i was going to be ‘old n ugly’ but it was already taken. sometimes you just can’t win.

most of the time i fish a smaller lake near the house, from a jon boat. aside from the spawn, i’m mostly offshore for much of the season. many of the guy’s i meet on the water think of me as “that crappie guy” (pun intended), and that’s just fine with me.

i loved that show where you threw Jerry Reed’s giant bass back in the lake when he wasn’t looking. but those catfish chunks you used to hawk were worthless. i tried to feed them to my cousin’s dog, but all he wanted to do was wall’er in them.

fwiw, be cautious of the used motor ‘with a little work done on it’ part. i got burned about 10 years ago by a little old man with a jon boat who only fished on the weekends. it could end up costing you more than the boat is worth in the long run. good luck brother.

as a Marine Corps veteran, the boot camp scene with R Lee Ermey as the Sr. DI most resembles my experience in the 70’s. i can’t speak for the Viet Nam scenes though.

last winter i made some artificial “trees” out of pvc pipe and sank them in pairs (which made fishing them in deeper water an ordeal at times) i should have created one large brush pile, but i will add to each of them this winter with real trees. i should have known better.

only caught 5 this afternoon ahead of the cold front that’s coming through tonight. this 18” spot hit a drop shot in 20 fow.

i caught 8 spots Friday afternoon and 7 more yesterday morning. 2 were on a lipless (RES) and the rest were on Zoom Shakey Tail worms. swts here are in the mid 50’s and all the fish we’re caught in 15-20 fow. i’m having to scout them out some but finding enough of them i suppose. no big fish though, just the standard 1 to 1 1/2 lb class spotties. looking to go again tomorrow afternoon and then again on Friday. fingers crossed ?

i lost one in some brush yesterday afternoon. it was my last 1/2 oz Tennessee Shad. i had just caught two spots out of a school while stroking it up off the bottom in 20+ fow.
