  1. Just picked up my new 2021 Phoenix 920 Elite last week, already had it out and its a huge upgrade over my old tracker.
  2. I've got a couple spiral wrap rods for saltwater. The theory is that the spiral wrap helps to alleviate the side to side torque (tendency to roll) on the rod when fighting larger fish. Not sure how much help it would be for bass fishing.
  3. Yeah I just use Auto unless its really bad, then I use 4 Hi.
  4. I put in an order for a Phoenix 920 Elite a while ago and it should be here in a month. Gonna be a major upgrade from the old tracker lol. I have a 2019 Sierra with the X31 offroad package and I just run the normal all terrains during winter, works just fine.
  5. Thanks guys I think I'm going to take a look at invizx and maybe try a spool of sniper.
  6. Anybody buy any spools of Sniper recently and how is it working for you? I read a bunch of negative reviews about Sniper FC on Tackle Warehouse that seem to be limited to the past year saying that the line isn't the same as it used to be. I'm looking to upgrade my fluoro from Red Label to either Invizx or Sniper so just trying to get some outside opinions before I make the switch.
  7. I would definitely go with the bigger boat just due to the fact that it will give you a little more space to work with. You can always upgrade the trolling motor to an ultrex down the road.
  8. I personally use a 13 fishing cranking rod for cranks and a 6'8" medium moderate action for jerkbaits. The medium argon rod might be a good jerkbait and crankbait rod but most people tend to look for a rod with a moderate action for cranking. The Champ 705 is probably gonna be a little too heavy for jerkbaits and cranks. You can prob get away with throwing heavier deep diving cranks on the 705, but for smaller squarebills and stuff try a medium rod.
  9. I usually fish weightless senkos on a Champion 683sf or Kaden 743c, so I'd stick with a 3 power rod, your fury 703sf should be perfect. The 2 power dobyns work but are a little light imho. I used to fish swimjigs on a fury 734c but switched to a sierra 734c, but the fury will do just fine. As for Keitechs, it depends on what weight jighead you plan on fishing them with but for 3/8 oz+ the fury 734c is a good choice, anything less I would go with your 703 Champion.
  10. I have a Kaden 743, Fury 734 and Sierra 734. For 3/8 and 1/2 oz, the 734s are definitely the ticket. The 743 Kaden feels great with 1/4 and 5/16. 3/8 is doable but I would not go over 3/8 without switching to a 4 power Dobyns.
  11. I own a 734 Fury and a 743 Kaden. My 734 fury is great at 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs and anything under 3/8 goes on the 743 Kaden. I was throwing a 1/4 oz swinghead with a rage bug on the 743 Kaden and it felt perfect. The 734 Fury feels a bit too stiff for 1/4 and less imho.
  12. Thanks guys!
  13. Was fortunate enough to sack a 17-11 bag with my tournament partner to take 3rd place out of 130 teams, qualifying us for the 2021 College National Championship. Caught all of our fish off main lake bluff ends with submerged timber. Water temp was 46-48 main lake.
  14. Currently on a college team, working on adding a couple more rods this year and should be finally done with the collection lol. Spinning: Dobyns Fury 702sf / Stradic 2500 FJ - ned rig/finesse Dobyns Champion XP 702sf / Stradic 2500 Ci4+ - dropshot rod Dobyns Sierra 701sf / Stradic 2000 Ci4+ - ultra finesse Dobyns Champion XP 683sf / Stradic 2500 ci4+ - senko/dock skipping rod Dobyns Kaden 713sf / TBD - shakeyhead Casting: Dobyns Fury 734C / Tatula CT - jig rod Dobyns Kaden 743C / SLX - swimjig rod Dobyns Sierra 734C / Fuego CT - chatterbait rod Dobyns Sierra 703C / Curado 70 - weightless fluke/senko rod Dobyns Fury 704C / Curado DC - jig/ dock skipping rod Shimano Crucial 7' MH Moderate/ Curado 200I - cranking rod Omen Black 7'1 MH / Curado 50e - Texas rig/Jerkbait/other rod Kistler Helium 3 7'4" MH / Tatula SV - Jig rod Custom Phenix Blank 6'8 M / Curado 50e - bladebait rod
  15. I've got a Fury 734c, 702sf, 704c, Champion 702sf, 683sf and Sierra 703c, 734c. I feel that the sierra series are better moving bait rods as the action is more of a moderate fast and has less backbone than the Fury line. My champion 702sf also feels more sensitive than the Fury. It all depends on what you are looking to do with the rod. If you need a good bottom contact rod, go with the champion, otherwise stick with a fury or sierra. You can't really go wrong with any of them.
  16. I'd say a medium light spinning rod for dropshots, shakeyheads, and the occasional senko would be a good bet
  17. Both have minimal electronics though I do have a new helix 5 sonar gps to put on it. Think i will be going with the first boat. Thanks guys
  18. Currently trying to decide between two boats to purchase as my first bass boat. Mainly looking to fish Candlewood and Mahopac, but also would like to be able to fish a couple of smaller electric only lakes. I will be fishing with 2 people max in the boat. Currently, I've been looking at two boats: 1. 2012 Crestliner Storm 16 ft w/ 2012 Mercury 40hp 4-Stroke EFI - $7k - No Tach/Speed/Fuel Gauges - Smaller boat 2. 2003 G3 17.5 ft w/ 2003 Yamaha 50 hp 2-Stroke - $7k - Older boat and motor - 2 Stroke Which boat would be the better buy for a new boater? Thanks
  19. Can say the same about spinning gear, not all spinning gear is the same. I use a 6'3" med-heavy rod to skip docks and I do just fine pulling fish out of them. You don't need an 3000 or 4000 size reel to pull fish out of docks, a 2500 is more than enough.
  20. Never understood why people want to skip with casting gear... With the relatively short distance you're fishing in, it's probably 20x easier to skip with a spinning setup.
  21. Yeah but white braid will stain and turn brown/green depending in the water abd muck you fish in...
  22. I would argue that when jig fishing, the quality/sensitivity of the rod matters much more than the reel, especially if you are only flipping/pitching and not casting too much. I'd look at getting a used GLX/NRX or Kistler Helium 3 for around $300 and spend the rest on a Tatula/Curado. As nice as it is, there is absolutely no need for a Chronarch MGL if it isn't going to help you catch more fish.
  23. The reel isn't too small. It's really just a question of whether or not it can handle pulling a bass out of cover...
  24. The general consensus seems to be that GLoomis rods are more worth it at the GLX and NRX series. Not saying that the other rods in their lower series are necessarily bad, but they are certainly overpriced.
