It’s not a MajorCraft, but I just picked up a Dawia Walleye ML/XF spinning rod on sale from ALF. It’s rated 1/16-1/8oz, but it will cast a Trout Slayer about 30-40’ and will load and cast a 1/16 head with a 2” grub as far as any UL I have used. Its got a ton of backbone and I have high hopes for it.

Speaking of that, I just picked up a great rod from ALF using the last code. It's a Daiwa DXW Walleye Spinning Rod 6'6" DXW661MLXS, which, despite being labeled a ML, fishes like an UL with a ton of backbone. It will cast a Trout Slayer as well as any UL I have used and will get a 1/16oz jig w/ 2" Swing Impact as far out there as I need it. Fit and finish is good to OK, my only worry is the tip top looks a little flimsy, but we shall see about that. It's on sale already and the sale brings the price down even further. If anyone is looking for an UL spinning rod, it is worth a look.

I bought a bag of the tiny ones and fished them like a fat ika, but with a 2/0 twist lock hook and on a ml/f spinning rod. It worked well enough and was a good "heavy" option for creek fishing.

I would go Daiwa BG, I got one over the winter and it feels as smooth as my Ci4+ Shimanos and is built like a tank. They are on the heavy side, but other then that I am 100% pleased with mine.

I caught two trout on a dropshot yesterday, did not even see a bass. I did see a lot of baitfish schooling up shallow at all three ponds I hit, which makes me hopeful. I want to get my kayak out quite badly, but the dry suit is put away and I know we are so close to being able to not worry about it. I have to get off my butt and get my suit back to the manufacturer for some tailoring, I think if it were more comfortable I would be more inclined to use it. Either that or I need to find some waders with a zipper. But in any case, I am not spending another winter stuck on the bank, if I am going to be cold out there I atleast want to be able to catch something.

10 I love old blues, but I can't stand recording hiss, so a lot of it is unlistenable to me. To jump back up to "covers I like better than the original recordings", these ladies are the queens of lo-fi country.

I have also had some luck with squarebills, flukes, and spinnerbaits this year, but nothing consistent. I am still catching more trout and pickerel the bass, when that switches over is the end of "winter" for me. Every warm spell gets my hopes up, but so far it's only been the most windy of days that seems to let me catch bass on reaction baits.

I have gotten a few reels from them with no issue. The shipping times are never the same, I assume that it's a customs thing as when it does take a week+, the package is always sitting in CA or NY during the delay. They also will throw in free lures sometimes, my last reel came with a Megabass deep diving crank.

They were mostly SK 1.5’s, but I had managed to hold on to them for months, so loosing them all in a single trip made me a bit cranky. I am not risking my Pointers in that mess anytime soon. I swore off bank fishing Cash last year as it is too frustrating, but was passing by there yesterday and decided to give it a shot. If this wind ever stops I am going to drag my kayak out there, the place really opens up once you are not limited to the allowed sections of bank. Still might go there today and try to get my revenge on that piece of braid.

How far north do you have to go for walleyes? I finally had a decent day this year, hit Cash Lake and managed five decent ones in like 2 hours. It cost me three squarebills, one lipless, and a spinnerbait. I dredged up like a half dozen rusty crappy jigs and a mile of line. There is a chunk of like 100lb braid that I lost two of the cranks on, I might head back tomorrow with a snagging hook and 100' of paracord and try to get it out or atleast break it in half.

I have some and am going to try them today, just packed them up. I am more excited to use them on the DS or split shot then as a Ned plastic though. I also want to get a pack of the larger ones and see how they look wacky rigged.

Yep, me too. I now chant “It’s not a good deal if I dont need it” to mysef over and over again whenever I am in a tackle shop or looking around online. I still buy too much stuff, but I am getting bettet!

I just impulse bought a daiwa dxw walleye spinning rod from ALF. It’s a ML/XF, but only rated for 1/16-1/8oz. I have been looking for a light spinning rod for panfish jigs and trout worms, and the last one I bought, a g. loomis imx sjr 6400, is way way off on it’s rating, So I still need something to fill my ultralight panfish rod hole. It was only fifty bucks and I love the foregrip, I thought I would take a chance on it. I figure one can never have too many spinning rods as loaners for my occasionally fishing friends.

Oh man, that would be a great white perch rod! Jerking perch is great, if you find them schooled up you can catch dozens every hours.

I have never found much info about the non Megabass or Major Craft jdm brands, where can one even learn about the other companies?

I just got my first tenn handled rod a few months ago and I think I like them. I have my reel set to make the tip float up and I really like it. I am a huge fussy baby when it comes to spinning rod ergonomics, so I think I am going to stick with Tenn grips on my next custom.

Fortunately my wacky work schedule allows me to fish during weekdays almost every week, but the river still freaks me out a little. All my current river experiences are in the more sedate tidal rivers around Annapolis. I’ve been to Mallows Bay a handful of times but I’ve never done terribly well there, that’s mostly though I’m always distracted staring at all the wrecks and such.

Yikes, well I guess I can scratch the Potomac off of my plans for this season, at least heading out there on the weekend sounds kind of nightmareish.

Does the Potomac really get that crowded? It’s a pretty big d**n river. I haven’t worked up the courage to drag my kayak out there yet and it kind of sounds like I might not even want to.

This, but do everything about three times as slow as you think you should.

It’s tough to find a small pack if you are trying to fit a specific sized box in it, as once you get to fractions of an inch, it’s usualy 50/50 of it fitting at all or without a big fight. My sling pack is from Fishpond and I called them up to ask. The guy on the phone didnt know nor did he have a 3600 box on hand, but they emailed me a few days later to confirm it would fit once someone brought one in from home to check for me. If anyone is looking for a good small backpack, I cannot say enough good things about the Ospery Talon 11. It’s lightweigh, crazy comfortable, and the main compartment will fit a 3600/pair of 3500 boxes with room left over for a light packable rain jacket and small firstaid kit. I keep one loaded with a travel combo and small tackle kit in my car 100% of the time, so I am always ready to go if I have a fishing emergency.

I would love a fanny pack that is just big ebough to fit a single 3500 box, but as they are rarely found in stores these days, I have never managed to find one.

I hate having any more junk then I have to in my pockets, so my ultra-minimilst “pack” is a rockclimbing chalk bag clipped to my belt. It’s almost weightless and helps insure I never (again) launder a bag of worms or pack of hooks.

I use a fly fishing sling that will hold a signal 3600 box and a handful of loose lures. But when I'm really going light I use a fly fishing chest pack that I thread onto my belt that will hold a bag or two of plastics, a small box of terminal tackle, and a handful of lures.

I used to buy a ton of stuff from Amazon, fishing-related and otherwise, but I feel like in the last year or two the prices have been rising so much that even with "free" shipping with Prime, I can usually get the exact same thing off of eBay for less even when I have to pay a separate shipping charge. I also got sold some very obvious bootleg batteries via Amazon last year, and when I looked around for information about it it seems like a ton of people are having problems like that now that most stuff on Amazon is actually sold and shipped by third-party companies.
