Good choice. If it's anything like the older IMX/GLX and new GLX rods, it's going to feel lighter in power then it actually is. Just throw some 12-14lb line on it and fish it for a bit.

I agree with that, I don't see that logo and think "Senko". Because of the packaging, I associate GYCB as "green" so the blue "BAITS" throws me as well. "GYCB" sounds like a 90's NYC rap group, so it's always going to be a better name

I also have a peddle yak and keep both a full paddle and a hand paddle on the boat with me. The full paddle I use for launching/landing and when moving through thick sav that will jam my prop. It's also good as a push-pole when I forget to watch the tides and get stuck shallow. I have a cheaper Al one for this reason. The hand paddle I don't use very much anymore, I did use it for launch/landing but it's a lot more annoying then just dealing with the full sized one strapped to the hull the entire trip. I don't even think I could move the yak effectively with just it so I might ditch it this season and see if I miss it.

I will second the mbr783c at whatever price point you can swing. The 3-power mbr rods are outstanding and are as close to do-all as you can find.

I was supposed to fly out of BWI on Monday, first at 8:50am, then 1:10pm, then 9:45pm, all canceled. My BIN is a pilot who lives in Richmond and flies out of BWI, my sister told me it took him 10h to make the drive Monday.

I don't follow pro fishing at all, so it doesn't influence my purchases in the least. However, if some random guy online is showing off a new rod he had to travel to Japan, hike up to a mountain cave, and buy from the hermit living in it, now that will get my ears pricked up.

In the sober light of dawn I realized that my wife had a ton of yarn laying around and that would make a better chenille substitute then pipe cleaners do, so I give it a go: Getting the hackle correct is going to take some time and my whip-finish is highly suspect, but I think I am getting the gist of it. I am going to order some components later today and see what kind of trouble I can get into.

I’ve been watching his videos the last day or two and I think I’ve more or less figured it out. I have some hackle that I bought years ago and I’ve been making some practice jigs using pipe cleaners instead of chenille. Once I make a few that are not outright embarrassing I’ll post pictures.

Yea, I was thinking that and some living rubber for the “tails”. Right now I am just using up open parks of skirting that I will not be reordering. My immediate goal is to figure out how replicate these little jigs: I bought them years ago but cant remember from where. They are great for the tiny flows around here and I am running out!

I made up up my 2022-23 supply of 1/2oz jigs this past week: 4 of the top two colors and 8 of the bottom. I don't think there will be much difference between the first two, but I had some odd tabs I wanted to use up. The bottom is my all-purpose Maryland craw imitator, used with either a Rootbeer w/ Green Flake or Falcon Lake Craw trailer it comes really close to a lof of the craws we have here. At some point I will tye up a more Green Pumpkin/Blue pattern to use with a sapphire blue trailer, which will cover the rest of the local craws. Once I got all the skirting stuff out I started to go through all my odds-n-ends jigheads and tying skirts onto them: I want to get into tying with thread rather then wire so I am trying to train my hands to work with smaller heads while I get a tying supply order together.

I’ve got hairjig fever this winter! I spent an afternoon fishing a dinky little creek for dinky little bass and had a grand old time of it. I used to do a lot of tiny water fishing and want to get back into it. I am looking at short little ajing rods and am clearing space on the bench for a vice.

This is how I fish a DS rig. I fish a lot of smaller ponds with muck bottoms and a DS lets me present a plastic right off the bottom with less fuss then a T or C rig. I use 7lb Sniper for line and for hooks I use either Gamakatsu G-Finesse DS hooks or Gamakatsu Finesse Heavy Cover/Owner Cover Shot hooks. The former for nose hooking and the latter two for t-rigging. I fish both with a slow steady retrieve, keeping the weight on the bottom. I only stop and work the bait when the weight bumps into something.

Thanks for posting this, I’m 50/50 at remembering about the show on my own. I am embarking on a hairjig frenzy and this should be a good show for that.

Very nice! What are you going to do with the Kasumi Six Eleven? I have been on a popper kick of late and have been looking at the PopX Stick but I don't have any exp with an MB "slow" taper rod and don't know what to expect.

I use them both. The Mono Spin is a really tiny jig, I use it with L/UL spinning tackle and 6lb Supernatural mono. For trailers I use tiny crappie plastics, mostly grubs and paddletails. The Guard Spins are a little bigger and have a thicket guard, so I use more powerful L/UL BFS tackle and 7lb Sniper. For trailers I use smaller craws, just picked up some Reins Ring Craws to try out with them.

You have to find a balance, but I would lean more towards something you like. Working will take up most of you waking hours so if you are miserable that entire time it's going to poison everything else in your life.

Oh man, I’ve yet to cross that particular Rubicon, I just sort of casually lounge in the back with the hatch open when I want a cigar.

I am amazed those things are not marketed towards camping/outdoors use. They are super useful and so easy to transport. This is about where I am at. The filth on my side windows helps hide my rods and I am sure provides a little UV blocking too!

To piggyback on this thread a little, does anyone have thoughts on the 76MLXF blank as a drop shot rod? I think I want a long casting rod for DS fishing and obv factory options are not really there. I tend to use either 1/8 or 3/16oz weights and my "toughest" hookset will be a 6" Robo on a thin-wire 2/0 straight shank hook. I fish a DS cast-n-drag, stopping to shake when the weigh hangs on something. I fish a lot of soft bottoms so I need to find a balance where the tip is soft enough to get a good shake but stiff enough to un-snag the weight when it gets caught in the muck.

I have never used the Gilly, but do use the SK Shellcracker a lot. It's a similar plastic, tall, skinny, with a tail that provids minimal action. They are very much a "75% of the time they work every time" kind of presentation, but a lot of the time I can be getting nothing on a small swimjig but as soon as I swap out to the Shellcracker, it's game on. The Gilly looks like a more detailed version of the Shellcracker and likely has a lot more action. I am going to pick some up but I am sortta convinced the dead-action of the Shellcracker is part of the magic.

A drop of superglue or if you want it to be removable, a little bit of that blue stuff people use to hang posters and such w/o damaging the wall finish.

I’ve had zero luck getting bass interested my big paddletails so for the most part I’ve been using it to fish swing-head craws though shallow pads. Based on how well that worked I would believe that it’s going to be great for FB jigs as well.

Yes, by “upside down” I mean putting the hook eye closer to the nail-end of the worm.

I picked this guy up a few months ago but just got around to taking some glamor shots. It's an Evergreen Orion Black Rose and I bought it to use for heaver single hook moving baits in cover. I had been using a rod of similar power but a much slower taper and was got getting great hooksets at times with thicker jig hooks. The Black Rose is wonderful, it feels super light and in no way seems like it can have the power it does. It's got a fairly fast taper and casts it's range very well, a 1/4oz swimjig (~5/8oz total) loads and casts as well as a ~2oz paddle tail like the one in the picture. With a bass on it bends a good bit, but as soon as it hits the backbone its game over. I have even been using it for some jig fishing and it's a lot more sensitive than I thought it would be. I had been wanting to try out some non-Megabass JDM rods and this one isn't going to be my last.
