Being Versatile from the bank
You fish and run at the same time? Do you have a secret way to troll a crankbait from shore? Seriously, can't agree more about the backpack it's life changing. But, if you're going on a short trip and don't want to take everything. Get an Altoids tin, and throw a few hooks, a jig and a couple soft plastics in it and you're good to go.

Gambler Cane Toad. I tried it late last year, and loved it. Can't wait to use it more this summer.

Painting a reel
I painted one of my reels, it was a LOT harder than I anticipated. The finish product was garbage, but if I were to do it again I think I could pull off a decent end result. I would do a couple things differently 1. I would use automotive grade paint/clear coat (rattle can paint might be okay for your application) 2. I would have taken better care of taking it apart/putting it back together, since it didn't work properly after I put it all back together. But, it was an old $50 reel from DSG so I wasn't too sad over messing it up.

Flexible wood sealant?
Hey Jason, I have a couple of those wooden snakes to be made into lures. I can't think of any sealer either. The only idea I have is dip the whole thing into thin polyurethane and try to work the cloth back into a flexible substance after it has cured. I don't know how well that would work, but it's something.

Vacation to Florida
Honestly, I don't know if there's a bad spot in the state. When I used to live there a buddy of mine took us "ditch fishing" where you literally drive around dirt roads looking for standing water on the side of the road, to fish for bluegill. We had a "bad day", but still caught like 30 fish. Scope out some good spots, but you should have a good time no matter what.

How many times have you lost a brand new lure first cast?
50lb. braid with a short 25lb. mono leader. "Almost every time I use it" is an over-exaggeration, it's more like the worst time possible.

All-time best "Gimmick" lures
In itself nothing, it's the hyped up T.V. commercials that has turned it into a "gimmick". But, for a truly amazing set-up, you guys should try a Helicopter Lure, being trolled by an SOB, tied on a Pocket fishermen.

Frog colors
Two maybe three for hollow bodies... 1.Black: muddy water/low light. This is what I throw more times than not 2.White: clear water/or when baitfish are specifically on the menu. 3. Yellow: for the times in-between. For buzzfrogs pretty much the same thing, but since it's moving across the water so fast I don't think it matters all that much. I usually just use colors that I like. You'll be hard pressed to find one that doesn't work.

Carrot Stix....reels?
I love their rods, but reels? The casting will come in left and right hand retrieves, looks like it only comes in 6.3:1, it comes with two interchangeable handles, and weighs 7.2 to 7.6 ounces. They have two models one with 6 bearings ($149) and one with 11 bearings ($249), so it's actually a fairly expensive reel. They are going to have a spinning reel also, that will some how be able to switch reel speeds from 4.7:1 to 6.7:1 We'll see, but it will be hard for me to switch from Daiwa to Carrot Stix when it comes to reels. Especially considering the price.

whats the best baitcaster under $100?
Check out the Lew's American Hero line. My brother got two for Christmas, and for $60 it would hard to beat for a "cheap" reel.

Rod/Reel Covers
I recently bought an all aluminum Jon boat to get out of a kayak. Which is great, but the aluminum is starting to scratch my rods and reels, which is an outrage. So my questions are... 1. Are they a bigger hassle than they are worth? 2. What are the best options, especially for reels?

I cast off my Spro Rat almost every time I use it, luckily it floats.

I Think I Won
I got one of those rods on clearance a while back (NOT FOR $5!) I wish I would have gotten the squarebill rod. Those should make really nice cranking rods. Nice find!
