  2. Doesn't Bear Grylls eat them
  3. Clear fingernail polish? I've never tried it, so i'm not sure if it would react with any of the materials on the rod or not.
  4. I haven't went back and counted the people who used the word "cheating", but since I used that word, I will try and clarify the context in which I used it. The premise of this thread, IMO, is not whether anyone likes BD's show or not, but if we feel slighted ,"cheated", or somehow done a disservice because he fishes private managed ponds, Personally, I like watching tournament shows the best, I don't tend to give credence to any show that is specifically made to try and sell me something. I just enjoy the fishing, even if I've heard that people will catch fish on another bait, only to reel it in, rehook it to the bait they're trying to sell, let it swim away, then film it like it was caught on the bait they're trying to sell. I hear that happens quite often, although I can't prove it because I wasn't there to witness it first hand.
  5. Negative. I saw the frog disappear, felt the fish swimming with it, then set the hook. In all cases except this one, the frog eventually floats to the top.
  6. I foul hooked it LOL!! The learning curve continues....
  7. I'm guessing women would rather see a printout of every lure we ever bought, than to find out someone else was playing with her husbands lure .
  8. I never knew there was so much ego wrapped up in catching fish. If Bill dance is cheating by fishing a certain pond, are any of you cheating by buying the latest greatest lure to fish pressured water, hoping to give the fish "something they haven't seen before"?
  9. I personally like having more rounds. I feel that each caliber is capable of getting the job done, provided we do ours. I carry an M&P 9c
  10. My apologies as i'm sure this has been covered, but my Google fu isn't very good I'm looking to get a couple of baitcasting reels in the future, and i'm wondering about what size to get. It seems like some of the more popular reels discussed around here are available in the 100 size, but there are also reels that are in the 200 size. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each size? Does one excel over the other simply from the size difference? Is there a consensus on what size people use most for river, pond, and lake fishing? Is it technique driven? Just trying to learn, and I figured there are plenty more experienced people than myself, on here. Thank you for any responses.
  11. How much fun would it be to watch Bill, or any other angler with a show, aimlessly throwing lure after lure and not catch anything except dinks? I don't care if they have a scuba diver hooking lunkers to his line out of our site, I watch fishing shows for techniques and large fish being caught. I couldn't care less where he fishes. JMO of course.
  12. There will never be a definitive answer to this question until the fish can talk, and I don't know of any that have up to this point
  13. I've never heard of a pflueger president causing problems simply by it's design. Windknots and birdsnests are caused by line selection and user error when retrieving slack line or reeling against the drag. JMO of course.
  14. I saw the Motive on sale for $49.95 at my local Academy Sports. Is it a better overall reel than the mettle? http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_1251735_-1?cm_mmc=pla-_-Fishing+Fishing+Reels+Baitcast+Reels-_-Google-_-H2O+Xpress+Motive+Low+Profile+Baitcast+Reel+Right-handed&kwid=productads-plaid%5E151817660238-sku%5E101775024-adType%5EPLA-device%5Ec-adid%5E69707527278
  15. Hey all, just looking for some tips on keeping soft plastic baits, mainly Texas rigged stuff, from exploding the tip when catching fish. I saw that trick that Glenn did, when he put the piece of large diameter line through the plastic and the eye of the hook. Are there any other ways to help with this? also, is braid helping to cause this? I usually just tie directly to braid. would using a leader of fluoro, copoly, or mono help them last longer? I figure I can use Mend It to bring some life back to these baits that I have now and just use them again or use them with Jigs or something else, instead of throwing them out. Here's a pretty well used bait, but it happens to new baits a lot too. .
  16. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. For clear water, or slow moving presentations, you probably wouldn't be doing yourself a disservice by using less visible line. For everything else, it probably has less effectiveness. I probably wouldn't dropshot with 65# braid, and I wouldn't worry about a leader, or changing the type of line I normally use, throwing into mats, top water, jerkbaits, spinners etc.
  17. I would try working the top first with a frog, lizard, or fluke. depending on time of day, or if the sky was overcast, I'd throw a spook Jr, or popper of some kind, in those open pockets of water. If I didn't get anything productive out of that, I would Texas rig, wacky rig weedless, splitshot, or even throw a Texas rigged weighted frog jig underneath that cover. That pond looks a lot like the pond that I caught the fish in my avatar. A frog was working for bites but they weren't gulping it. i switched to a Spook Jr. in the open water pockets that netted me 5 fish in about 15 minutes, only 1 of them was a dink. TLDR; I would find out what they wanted, and give it to them.
  18. Just spitballin here, and maybe this is not the greatest idea, but what about gluing a strip magnet somewhere. It would only work for the metal objects though. You could also do something like a plastic jar, with a lid, and velcro it to something, or make it fit into a cup holder or some place easily accessible.
  19. Right now, I'm carrying a 6'10" ethos on a pflueger president with 20# power pro braid. I use a Camelbak Mule which holds a Plano 3600 waterproof stowaway box perfectly in one easily accessible outside pocket. I carry a few bags of plastics in another pocket, plus odds and ends ( pliers, poncho, first aid kit, etc ). I will fill the bladder with whatever beverage I feel like taking with me (usually water) and head out. My tackle box consists of mostly top water stuff, jigs, worms, flukes, couple of cranks, and some terminal tackle. Seems to work well for me, but I'm always looking to streamline it.
  20. Op, what reels do you use besides the $15 baitcaster that sucks?
  21. Academy is the cheapest major retail chain that I've see senkos recently. They're even more expensive a Wally World.
  22. Very true. I use a snap to try different stuff until I find what is working that day, then tie direct. Sometimes I'll end up using a snap the entire time, but I always retie the snap each night, or before the next time I go fishing, and I'm always testing and checking the knot along the way.
  23. Well that really added value to the thread. Reminds me of that old saying about "if you don't have anything nice to say......"
  24. Pretty meh right now for me. Deadliest Catch was fantastic until Phil died, now it's not the same. Looking forward to the new X Files.
