  1. Jerkbaits, crankbaits, and paddle tail swimbaits as of right now. If they're shallow and the wind will allow it, a topwater walk the dog lure. Then if they're on structure, jigs and flipping baits.
  2. I don't tie the Palomar anymore. I've been using the San Diego Jam knot with no issues.
  3. @softwateronly I kinda move a white football jig faster than anything else. I use pearl/off white or translucent trailers. It seems to work from time to time but its definitely not my go to. For the pink/morning dawn, you would think clear water would be best but when I fish pink stuff I am usually throwing it in slightly stained, but not muddy, water. I plan on fishing them just like any other football jig. I'll throw them around stumps and laydowns, I'll drag it on bottom, slow roll it on rocks, and I'll probably bounce it off the bottom in deeper water.
  4. Last year I got killed in a tournament by a guy fishing a pink jig with a pale blue craw trailer. So I reached out to California Reservoir Lures and asked if they could make me somethingl like it in morning dawn. Below is what they came up with. It goes beyond my expectations. The pictures don't do it justice. The colors also shift depending on the light. It should be killer. Anyone else fish a pink jig? What do you guys think?
  5. Hayabusa D Striker Swim Weedless 1/8oz 1/0 hook.
  6. My thoughts..... Line > Braid to leader. The braid will help with distance and leader will help with bringing fish in without bending out the hooks. With that said, I prefer 6lb FC. Longer rod > 6' and under lends itself to small creek fishing. Having a whippy tip helps. Some good tips on casting and rods. Lure choice > find lures that are easy to cast, like trout lures (always upgrade your hooks). Always use the wind to your advantage. Good luck 👍. Also, like others stated, a quality reel helps. I am unfamiliar with the OP reel but it may be decent. Understand that casting 50 feet on anything less than 1/8oz lure isn't bad. Its just the nature of BFS.
  7. I have the 803C GLX and to me it's too fast to be a jerkbait rod. It works great for worms and smaller jigs but I really like it for the Dark Sleeper. Also, I have the St. Croix 6'8 M Fast Legend Elite. This rod isn't bad for 3/8oz jerkbaits like the 110 jr but it feels under powered for the regular version and it might be slightly too fast for both. I can't imagine using an St. Croix X-fast rod for jerkbaits. For the price though, I would jump on it but not as a jerkbait rod.
  8. My disclaimer. It took me a minute (like two years or longer) to come to the conclusion I'm about say. "An EWG hook is causing anglers to loose fish" is a complete myth. Here is my reasing..... I would also state that there are too many factors to figure in, like rod power, line choice, how hard you set the hook, etc., to make a complete and bullet proof answer to this. So, for me, I have lost more fish on the two hooks on the left than anything else. They are my main two flipping hooks. One is an Owner flipping hook and the other is a Trokar flipping hook. The two on the right are my main two worm hooks, Owner offset wide gap and a Ryugi Infini EWG. I believe these are all size 4/0. The discussion on this always surrounds the size of the gap between the hook point and the eye. The gap is of course smaller on an EWG. I don't really loose fish on EWGs though so I really don't get the argument but I do understand the thought process. To make my point as to why it took me a few years to let go of the idea that EWGs are bad for hook ups and at loosing fish, see the small hook at the top in the pic below. Its a Ryugi Hobbit size #2 and to this day I have never lost a fish on it, dink to 5lb'ers. I started using it about 2 years ago with BFS soft plastic. The whole hook will fit inside the gap of a 4/0 flipping hook or EWG. So if the argument is based solely on the size of gap, that little EWG Hobbit totally changed my perspective on it.
  9. I can't believe this is real. I have actually had the chocolate bar and its pretty good but evidently no one in Japan has seen Caddyshack. Just found it hilarious.
  10. I picked up a P5 Mark 56 a few weeks ago and it has been out a few times but no fish until today and I also haven’t had a chance to get a picture. I wanted to sort of break it in first so I could share a few thoughts. This big girl did just that. This is another Megabass P5 rod that doesn't disappoint. The power and control are amazing. The sensitivity is ok but not a major factor with this type of rod. It loads big baits well on the cast but still feels light in hand. It paired perfectly with a Steez AII. The above fish didn't stand a chance.
  11. Got this one a Raid Osakana Slide. It totally crushed it. I thought my arm was going to come off. I would guess between 6 and 7lbs.
  12. I now have 4 Curados of sorts (2 BFS, 1 DC, and 1 150 K) and my fishing buddy has 2 Ks. None grind and all are smooth. I haven't seen anything really geary from Shimano in awhile.
  13. It took about two weeks for USPS to deliver my new P5 110 Special but man, what a nice rod. When I first saw it on a rack at a local store, I wasn't really impressed. I thought the tip was weird, it felt stiff at the bottom and the handle was kinda short. Well, I was wrong. This thing is a blast to fish. I was able to take it out, fish a 110 and a Karashi 80 on it and caught 10 little ones. For a 110, its perfect and for a Karashi 80, its pretty good but I'm still trying to figure out the right action for this bait. Its different from the regular Karashi. I moved the MG-ti to it. It can bomb cast a 110 and its pretty decent casting into the wind (I was kind of surprised).
  14. @RRocket Yep. There are other baits like it but the Dolive Beaver seems to be the one they like on my lakes the most. I'm just not sure what the magic appeal is.
  15. I have a few elastomer baits but I am slowly getting rid of them with no plans to resupply for the same reasons mentioned above. I prefer to go with no salt versoins of baits like the Deps Bull Flat. Some baits are just special on a free rig, like the 4in OSP DoLive Beaver. I don't know what it does but it gets bit more than any other free rig bait.
  16. I bought one for a buddy of mine. It might have been the previous version but it works great. Not sure on braid though.
  17. Bassday Mononofu 50s Evergreen PC-5 Megabass Karashi Shimano Tiny Macbeth Megabass BFS Griffon Megabass X-Nanahan Duo Realis Rozante Shad 63MR Mebagass Baby Pop-X OSP Tiny Blitz Imakatsu Gekiasa - If you can find one. It's 1/4oz. Might not be exactly BFS but close enough for me.
  18. I heard that the price hike was coming last year but didn't imagine it would be this much. My buddy in Japan said the same pack of jig heads I like are $4.25 there and from Tackle Warehouse they are now $12.
  19. I would go either the 873C or the 904C NRX+. Both great rods. I like the 873C for the free rig, jigs, and topwater. I use the same stuff on 904c but just slightly heavier baits.
  20. I have the Mg Ti and so far so good. I've tried it for BFS stuff but plan on moving it to a jerkbait rod in the future. We will see how it handles a 1/2oz 110 for the rest of year. Next to a frog reel, my jerkbait bait setups get the most abuse. If my experience goes down hill, I will let you guys know. But again, this reel feels nothing like any KastKing reel I have used in the past.
  21. I would say a jig. Years ago, I just kept seeing a few select guys killing it on a jig. I would fish one and basically put myself on the struggle bus. I would get hung up, I would miss fish, casting and presenting the bait was an issue, knowing when a fish would pick it up and just overall line, color and trailer selection was a mystery to me. Then one day a guy I knew said a jig bite is basically the opposite of a strike. I was kind of clueless as to what he meant at first but once I figured out what bottom structure felt like, a bite became the a total lack of that feeling. Like there was nothing on the end of line. After that, the fish started coming in more easily and I started to gain confidence in the bait and the technique.
  22. Fished the Karashi 80 over the weekend. I didn't catch anything on it but it reminded me of fishing a jerkbait. I wouldn't call it light at all. Any 7.x:1 reel will work. I'd go a JDM Zillion or Metanium.
  23. My opinion is kind of brief and one sided. I know of a few guys that have it and I was able to toss one around for little bit. It was ok but it didn't live up to expectations I had put on it. It felt soft and kind of underpowered for the way I would fish a jig. A Texas rig wouldn't be an issue. On the other hand, some guys like jig rods this way and are quite successful with them. Also, it was sensitive but again, I was hoping for more. With that said, it felt light, balanced and could cast a jig well but it felt way different than my NRX+ 894c. So much so that it might have skewed my opinion which is why I was interested in hearing what you thought. I like pretty much all the P5 rods. I'm just not sure about this one but I am not totally against owning one at some point.
  24. I got my two but haven't tried them yet. I took the regular version out yesterday in Kasumi Ito and Ayu. Tossed it around on BFS gear and caught 17 at a local pond. Nothing special but it was fun.
