  1. Each year I get a little more disappointed in the Bass Pro Spring Sale. This used to be the pre-eminent fishing sale of the year with good deals on all the popular name brand stuff like Shimano, Daiwa, Lews etc. but over the past 5+ years those deals have vanished for the most part and they are REALLY pushing their house brand stuff very hard. Honestly, the BPS house brand stuff is super hot or miss IMO, some of it's decent but more often than not it's a cheap knock-off of other successful brands and they don't work as well. The only decent deal they've had in recent years has been their Pro Qualifier 2 reel which is a quality reel and you used to be able to get that for half price at $49.99 but now even that deal is gone as the price has risen to $79.99. It's a shame but maybe if Bass Pro loses enough money as more and more people get discouraged by their mostly house brand sale and look elsewhere they'll come to their senses and realize their customers want more of the popular name brand stuff included like it used to be...one can hope!!!
  2. You sir officially suck...lol.

  4. I'm the opposite...to me all I knew was spinning reels growing up so I became so proficient using my dominant right arm to work the rod and my non-dominant left to reel that when I got into baitcasters just a few years ago trying to reel with my right hand felt so alien to me (even though I'm right-handed)...I could do it but it felt completely unnatural to me and I'm 100% more comfortable using a lefty casting reel and reeling with my left hand. Me personally, I want to use my stronger dominant arm/hand to work the rod and get powerful hook sets and such and my weaker arm/hand to reel.
  5. This is cool...lol https://youtu.be/vD6YikHdbRU
  6. I got a Fuego CT already...6.3:1.
  7. I'm really just looking for a better rod to throw like Gantarel Jr., Shellcracker G2, S-Waver 168/200, Spro BBZ! 6", 7" Savage Gear Shine Glide etc. in that range...maybe a Huddleston 68...along those lines.
  8. Not bad but $120 is about all I have and the rod will cost that. Like I said, I'm really trying to make use of the reels I have but if that's not a possibility than I may just have to forget about it for now.
  9. Hmmm...those two reels are 7.4:1 and 7.3:1 respectively. I do have some lower gear ratio reels though in a 6.3:1 Daiwa Fuego and Shimano SLX...neither of those reels has the spool capacity though right?
  10. yeah, I was just stating the specs but was thinking 50lb braid with a 20lb. mono leader. I know the Tranx is a nice reel but like I said, if I can't use one of the reels I already own I'll table the whole swimbait rod idea for now.
  11. Okay, the rod I'm eyeing is the Okuma Guide Select 7'11" Heavy/Moderate Fast swimbait rod. Do I have to use a round casting reel or could I use a low profile reel on it? This will be for small to medium swimbaits (1 - 4oz.). I was thinking of putting either my Curado DC 150 or my Concept Z on it as they both hold a decent amount of line (135 yards of 12lb. mono for both I believe). If it's almost a necessity for a round reel i may shelve the swimbait rod idea for another day as I don't have money for a rod AND reel right now.
  12. Okay, I haven't really shipped any rods (unless it was paid for by the manufacturer)...which is cheaper, the USPS or a courrier service like UPS or FedEx Ground? I know rods are tall but they weigh next to nothing even packed in a pvc tube and they're skinny so why would it cost $30+ to ship? I have a rod I'd like to put for sale but it's 7'5" and I don't want to pay an exorbitant amount of shipping.
  13. I don't see the 805CB listed as one of the models...are there some models not listed? If so, wonder if they have a 795SB or an 806SB too?
  14. Equipped with high quality hardware as well, the Berkley Frittside Crankbait is armed with sticky sharp Berkley Fusion19 treble hooks that provide lightning fast hook penetration, which is crucial for short striking and lethargic fish. Finished with a custom paint job, the Berkley Frittside Crankbait provides proven balsa action with the durability and casting performance of a modern hard plastic crankbait. This is straight from Tacklewarehouse!
  15. Darn you!!!
  16. If you ever want to get rid of it or have duplicates you'd like to sell give me a holler
  17. How do you like that Shellcracker G2?
  18. Looks like he modded the box with some metal bars and brackets. Doesn't look hard to do and I love the layout!!!
  19. KTP is an excellent source for Megabass lures (and a lot of other lure brands as well). Their customer service is exceptional and their ship times aren't too bad either. If you sign up for their newsletter (it's free) they give you free shipping on every order $20 or more.
  20. I went on a Megabass spending spree this summer...gulp...lol. Seriously the most expensive is a $25 I-Jack and a few $20 Pop-Max.
  21. Just got me one of these . https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-Automotive-Tool-Set/1000594839
  22. Oh I've changed it before but this time the mechanic at the dealer must have used Hercules strength to tighten that oil drain screw...I just can't get it undone. I may have to use one of those hand held impact screwdrivers to get the dang thing off.
  23. The money isn't the problem really, it's the time. I always have something going on on the weekend and don't get out of work in time to get it to the dealer before they close at 5:30pm. He actually changed it in the spring and put a new drain plug in but he must have been hercules as I can't budge the d**n thing with a screwdriver. I don't want to break it either than it would leak. If I could somehow get it off myself i could change my own oil.
  24. What about the oil change in the lower end?
  25. Okay, this is for the guys who live up North where currently your season is pretty much over and if you're like me and just got about 6" of snow and the temp outside is hovering around 20 degrees with the wind howling about. Do you leave your battery's in your boat over the winter or do you take them inside and put them on cardboard? My boat is in my garage so it's out of the elements but it's not a heated garage and it still gets very cold...just no snow will get in. Also, I did winterize my boat, put fuel stabilizer in the tank and ran it about 15 minutes to get some in the fuel lines. I fogged the motor. The one thing I didn't get a chance to do was change the oil in the lower end. It was changed in Spring and due to just not having enough time this year I only took my boat out once for a couple of hours...should I change it before Winter really gets here in earnest or am I okay until next Spring?
