What Happened To All The Fishing Tv Shows

Recommended Posts

I get the Outdoor Network, Sportsman Channel and NBCSN. It seems like over the past two years there are less and less fishing shows on these channels. All I ever see are hunting shows. If I'm lucky I find an old bassmasters or FLW recap but that's about it. What happened to Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston, Hook and Look, Zona Awesome Fishing Show, Lunkerville, the Bass Pros? I loved these shows and learned more than I thought I would.

I think youtube has taken over.

I could see that, I know fishound moved the Scott Martin Challenge to YouTube.

YouTube is awesome for fishing shows. It's not quite as infomercial-like, and there's a ton out there.

The World fishing network channel has tons of shows but you have to pay extra for it I believe, at least with dish network...

I wish cable offered that channel.

Every show I enjoyed watching is on the World Fishing Network. I will have to find a way to get that channel.

I watch reruns of Hank Parker, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston on ESPN sometimes. I wish they had these shows on primetime.

Even the old FISHING HOLE shows with Jerry Mckinnis are good too. He's on early on Saturday mornings.

I owe Hank Parker with showing me my first successful CRANKBAIT. The Mann's baby 1 in browncraw. I call it the Hank Parker Special. Caught bass and salmon on this one.

"Fishing show season" ended about 2 months ago on the channels that normally show them. New years day generally starts the beginning of "fishing show season". MLF, Zona, Bass Pros, and something else all start the first week(ish) of January every year.

I have not seen a legitimate show since about June or July and even those were reruns of Bill Dance and the FLW tour from 2013. It seems like when I find show on the air at 4,5,6 in the morning. What happened to Friday Night Fishing on outdoor or Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin on around 8,9,10 in the morning. I also miss the show Ultimate Match Fishing. I enjoyed that a little bit more than MLF.

I think the Friday night fishing starts at the beginning of the year on the outdoor channel or around that time. Zona is part of that line up so I would assume that's when it resumes its air time. The friday night outdoor line up I think runs for roughly 7(ish) new episodes in consecutive weeks and then has a break and 1-2 new episodes and 1-2 weeks of reruns after that before a 4(ish) month break. Zona airs twice a year so that's when the outdoor channel runs their Friday night fishing line ups. When he's done, its done. UMF is still on TV. I just saw an episode last week. No idea when the new ones air but I much prefer MLF 11 times out of 10 over MLF. The new FLW's ran on NBC sports not too long ago but I don't think there were ever re-ran. They are on my on-demand to rewatch though.

He just told you.  It's hunting season.  Be patient, it happens every year.  Your shows will come back on.

My cable shows are  gone too. What breaks my knot is that they always show them on Saturdays, when most people are out fishing. No wonder they don`t have an audience.

DISH, WFN, and DVR are my best friends when it comes to catching fishing shows. WFN is an extra $4 a month for me, but it's the only channel I watch unless I'm watching football or baseball, so it's worth it.

It just seems like the main channels play hunting shows all year long and all day and fishing shows get a couple months.

Nothing fishing in primetime. Glenn are you listening?

Here's a shot at the big time for BR? Espn primetime?

Interview pros? Educate about seasonal patterns, different lures, different presentations. Tackle maintenance. Do a little bit on each show then spend 10 minutes fishing. The rest is a workshop and interviews.

Change the way fishing show formats are done in the past.

It needs to be in the prime time.

I'm so tired of searching for fishing shows.

We need a better fishing show and less Monday morning quarterback sports shows. All week they rerun last weeks game mistakes. Like who cares. Three Epsn channels of sports going on at the same time. No fishing.

I will agree with you here. Hunting does get way more airtime than fishing on Outdoor and Sportsman. That's why WFN is so great.

I think many of these shows are filmed seasonally and there is lag time between releasing the new episodes.  I get a lot of shows on WFN through Dish Network.

I seemed like if u got up at 6 am u could watch a solid 3 to 4 hours of replay fishing shows all year round. Now it is 24/7 hunting even January through June.
