  1. Hey all, As a Boston area native, it is almost disappointing for me to say that it took until I was fifteen to catch my first striper. Now that I have, I'm hooked. I know saltwater doesn't come up much on the resource, but i'd like to ask those of you who striper fish: how do you catch 'em? I'm looking for any tips I can get from rods/ reels/ to baits to locations to times of day. Don't be shy, anything you know about striper fishing that you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I can stockpile some info and apply it before winter or let it ferment until spring in order to get in on some good ones. Thank!
  2. I don't know if you use spinning or casting but I would recommend spinning for your application as well.
  3. I think that 20 lb should be sufficient as far as casting goes, but some type of fluorocarbon, whether it be a leader or your main line, would help a lot. maybe check out P-line fluoroclear. It's a great copolymer line with a fluoro coating. I find it great for fishing lighter baits. I just don't like braid a much when it comes to fishing weightless plastics.
  4. Strike King KVD swim jigs. Throw a Paca Chunk or paddle tail swimbait trailer on one of those suckers and get ready for some fish!
  5. may the lord guide them on their journey to a fish!
  6. congrats dude! My thought go out to you, your daughter, and your whole family. Good luck to you in the future!
  7. I personally think you should pursue golf, especially if you have potential as you say you do. From the articles I've read, becoming a pro angler is something that can be extremely stressful and take away from your life, o maybe get into the PGA and use your winnings to get a brand new bass boat and all the rods/reels/baits you could ever imagine!
  8. get a longer rod and some lighter line! Maybe get a worm rod/reel just for weightless plastics.
  9. I like P-line fluoroclear. It's technically a copolymer with a fluorocarbon coating, but I use it in place of fluoro and it is fantastic!
  10. I have a tube. smells horrid!

beautiful truck! good luck on the build!
  12. also try keeping hooks in their original packaging.
  13. wow, that mount looks like it's really held up well!
  14. I use the regular 1/64 oz. They are the perfect size. When you think about it, trout mostly feed on small aquatic and semi-aquatic insects, so "matching the hatch" is best done with small presentations such as flies and the jigs. I've caught rainbows big and small on them and native-sized brookies. It is better to go smaller than bigger from my experience.
  15. I don't know much about outboards but i'd say give it a look or have it inspected. It could be many thing. maybe the prop is loose?
  16. but the IX is good for the money, I agree with that.
  17. no but those more expensive ones have metal internals
  18. I have a Rage and it is GREAT! But wait until 2016, they're coming out with a new mojo bass! It's going for $120 but is an SCIII rod blank, the same as the Rage and the Avid(X). And yes, a St. Croix will be a HUGE step up from an ugly stik. After I got my Rage, I couldn't fish my ugly stik any more, it just felt too heavy and insensitive. After you step up, you'll be able to truly feel the quality of your old rods.
  19. really really sad to hear that. Perhaps "lost bag" signs near the dock will help?
