  1. I do fish for crappies and yellow perch, near my house there are a few ponds with some absolute monsters-in ponds I fish for bass anyway. I also go after lake trout (along with perch/crappies/bluegills) through the ice. I'd love to fish for walleyes, but there aren't many in NH. I guess a Minnesota vacation is in order,
  2. I've deliberately gotten my trolling motor stuck in the pads to keep me there on several occasions. Sometimes it's all you can do.
  3. 99% of the time I fish with my father or the one fishing buddy I have who is as serious as I am. When we take my friend's boat I always bring food, and he's a bachelor so it's always welcome. He's excited to go with someone who can help load, unload-all the stuff that boat owners do. I have a few friends who are not really into fishing, when I take them I bring my second level rods for them to use. If something breaks, oh well. I'd feel like a jerk if I was frog fishing and they didn't have a rod that could do the job. Nothing worse than a friend who is down to one crappy rod with four hours of fishing left.
  4. I swear by Kano Microil. All of the Kroil products are fantastic, and no, I don't work for them!
  5. I'm the exact opposite. The most interesting NFL event is the draft! I was a grouch for about 48 hours after Sparty beat the Bucks. Then again, I live in Pats land where 90% of fans have zero interest in college football.
  6. YouTube is awesome for fishing shows. It's not quite as infomercial-like, and there's a ton out there.
  7. It's Bama going away. The only team that can beat them is going to be on the outside looking in-Ohio State. would be kinda nice to see Saban get revenge against Stoops for that bowl game debacle a few years back. I also have a feeling that UNC may knock Clemson out. Would love to see what Harbaugh is like today. I hate *ichigan.
  8. I ice fish, snowmobile, and make lures. I may travel to go fishing if we have ice late into spring.
  9. Why do you need so many rods?
  10. I would do that if I didn't have the second set of wheels. I swap them out in the driveway when I do my bearings then drag it down into the woods with my tractor. Good advice for others.
  11. Yes, the only time I have other tires on is when I park it for the winter. (two sets of wheels) I don't want the Goodyears to flat spot of weather crack, and I bring them in the basement. Stfreed, I'm from Southeastern Ohio originally-I have family from Roseville to Pomeroy.
  12. UTZ Sweet potato are my weakness, so I never buy them. They rarely last over two days.
  13. Moonshine or Tequila-although I only drink on vacation. Typically my vacations take me to Appalachia or Mexico. The life of a bilingual redneck.
  14. On the surface that makes no sense. Why they would set it up that way? What's the reasoning behind it? I can only imagine the in boat arguments that must take place.
  15. I love when I'm fishing with a younger guy (I'm 38) and they say, "WHAT is THAT!?" Then I show them the auger action on the drop and they can't believe it. I've caught a ton of smallmouth on 6'' auger tails on the drop.
  16. I carry an old 5'6" baitcasting rod-pistol grip-in the car for piscatorial emergencies. I really can't stand two piece rods, but they may have gotten better in the last 20 years.
  17. Nostalgia is a part of it, it reminds me of fishing limestone quarry ponds in southeastern Ohio in my dad's old Fisher Marine. That aside, I think the auger tail action is unmatched-or if it isn't I haven't found the worm that beats it. I really like the slim profile, it comes through grass better than the thicker worms do. There is something about that plastic formulation, I melted a bunch of used ones into dropshot worms and they were great too. (the old earthworm brown color)
  18. In 1996, when you sell off a bunch of crappy CDs for cash, these things just think of themselves.
  19. And if it's a private sale, look at the condition of as many of his other toys as possible. That's a good indicator of how he is with preventative maintenance.
  20. Turkey-I eat enough ham throughout the year. I'm looking forward to making stuffing with my sourdough bread, that and the yams make the meal.
  21. I would go aluminum up to 18' and then fiberglass. That 17' Triton/115 is going to be more stable than say a BPS Pro Team 175 aluminum-however it won't be significantly better to fish out of. I don't particularly like smaller fiberglass boats, there's a lot more cost just for the stability and ability to go faster with your outboard. If you get into the 18'/150 hp boats then I'm going to lean fiberglass. Where I'm at in NH, there just isn't enough big water to justify an 18', so I traded my Nitro for aluminum with a 4 stroke. Glad I did. I had a 17' Nitro with a 115 Merc for a few years, I couldn't wait to get rid of it. My old 17' Fisher marine from 1981 was just as nice and I didn't care if my buddy got Red Man spit on the side of it.
  22. Condition and how it has been cared for are as important as age.
  23. Every year, make sure to change your lower unit oil too. If there's water in it, it can freeze and your lower unit will crack.
  24. Every 90s kid has a few they don't use. I carry mine that way because they don't jingle all day in the back of my car.
  25. Good point about buying in winter. This is a great time to buy up here in New England.
