appear to me to be designed more for a hard or clay bottom than a grassy/soft bottom. I'm talking areas where the bottom of covered with heavy hydrilla.
  18. In West Virginia, the record largemouth is 12.28lbs from a farm pond in Grant Co, and the record smallmouth is 9.75lbs from the south branch of the Potomac River.
  19. Proud of you guys representing our state and our flagship school so well. Now go win the whole darn thing in July and make HISTORY.
  20. I did not know that the greenish color meant bass were high in the water column.
  21. No problem. I really like the unit so far. I'm still learning how to use it.
  22. Good tip. I like to display the water depth and water temp as the two are the easiest to see.
  23. I'll be sure to adjust the gain as soon as I get to the water next time. Thanks J I appreciate the help.
  24. I always use premium (or highest available octane) gas and seafoam in my Mercury 2-Stroke and it runs great.
  25. Great Job Guys!!! Let's Goo Mountaineers!
