I bought it as a pure frog rod, but then found I like swimbaits more so the Irod got moved to GP kayak duty and I bought a different combo for swimbaits. I am somewhat souring on super fast reels but it's not worth selling it. I am not really worried about the warranty, I have caught enough fish on it that any breakage is going to be my fault at this point. The balance issue is real, but I would have the builder add back the weight that was removed plus a little to make it balance tip up. At some point I am going to buy a dowel rod and mount my reel on it with tape and start cutting it shorter like 1/2" at a time to see where the sweet spot is for handle length. As it is right now it's painful to fish it for long seated as the butt hits my PFD and it makes me keep my arms at a weird angle on the retrieve. If they made a 6'8" version of the FMS with the same power and taper I would buy two of them, it's such a good rod but the ergonomics really kill it for me. With kayak fishing surging in popularity I hope to see someone start making rods designed for that application.

I have a couple of them with vent holes and it helps a lot in the summer, but once the weather gets cool in my glasses will fog up unless I’m standing completely still. I have the beginnings of a big bushy hillbilly beard coming in and I fear that it’s going to make wearing a buff pretty much impossible.

I have a FMS and if you can deal with the handle length it is a great rod across it's rating. It for sure does not like a BBZ 50 Rat at ~2.5oz, but throws a 2oz soft swimbait just fine. I have the same reel on mine, but it 8:1 and have it spooled with 40lb braid. I use it for now as a gp heavy kayak rod for bass and I am going to bring it along with a Plopper 130 tied on when I am trolling for stripers for the off chance I get a shot at a topwater feed. I am debating getting like 2-3" lopped of the butt for easier kayak use, it's a nice versatile rod but that long butt kills me.

I save mine until I have a big bag full of it and take it to a tackle shop for recycling. However, if I’m out hiking and find a huge wad of nasty old monofilament I tend to just burn it on site with the idea being that that is a lesser evil than letting it blow back in to the river.

I have a BBB ML/MF casting rod and like it a good bit. Not caught anything huge on it yet but it will lift a 2ish pound talipia out of a canal without seeming like it’s going to explode. The case it comes in is crazy good too. You can store it with a reel attatched and the line threaded and go from hiking to fishing in a minute. And honesty at this point I trust ebay over amazon in terms of bootleg stuff and getting my money back.

I wear shorts most of the summer and my legs look like hell starting around April. I wear the tights if I am going to be in the direct sun, but I am still undecided on them for ticks. If I remember to pre-treat them with Primentrin I think they are an asset, but otherwise I perfer bare legs for faster tick detection.

I do shorts and tights in the summer when on my yak or when bankfishing spots where I have to wade into tall grass. I bought a pair of AFTCO fishing shorts last summer and love them. They look very cheaply made but they have really held up well and dry faster then any other fabric that I have found. I am still searching for the ideal tights but mosy any light baselayer will work well enough.

I am like 2 for 3 in ruining cigars when I try to smoke and fish at the same time. Now I just carry a tallboy and anchor up to have it with my cigar with the rods stowed. I do a little tidal fishing but am way quicker to give up on that and just hang out on the water then when I am bass fishing.

Finally got a nice bass from my kayak this year; If his butt was as big as his head he would have been a real monster. I also got a pickerel who swarmed up from about 5-6' of water to smash an S-Waver right as I was about to lift it out of the water. I want to start throwing more big baits in here as I have seen some real bruisers on beds, but the picks really give me pause.

I suspected as much. Is there a good glide in the 1oz range? One that light would work on a couple of my rods and would see a ton of use.

I spend some time today fishing my FMS and while it is cumbersome to deal with, it is the power/action I am looking for and it sounds like the FR 664C isnt the rod I am looking for. I did a little looking around and it looks like St Croix has an almost identical rod in the Avid line, the AVC66MHF, and I am going to look into it and see if it might work for me. I know St Croix tends to under-rate their rods, so it might be a better fit.

The Menace Grub is a great plastic. I fish them weightless on a 3/0 stright shank hook until they get too ripped up and then cut 1/2" off the head and use them as trailers. They also work great on a 1/8oz Slider Head in current, that combo is very snag-proof and and has great action.

Hi, I am looking to get a "heavier then a 3 power Loomis MBR" rod for my kayak. I like my rods on the short side and this rod will replace an Irod Fred's Magic Stick that I cannot get to work for me. I want it for throwing frogs and other topwaters like toads, paddle tails, and other plastics fished on top. Secondary uses would be small plastic and hard swimbaits, up to like an S-Waver 168 if the rod could take making lob-casts with something that heavy. None of the cover I fish is super heavy and I don't mind getting my yak into the weeds if I need to get a fish out. Not sure on the reel yet, I have a *** A on the FMS with 40lb braid on it but I am not sure I don't want to go with a heavy mono. My main concern about the Fury is the tip. I want to be able to load well with lighter frogs and be able to make accurate casts. The Fury line gets a lot of good press but I have never read much at all about this specific rod and would love any input.

Man I cannot bring myself to throw a buzzbait when there is any light out. I just see it in the water and think "man, that isn't going to fool anything". I will throw and catch on equally outlandish lures in the middle of the afternoon, but for some reason "buzzbait=dark" is burned into my brain.

Yea, lures are a temporary thing, good equipment is a far better "investment".

Nice! My primary kayak rods are a pair of CR723 MBRs and I can do so much with just those two rods I kinda want a 4 Power to go with them.

What size Shine Glide are you guys fishing? Bought one of the small 1oz ones and was not impressed with it the one time I had it out. I haven't fished it enough to really know anything but it seems to have a much less versatile range of movement as compared to the S-Waver.

I keep wanting to try some of the Iovino worms but the min package being 25 puts me off. Once I make a dent in my Robo stash I will give the Iovino worms a go. I keep a few Slider heads and a few 1/16oz wacky jig heads in with my dropshot stuff. All three can make use of the same plastics and all three fish well on the same tackle.

I had an osprey make off with an S-Waver a few weeks ago. He hit the water like a cinderblock and after about a 45 second fight my knot broke and he flew off with it. I called DNR and they weren't very excited about it, apparently it happens all the time, especially in the tidal rivers around the Bay. I am for sure going to buy more of that color though.

More or less. Slider Fishing was one of the early codified finesse systems. The heads are great, both the thinner brass hooks and the thicker steel ones. The 3/0 x 1/16oz Slider heads are great for most any plastics that will work with the hookgap. Zoom lizards in particular work amazingly well on them and seem to last far longer then when I have them rigged on a 3/0 offset hook and weight.

Switch to 8lb braid, you will get some immediate feedback if you are cinching too tightly. ? If you are using a "bass sized" spinning reel maybe try 8lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid? Their 8lb is like .011", so closer to most 12lb lines. If you are using a casting reel, bump up to their 12lb, it is like .014" or something like that. It is kinda stiff and wiry, but if you are used to 40lb mono it should be no issue.
