  1. i fished friday at the nybass get together on lake mahopac with a guy who used rogue rods with the recoil guides.he let me try one.now that's a nice rod.the rod also had a woven carbon fiber grip instead of a cork handle.if i was going to a real upper end rod the rogue would be my choice.
  2. I have fished glx rods and johnny morris signature series.they now make the elite series with recoil guides.besides the price i can tell no difference.the question then becomes is the loomis warranty worth the extra $.from what i have heard if you go to a bass pro and return a broken rod they give you a new one no hassle.you make the choice.
  3. the president weighs 8.9 the supreme weighs 8.0 and the summit weighs 7.8.they all have 6 pin brakes not 4.it is nice to have the double system.
  4. they are all fine reels.if money was no object i'd get the summit.but the supreme is great also.i'd only get the summit because it's the smallest and lightest of the three.
  5. CHICKENBONE with a largie johnny windsor and 2 smallies topwater don and friend
  6. this friday was the nybass mahopac get together.what a great day with a bunch of members attending for a friendly day of fishing.the water temps were between 53 and 57 degrees in the lake.lake mahopac was once known as a great southern ny largemouth lake.then the homeowners association put in 3 times as many grass carp as a biologist said to and they ate every last remaining weed in sight.the smallmouth thrived but the largies suffered and are only now coming back.it did turn into one of the best smallmouth fisheries in ny state and was even written up in bassmaster magazine. today the fishing was hard but everybody caught fish and had a great time.11 members stayed and had pizza and beer across the street from the marina.some members of outcast bass club had to make way to conneticut for a tourney on bantam lake the next day.her's a few from the day. dennis tubeking gregg pete l kenny c mike CHICKENBONE and joe with a double DODGEGUY with a smallie
  7. ROFLMAO!!! ;D ;D ;Di do the same as r.w..
  8. only if you actually get spooled.
  9. not suggested?why not?as a matter of fact when you have holes in the spool it's a great idea to keep moisture and garbage out of the reel.
  10. i just tie a regular knot around the spool and then wrap a strip of electrical tape around as backing until i feel i've taken up enough space.
  11. that's a no brainer.get the bionic blade.
  12. if you are going to use flourocarbon get the 40 size.the bigger spool will give you less issues with flouro lines.
  13. Dodgeguy, Were you using a fluorocarbon leader with the sufix braid, or were you tying direct? Roger DIRECT.I HATE LEADERS. ;D
  14. do a search and read all the articles on setting up a baitcaster.it takes practice and time to get good. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1151590913
  15. it depends on your height and what you are comfortable with.i'm 6-1 and fish out of a rowboat a lot.i pitch instead of flip so being in a rowboat i prefer a 6-10 pitching stick.use a 7 footer if it fits you better.
  16. raul is %100 correct on that one!!! :o
  17. i love bps rods.i say put it on a johnny morris signature series.
  18. i'm going flouro on that rod also.flouro is supposed to be highly abrasion resistant so cranking over rocks it should be a plus.
  19. Dodgeguy, That's a huge statistic. Even if there is some imbalance in the records or fishing, the number alone says something. I'm surprised because you have been a big supporter of braid.... thanks for the honesty! What are you trying to do to me dodge? You just got me converted over to sufix braid, now your pushing something else..well I ought to.... I do like the sufix braid much better than the power pro, hands down. The sufix elite... well it has more line memory than I had hoped for but, it is strong. sufix is still imho the best braid made.you still can't beat braid in heavy vegatation.
  20. i always keep a log.last year i caught 1/2 as many fish on braid as i did the year before when i used cajun red cast.is this because of the line or other conditions?i don't know.so i decided to go low vis again and see if my catch rate goes up.i decided to try flouro again and went with seguar because it's the only flouro i never heard anything bad about.
  21. the faster you land and release the fish the better it's chances of survival.this is a fact.that way they have less lactic acid buildup in their bodies which can kill them.so yes it is sporting to use braided or heavier lines.
  22. I WAS DEAD WRONG ABOUT FLOUROCARBON LINE!!!i spooled seguar invizx on my rods and took them out for a spin today.this line was everything they say it is in terms of manageabilty.it is light years ahead of any other flouro i tried so far.it does feel more sensitve than mono but no where near as sensitive as braid.the one thing i don't like is the price.it's approx $12 a reel to spool up.now if it lasts and catches me more fish over the year then i will be hooked.
  23. i think the red attracts shalow fish.imho cajun red cast is the best mono made.if i wasn't trying flouro again this year i'd be using cajun red cast.
  24. older abu round reels only had 2 brake pins.they did come with a heavier set of weights to adjust them.
