  1. I have caught a few weird fish but I hooked a carp yesterday that I have not ever seen before. I was fishing a LC Slender Pointer near the bank when I saw a quick flash near the top of the water. An 8lb carp had just took a snap at a jerk bait and I hooked him. I have never caught a carp on a jerkbait. When I reeled this thing in, I thought it was a common grass carp but this fish had a large single mandible tooth like a salt water trigger fish. Needless to say my LC lure had a junk taken out of it and I had a tough time getting the hooks out. I did a little research online and found nothing. Have you guys seen a carp like this?
  2. I used the Chatterbait alot last year but not much this year. Like most people I was excited when this bait became available and bought a couple. After fishing them, I found it was not all it was cracked up to be. I did catch fish with it but not any thing special or different from either a regular crankbait or spinner bait. Maybe when things feel slow and I am in the mood for something different I will tie one back on but until then I am going to stick with my old favorites.
  3. The Sammy in American Shad was the first LC lure I purchased. I was an LC addict after that. For topwater fishing, I have yet to find its equal. It is just a fun lure to fish regardless of the $15 price tag.

I have not had much with crankbaits lately but most of the creature type baits (lizards, grubs, and GYCB Kreatures) and senkos have been great for me the past couple of weeks. They have been hitting on pumpkin colors with black flake.
  5. I'd go for a G. Loomis BCR803 GLX. Sweet
  6. My favorite is my G. Loomis BCR803 GLX. It sort feels like a magic wand. Just a great rod.
  7. I love Gore-Tex stuff. I was not convinced that this stuff worked but after years of abuse on several different products (shoes, coats, rain gear, gloves, etc.) I'm a believer. It will keep you dry and it will keep the cold wind from getting in. IMHO, if it keeps the cold wind from getting in, it will keep you warmer but as stated it has no heat retaining properties. It is stowable. I have a rain suit in my glove box that I keep in the small bags they came in. Is it worth the money?> That's up to the user. In my opinion, I would not buy it unless it was on sale. It adds a couple of bucks to the bottomline of most products. One more thing, I will always buy Gore-Tex products instead of ones that claim to be waterproof, especially shoes. Often waterproof means waterwicking and not watersealed, so read the tags that come with it carefully. Here is a link to their website. http://www.gore-tex.com/remote/Satellite/home Here is a shoe comparison that I had the experience of dealing with. One is "waterproof" (my feet got wet) and one with Gore-Tex that kept my feet dry even when I was standing in some mud puddles for hours. http://www.merrellboot.com/Product/NZGP/Mens-Active-Footwear/Winter/Mens/Radius-Mid-Waterproof.aspx?IgnorePDO=1 http://www.merrellboot.com/Product/NZSZZZZ/Mens-Active-Footwear/Hiking/21285/Mens/Sandstone/J86813/Chameleon-Wrap-Gore-Tex-XCR.aspx
  8. I'd save your money. I have seen the Truimphs as low as $40. I had one for about a month. I thougth it was OK. But once I put up against some all day fishing, this rod should have been called the Hoover .
  9. As RW mentioned above, if you have a Dick's Sporting Goods close to you stop by and see what they have left. When I picked mine up their I got it for $65. It was $99 on clearance, then they had 25% off all clearance, and I was given a $10 off any $50 purchase coupon when I entered the store. I don't know when but about this time last year they had all their clearance fishing stuff an addtional 50% off. I picked up two Shimano Curado 201 BSF's for $40ea and a Shimano Calcutta 251 for $30. Hopefully they will do it again this year.
  10. Sweet...... I think you have your own personal Bait Monkey. ;D
  11. I have been using a 7' M BPS Johnny Morris Sig. Series rod for cranks. It has more of a moderate action and a soft tip. It can cast a 3/8 oz crank a country mile. It is not as sensitive as I would like but is a nice rod all the same.
  12. I have had a great experience with the BPS stores but not with their online store or catalog. It takes forever to get an order and their customer service seems clueless. I have been ordering from Tackle Warehouse as of late.
  13. I like P-Line Floroclear 15lb or Berkley's new Flourocarbon 15lb for crankbait fishing.
  14. Save your money and get the Curado.
  15. I have a 100SHLA and it is a workhorse of a reel. I have yet to find a challenge that this reel can't handle. I would highly recommend it.

Fishing is a hobby/sport. It can be expensive or cheap. It is simply what you make of it.
  17. I purchased an All Star Rod last year. I broke the rod before I got the bag. Go figure. It took six months to get it. Nice bag though.
  18. I think the Colts can take them down. No one gives them a chance when they play the Patriots. Can't wait to watch this one. Colts win 35 to 24. (Just a guess). ;D
  19. It's just a bear. I don't get how people could believe it would be anything else.
  20. Rod: St. Croix Avid 6' ML Reel: Shimano Stradic 1000 Enjoy
  21. WOW.... Very nice reel. I'd hold on to it and keep it in working condition. I would fish it on occasion but keep it simple. Maybe you could pass it on to someone else when the time comes.
  22. I have the MBR 783GLX and I use it as my all purpose rod. I would highly recommed it. As far as getting a two piece rod goes, in theory you loose some sensitivety but with it being a GLX rod that may not be the case. I would only buy a two piece rod if I had to.
  23. I saw this stuff at Gander Mountain. I guess it is for real. I thought it was a joke at first but it works.
  24. I feel sorry for the Redskins. WOW what a hammering they took. I do believe that the Pats ran up the score. Why? I have no idea. Things like that sometimes comeback to haunt you. The Pats had better chance of getting a quality player hurt more than the Redskins had a chance of making a game out of it. Can't wait till Sunday. It's like a Super Bowl atmosphere here in Indy. Go Colts........
