What is your favorite floating worm or stick bait?
I'm making a switch with my shaky head and various other floating application baits and I'm curious to see what people are using and why. Durability and action are the biggest factors to me, just like most of you I'm sure so let's see what you all think. Thanks in advance guys.

Rooster tail, caught cats, carp, pan fish, pike, sm, lm, stripers, walleye.

Backing on Braid?
I used the holes on my reel, and electrical tape after there was six turns of the handle of braid on the reel. I use it primarily to catch 15 to 25 lb king salmon with no issues. You should be fine with a bass.

Lightest flouro you'd trust for 5/0 hook sets
Whats the lightest lb of flouro you'd trust for hooksets on texas rigged 5/0 gamagatsu hooks? I was thinking about 10 but that kinda scares me a bit so I might go to 12lb

Swivel or no swivel ?
I only ever use a swivel with lures like rooster tail in line spinners, that's mainly because of line twist. I feel like the swivel at times messes up the bait retreive so I don't use them for quick change outs. Not entire sure how true my gut feeling is, but that's what I do none the less.

Schooled by a Red Crankbait...
Last year I had a day with clear skys, clear water. Threw natural colors in the morning and had a great bite. Water was in the 70s somewhere I don't remember exactly. The bite died so I tested out my buddies new rod he had, put on a white twister tail grub, 1/8th oz jighead and just wanted to see how well it cast, sensitive the rod was. 4 fish on 4 casts, and ended uonwith roughly 11 lm and 1 sm in two hours if memory serves correct. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be good.

Seaguar Tatsu-what have I done??
Like you I always wrote Flouro off for the same reasons, but I never actually used it. I just witnessed the problems regularly with other anglers I was fishing with. This year I broke down, bought another core 51mg7 and some Tatsu, I haven't had a chance to try it yet. My primary fishing ground for bass doesn't open until May 7th this year but I did do some minor testing in the yard and I haven't seen any issues with it that I've seen in the past, it didn't come off in circular ropes, like I've seen in the past. I also had no issue tying, or clinching the knot either. I hope, oh do I hope that this works out for me. 10lb Tatsu for me.

Thoughts on Casting Rigs vs Spinning
I started my fishing career if you will using nothing but spinning setups and completely not understanding the point of having to deal with the frustration of backlashes and learning how to do it. Then a buddy of mine taught me how to use a baitcaster on a dead day of fishing where we didn't get a hit. I was spoiled, my first attempt learning how to use a baitcaster was with a Shimano Core which still to this day is my favorite caster, I actually just picked up another 51mg7 two days ago. Even with what is considered by many one of the best and easiest to use reels of all time it was still difficult to learn. Nearly ten years later, I have one spinning rig. That's all I need, for ultra light stuff. I use baitcasters for nearly everything else. It may just be me, but I feel much more control over the fish with a baitcaster, I feel like I have a much better handle on the rod which is important for fishing for things like Salmon because if they hit it at an angle hard enough they can pull the pole out of your hand and the last time you see it is sinking 30 feet from the boat. I also feel like you have a much better sense of line vibration on those tiny mush hits you can get on random days that make the difference between catching 5 and being skunked. Over all I am happy I learned how, and made the switch for the most part. I also don't recommend anyone trying to learn on a low end reel, I'd borrow a buddy's and offer to re-line it for him and practice in the yard before I'd want to learn on a blackmax to see if you like it, because to be fair you're not giving baitcasting a fair chance IMO at least.

rod length suggestions
This is entirely personal preference. I fish from shore, also from a boat and my sweet spot is between 6'8" and 7'2". My main fishing partner fishings from both as well and fishes mainly rods over 7'5". His favorite being a 7'11" Kistler rod. It's all about what you feel comfortable with. I prefer shorter rods especially for bank fishing because I'll hike through the woods and be surrounded by brush and it makes it much easier to cast.

Do you guys seal the cork on new rods?
Nope, nothing. I don't mind the weathered look or feel of the cork and I've usually upgraded long before pitting starts. I usually keep at most five rods and reels, I don't personally need anything more than that. So every couple of year or two I'll upgrade a rod, then a reel etc.

Best 5 lures for small mouth May-August
Inline spinners, worms, craws, grubs, spinnerbaits. I fish light colors in spinners, and spinnerbaits. White on white, white charteuse, golden shiner colors. Pink worms, purple worms with flecks, pb and j, motor oil colors. White grubs, craws depend on the craw color in the lake, river, or pond. Personally for me I've got grayish and blue clawed craws in my river.

Understanding Lake Map
Another area to look at early in the year is the top area of the map where it goes from shallow into a steep drop off to the 15 foot marker. Fish may be deep there during cold water and it might be a nice area earlier in the year to drop shakey heads down
