That seems like; It would work really, really well. It would 100% be an one bass per worm deal. I am going to try it but my cheap heart will be crying the entire time.

I fish the DS t-rigged most of the time. The Roboworm Rebarb hooks work great, but you get maybe 2-3 fish per worm, sometimes less. The Owner Finesse Heavy Cover hooks are amazing, but they are like $2 a pop or something dumb like that. But, they are amazing; That was at five bass and it got me like 2-3 more before the worm ripped in half where the hook pops out. I think I still have that hook, they are very stout and sharpen easily. Basspro sells them for like $8 a pack, I can find them on ebay for ~$6 most of the time, otherwise it's a "stock up on BF" thing. They really are wonderful hooks and just as great as a t-rig hook, but the price makes them annoying to use for that.

I was using greens in the Pumpkin/Watermelon ranges and Junebug/Redbug worms. Every time I lost a worm I would swap out to a different color/worm and it didn't seem to matter. The Culprits I tried hopping, dragging, and slow-crawling with the reel. Nothing seemed to tempt them, which is odd as they would gladly hit the flick-shake worms deadsticked on the bottom. As for the jig, it is just a tungsten "bell" formed onto the hook. I like them as they are relatively snag-resistant and when they get stuck-in they really seem to hold on, but the missed hooksets bug me. I might try to bend them out a little so the hookpoint isn't as inline with the eye.

I got a couple of the Cabela's Guidewear ones on some crazy BF clearance and they are really nice. They have a mesh nose/mouth spot and are more "fitted" then the ones that are just tubes. I think I bought 4-5 of them and keep them stashed in all my fishing/hiking bags and packs.

Had like 5 days of just brutal work and had today off, so I hit the pond for like 90min. I had ordered some flick-shake style worms from a garage producer online and wanted to fish them against the Jackall OG's and the BPS version. The testing was a failure as the bass just killed all three of them. These are the best off of each worm; It was an amazing time, I think I got about 9-10 bass with only one under a solid 1lb+. At one point I was jigging one of the worms (the bps one I think) like 6" down maybe a foot of the bank to look at the action and a bass shot up out of nowhere and grabbed it. I switched to a t-rigged 7" Culprit and the bite died. I tried it for like 15 min, then switched back the flick-shake and it was on again. I only left because I was already late to meet my wife for a happy hour thing. I did miss a few bass that gave solid hits and held the worm for seconds. I am using those generic tungsten wacky jigs that everyone sells. On all the bass I landed the hook was very well set, with it taking pliers to get them out a few times, even with the barb mashed down. But I feel like I was missing too many that really had a good grip on it and while I "set" on each, the hook would just pop out as soon as the bass surfaced. Any of you guys use these things? I use the 1/16oz ones, but it's this style.

I could likely go for a few years just fishing the lures I have, maybe only having to rebuy a few types of hooks and line. I still buy a little stuff here and there, but I try to give away as much as I add. Last fall I gave my teenage nephew a bunch of lures that never even saw the water, this fall I am going to do the same with the goal of getting rid of everything (especially plastics) that I have never used.

It took me too many years to come around to accepting that potassium really helps with cramps. I now eat a banana almost every morning before I hike or kayak and the difference is amazing. I am awful about drinking water when I am out fishing though, especially when on foot. Many days I have looked at the water I am fishing in and strongly thought about just writing the next few days off and drinking some.

I would agree, I have noticed that a lot of my jig-bass come from a spidey-sense hookset. I wonder, is the double tap on a worm 1: the bass grabbing it and 2: the bass crushing it?

I fish mostly weightless or lightly weighted soft plastics and most of the time I get 2-3 taps per hit. I find if I set on the first tap I miss more often then not and if I hold off until the second one I tend to get them. I also tend to keep my lures moving, so maybe that is a factor? I do get a lot of hits where my only indication is my spider-sense going off and then setting the hook, but the double/triple tap really seems to happen more often than not when I am fishing soft plastics.

A Megabass XXX Black Themis with an Alphas Finesse Custom loaded with 7lb Sniper. I am liking it well enough so far. The XF action isnt the best for casting ease but a DS rig is kinda a pig to cast in the best if conditions. Almost all of my DS fishing is cast and drag and I really like using a casting reel to inch the presentation along the bottom, stopping to shake evertime I feel the weight hit something or snag.

I perfer to use a casting rod for DS becuase I feel like casting a DS with a medium/long leader is eaiser on a casting reel. I also find a casting combo easier to hold tip-up for long peruods of time.

I would take a GLX for $250 all day every day over most any other rod at full msrp.

All this topwater talk got me excited so I went out yesterday to fish a rat for a while. I got a couple of small blowups, but they were all atleast a foot away from my lure. I gave the rat up and decided to give a huddgill a go. Almost immediately I got a great hit and landed this guy; About 2.75lb and the lure was stuck in the roof of his mouth, one of the better hits on the gill I have gotten. I kept fishing it and got a few more hits and had a few bass on, but could never get the hook set. A few times a nice fat one would slash at it just as I was speeding it up at the end of the retitrve. I started running the lure back a little quicker and something smashed it. I was very excited for about 3 second, then just cranky. This is not a bass; He was pretty rough on my lure; Hudd bite was over for the day. I had an other gill-lure with me, but it was a Savage Gear gill and they have a really different action and the bass were not into it. While it lasted it was the most attention I have gotten on the huddgill in such a short timespan, I need to fish it a lot more. It's annoying in that the gill seems to get more attention, but has an awful hookup ratio while the 68Special gets hit way less often, but I seem to land a greater percentage of fish on it.

I am just south of Annapolis, so stretching the definition of SOMD, but I fish down there a lot due to less traffic. I'm mostly a weekday fisherman and crossing 295/95 requires an all day trip. Also SOMD has Texas 202 bbq and that adds to the appeal. I would love that, I am getting better at working them but I still never really catch much.

I have a couple of light power/bfs casting rods, shoot me a PM if you ever want to meet up and give them a try. It's fun stuff but I would have a few less rods if I had known more when I got into it.

Most of my short outings are to fish a specific presentation that I am hot and bothered for at the moment. A lot of the time the fish are not into what I am trying to feed them, so I skunk out pretty often. If I am going out with the intention to just catch bass, then it's a rare trip where I can't grind out a fish or two on longer trips where I bring a wider range of tackle. This winter was very rough and I was at maybe 12-16 trips before I managed to catch one. I do a lot more hiking and cigar smoking in the winter months.

Very nice! I never really throw topwaters unless I am out at dusk or dawn, I clearly need to change that.

I would really take a look at the st croix mojo bass 2 piece rods. I have been trying to find one to get my hands on for a while now, but the one piece ones feel great for the price. I have been looking at the MJC68MHF2 to use as a hike-in frog rod.

I have 8lb suffix on my main finesse spinning rod right now and I do feel like it casts a little further than the 10lb I usually use. It's definitely fussier to tie leader knots with and I have trouble getting a good connection to heavier (12-15lb) floro leaders that I use sometimes. It will also cut me like a razor if I'm not careful with it and that alone is probably going to send me back to 10lb or maybe even 15lb, which I am trying on one of my medium spinning rods and really liking.

I've never used that particular one, but high-quality paint extension poles are pretty rugged. It's definitely worth checking out in person if you can find one at a nearby store.

I kinda like drifting a DS in my kayak. If I'm too deep to anchor it's the only presentation that works sometimes.

The 5' Biffle Bug is pretty bulky.

Look at Astrals' line of PFDs. They have one called the Ronny that is very slim and a "Fisher" model with pockets that add some bulk.

Are you 100% sold on an inflatable one? There are some pretty comfortable PFDs out there for kayak fishing.
