If you remove cranks from the mix, an iRod Fred's Magic Stick might fit the bill. I use it in my kayak as a general "heavy" rod. The handle is kinda long though and it's a bit annoying to use seated. It will only really cast well imho up to around 2 ounces. But, it's a great rod for stuff in it's range and it's in your budget. Which rod are you thinking of?

The trick I was taught, too late for my first pair, is to only cut braid on the back half of the blades and use the front half for floro, mono, and situations where you have to cut close to the terminal tackle connection. I have been doing this on my second pair and it seems to help extend the life a of them a little.

I go back and forth on the floats, I have not used them this year, but I had a near-miss the last time I was out and standing in my yak, so I might go back to them. I really need to see if my full-cork handle rods will float on their own, but I have been too lazy to want to deep clean my reels after the dunking, so I have yet to do it with most of them.

I have bought a lot of used reels from ebay and have never had an issue. Most of them have been from japanese sellers and are usually mechanicaly exelent even if they are cosmeticly pretty rough.

I have a Steez SV TW and while it is a great reel, imho it isn’t worth the msrp. Unless weight is a make or break for you, a sv103 (~$250-300) and your choice of aftermarket spoold gets you the same preformance.

Does DNR still poison/drain ponds when they find snakeheads?

That’s a really cool idea for a tournament. You have some crazy bright sunfish out your way, out here they all seem really muted.

I wonder if silicone o-rings would react the same way? I'm sure they are vastly more expensive, but I would assume you wouldn't loose very many of them unless you snagged.

I do a couple of weeks of work in Miami every spring and the company I work for always sends a new person down to do the job with me. My favorite thing to do once we've got a handle on the project is to hop in a golf cart with my new coworker and take them on "lizard quest". There's a spot near our worksite where, if you're a little sneaky, you can see dozens and dozens of them out sunning themselves on the bank of a lagoon. No one ever believes me when I tell them how many lizards we are going to see, but everyone is absolutely delighted when we pull up, hook the horn, and they all freak out at the same time and run around like lunatics.

If I don’t leave my house by 10am, I am not likey to leave, so I am a morning guy. But, with mostly being a weekday guy, I have to either leave before rushhour, 4-6am or after, 8-9am, to not sit in awful DMV traffic. So unfortunately most of the time I am not ready to be up and gone before rushhour, so I fish more afternoons then I want to. I rarely evening fish, mosty due to my bank spots being in parks that close at dark or wanting to be off the water in my yak well before dark.

MD is tough for bbq. There are some good spots up by Bmore and I have found others scattered around the state, but so much of it (esp the pork) is dull and over sauced with sweet gross katsup tasting trash. Fishing is all good times and fun, BBQ is serious f’ing business.

Hah, well, I want the guy to stay in business so I try to send people his way. He shares a parking lot with Crab Boss, which also rules. They both are randomly closed all the time, so it’s best to call first.

If you mean “Texas 202” in Brandywine then I cannot recomend it enough. Their brisket is out of this world, wet, fatty, and perfect the dozen times I have had it. The sauce is the closest to a real TX sauce as I have found around here. They also serve bodain, which I have never found before in MD.

I had a blast, it was my first time fishing out of a non-kayak boat and oh man is it so much nicer pitcing the big rat without having to worry about keeping my balance. George’s BBQ is amazing and I am shocked and disappointed that I had never heard of it before. I have been going to B&J Carryout for years but somehow never found George’s! I had also never seen a SH anywhere close to 8lb before, just trying to force it’s mouh open to get the fishgrips in was a challenge. I learned a ton about SH fishing and heavy cover fishing in general from Junger and had a great time overall.

I might buy one, take the hooks off, and use it to mess with my buddy when we are wading.

Hey, do any of you guys have a Twin Troller X10? I saw one on the water the other day and talked to the owner. It seems like a really slick fishing platform and I am looking for more info on it.

I don’t know if I have the stones to go that light. I am trying to avoid using braid/leader on one of my finesse combos but I really like tiny spinning reels so I suspect I’m just banging my head against the wall.

For me it came down to legnth. The shorter NRX’s don’t get much love and it’s hard to find a bad thing written about the FMJ, so that settled it for me. It’s an odd-feeling rod, it’s so light that it feels fragile, but it’s got a lot of power and it casts into the lower end of it’s range quite well.

I find that, in general, if I have more then about 6” of line out past the tip, my accuracy tanks. Do you guys notice a decrease in accuracy when you have 12” plus of line out past the tip?

I try to keep my rods as close to 7’ max legnth as I can, so the FMJ was the obvious choice for me.

I pondered this question this spring and ended up with the following: Megabass FMJ sv103 w/ 1016sv spool 40lb Power Pro or 16lb Sniper. This combo is amazing for 1/2oz jigs and a ton of other stuff as well.
