How to seal the dividers in a plano box?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a method for sealing the removable dividers in plano 3700 or 3600 boxes?  I'm trying to keep very small parts like swivels and light wire hooks from migrating from one compartment to another.  I looked into the edge boxes, but reviews say that small stuff can still sneak out of where you put them.

I just use a drop or 2 of super glue.
I have boxes I’ve done 5 yrs ago and they’re still good.

Also, glue a piece of corrugated shelving liner to the underside of the lid.
If you turn the box upside down nothing will move out their assigned spot.

A drop of superglue or if you want it to be removable, a little bit of that blue stuff people use to hang posters and such w/o damaging the wall finish.

I'm new to all of this and have one of the Edge Plano 3600 boxes. I had the same irritating problem so I bought the little Plano boxes that are designed for this. Got them for $3.99 for 3 of them. Bought 3 packages, 9 of these little boxes, and put them in last night. Fit great, clear tops so you can see what is in them. I put my Ned jigs, swivels, and some weights in them. Problem solved, nice and neat and inexpensive to boot.

I just plastic weld them.  I grab a cheap soldering iron that I only use for plastics, and just trace along the edges.  It'll instantly melt the plastic, and two seconds later, it'll act like it's all made from one piece of plastic.

Don't use a good or powerful soldering iron for this.  You'll ruin it for anything other than plastic.  Just get a cheap one from Harbor Freight or whatever, and hang on to it.  Once you figure out how to weld plastic, you'll find it indispensable.

I use tiny zip lock bags for hooks and small parts. Works a charm.

I wanted to permanently change a box...3701, almost twice the dividers - an extra between each slot.

Tried super-glue - didn't stick

Tried silicone - too flimsy...this box is my weight and bare-jig box

Went the soldering iron route..up both edges and across the bottom with just the tip.

Great ideas all.  I have a bad track record with super glue and I've tried plastic bags and they're just too fussy a solution for me.  So, I went the soldering route with a $4.99 iron from harbor freight.  The soldered dividers won't get a real test until the spring, but they seem to have a decently strong bond. Now I'm looking for something thick enough to make a seal between the top of the dividers and the top of the box.  Maybe some kind of foam tape?

Keep the small items in the original bags.

Same issue and found the best solution for me was to put a small magnet in the compartment and all the tiny hooks stick to the magnet and won’t migrate around.

I cut a piece of packaging plastic and glue to inside ot the lid on my terminal 3700.   Plastic like you might find wrapped around a new TV or monitor....thin, but thick enough to keep stuff in place.....like @Mike L's cardboard
