  1. I like Tru-tungsten 1/8oz or 3/16oz in black but for deep water or for flipping the tru-tungsten flipping weights 3/8oz black is killer.
  2. My favorite is the Moonsault SSR in Ghost Minnow.
  3. I would also recommend the ScanDisk Extreme III or IV media cards. They are built to handle high heat. A couple of other things you might look at are an extra battery, a good case (Lowepro is my favorite) and an adapter for a lens filter to protect the lens.
  4. The above post mentions the Canon S3. It is an awesome little camera, probably the best bang for the buck. If you want to wait a little the S5 will be coming out. Here is a couple of links for the specs and examples on both. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0705/07050703canons5is.asp#specs http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_s3is.asp
  5. There are a lot of well made rods out there but IMHO, nothing compares to a G. Loomis. I would look at what is available in the price range you want and I'm sure you will find a rod to fit your needs. If I had to pick, I would look at the St.Croix Avid or the BPS Johnny Morris Sig. Series.
  6. This year I have liked the Booyah Counter Strike Buzzbait in the Luna Color.
  7. As always, well done. :D Thanks ReelMech.
  8. I too had the same problem with an older 201 bsf curado and I was using mono on it at the time. A friend of mine showed me a simple thing that fixed the problem. He backed the drag and the casting control knob off all the way, set a couple of extra breaks, put on a heavy Rattle Trap and casted it out. On the retrieve I could feel something loosen up in the reel. When I got the lure back in, I set the reel up as I normally would and it was now fixed, no more drag issue. The reel had somehow gotten into a bind and need to have some pressure taken off. This all could be a coincidence but it worked.
  9. My personal favorite at that price is the Zillion. I have fished the Chronarchs and they are great reels but the Zillion is just better in my opinion. I'll give it a season or two before I am totally 100% convinced.
  10. Go to go with soft plastic and jigs.
  11. My wife got me a set last year at Sam's club for about $35. I had been using a North Face Gortex set but the I hate to say but I out grew them. I am not sure of the name brand but they still carry them. For $35 they are incredible. They're not too heavy or hot and they keep you bone dry.
  12. My current favorite is the Booyah Counter Strike in the Luna color. I don't have a particular reason as to why I like this one so much. I just seem to catch more fish with it. I guess it is has to do with confidence.
  13. In a couple of weeks I will be fishing my first big two day tournament and just I was looking for any advice on equipment, lures, etc. I have fished a few small one day tournaments but this is my first serious big dollar one. I will be out on the water from sun up to probably 7:00pm both days. I will be bringing 4 baitcasting reels and 2 spinning reels. Any advice is welcome. Thanks again for your opinions.
  14. I think I have tried about all that P-Line has to offer and I have to agree with a previous post on the 12lb Evolution. That stuff breaks easily. I had a small kink the line and broke on the next cast. I have tried it on 3 different reels, all with the same result. I will be switching back to the Floroclear, which I have never had a problem with.
  15. Go to the home page and there is a button for a bunch of old reels most of them from Pflueger and Shakespeare. Here is a link for some photos. http://www.orcaonline.org/shakes_archives.htm
  16. I have been using them for a couple of months and have had great success with them. I use a lot of Senkos and for some reason with the Skip Gap hook they tend to last longer, maybe it allowes the bait to have less damage at the tip causing less ripping. Just a side note, I saw them at Dick's on clearance. I hope this doesn't mean they are going to discontinued.
  17. I found this website and thought I would share. Just thought it was cool. http://www.orcaonline.org/reel_history.htm
  18. I have an older 201 SF. I have fished the newer 201 a couple of times and I like my older one better. After fishing the new one all day, it was to big and bulky and did not seem to perform any better. The one thing I did notice was that the new one felt somewhat smoother but I just like the feel of my older Curado better. If you like the old Curado, this new Castic seems to look exactly like it.
  19. I like to use spinner baits. My favorite is a 3/8 Boohay White/Chartreuse.
  20. Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG's are my favorite.
  21. I like 1/4oz or 3/8oz Booyahs and Zoom Chunks.
  22. I hit them last week for 22 packs of GYCB. I went with a spend $50 get $10 off coupon and was given another on the way into the store. I went back with a another coupon that was for 20% any fishing item and used it with my $50 get $10 off. When I checked out the cashier took the $10 off then took another 20% off everything. I questioned it and he said that scanning the coupon did it, not him. I am set for the year, maybe.
  23. You might take a look at the Shimano Sustain 2500 and my other favorite is the Quantum Energy PTi-a 20.
  24. Rush Van Halen Metalllica ACDC Pink Floyd
