  1. Sunline FX2. The 50lb is thinner than any of its competitors, it keeps its color the best by far and it's incredibly strong. The winner for sure.
  2. I just got a Curado 70HG for $139.99 on eBay and a ## Fishing O 7'3 MH/F for $70 used on Craigslist in great shape. Killer jig set up for the cost. Spooled with 50lb FX2.
  3. Braid: Sunline FX2 Fluoro: InvizX Mono: Trilene TransOptic
  4. Smallmouth eat anything that move.
  5. I've had absolutely ZERO luck with my perch 90.
  6. Love my KLX, which comes with a 3 year warranty. The Carbon Steel has a one year. They make a great product, there's no doubt about that.. but if you call don't be surprised if Trey picks up the phone. Good people down there who have really turned it on in recent years. I picked up a 7' MH/MF for deep cranking and I love the thing. Can't go wrong with a Kistler!
  7. I've had one since last year and it's great. The dual brakes are a huge advantage for the price point. I've had mine spooled with 10-12lb InvizX the entire time and the castability is really good. I threw a carbon fiber handle on there. I would absolutely recommend it.
  8. I actually held the E6X and Avid back to back at my local Cabela's on Friday. The blank on the E6X is incredible. The taper is d**n near perfect and the weight + balance is phenomenal. With that said, the comfort of the full cork Avid is unmatched. You can't go wrong with either, but I would opt for the Avid because of St. Croix's exceptional customer service.
  9. Believe it or not I found a rod that was in my original post on Craigslist barely used for $65! While I cannot actually name the rod on this site, that should tell you all you need to know. For the price and the condition it's in I couldn't say no. My second go with this model, hopefully it stands up to the abuse. Believe it or not we met at a Cabela's and I got sucked in there after we had finished. Held the E6X and it was very nice, really liked the taper on those rods. First time holding a crucial and the MH felt too heavy and reminded me that I am still no fan of skeleton reel seats. One rod that really stuck out for me was the Avid. Easily the most comfortable of the bunch. I certainly need one in the future. I have to find a way to get a hold of the Daiwa DX. I still think that rod has a lot of potential. Thanks for all the help guys. Sidetrack as you please!
  10. I went out yesterday and didn't have any luck. A neighboring boat got a good ~2.5lb fish. On Wednesday my boss caught a fish that was easily 5+ but I don't know if he'd appreciate me throwing his picture on BR.
  11. My 70HG just arrived. The spool is very shallow and the profile is very small.. Lews-esque. Great little reel right here, hopefully it fishes well.
  12. Ahh, you are correct sir!
  13. Hey Guys, I'm currently hunting for a 7'-7'3" MH/F jig rod that is fairly high quality and has a full cork grip. In searching and reading for days there seems to be a few options that have very few reviews up to this point. I was wondering if one could provide any insight. The five I'm considering are Daiwa DX 7'3" MH/F - This Rod might as well be a ghost. I have not found a single user review with the exception of TackleTour testing out a cranking rod and Ehler making a few vague videos. I like the look, but I'm not sure if this rod is worth $140 aside from the premium components. Dobyns Sierra 733C - I'm aware it is an updated and modified Savvy, which is about the level of rod I would like to be around. However, there has been very little feedback since its arrival. Any input on this stick would be absolutely great. Some others that have tons of reviews and are definitely contenders: Shimano Crucial - I've never been a huge fan of skeleton reel seats but for a jig rod I can see the advantage. The new design is apparently phenomenal but I haven't actually held/fished one. St Croix Avid - Obviously a very popular rod.. They're all in the same general price range and I'm having a hard time picking a rod that will pair up with a Curado 70hg. Anything you guys could provide on the rods mentioned above would be very helpful. If there are any other sticks that check all the boxes that I might've missed feel free to mention them. Thanks
  14. Mine should arrive any day now. I'm really excited. I was looking for a shallow spool, high quality reel that I could use for a ~1/2oz jig outfit. This seems to fit the bill, and being a Lew's guy I'm pumped to try a Shimano for the first time. The only question I have is will it be okay with 30lb braid? I've always used 40 or 50lb but really want to try and downsize for clear water applications. Oh, and not to boast but they can be had for nearly 30% off on eBay, here's the auction I won earlier in the week!
  15. Nor am I.. always had Lew's. However, I was looking for a new jig rod/reel and it was hard to turn down a shallow spool shimano curado at 30% off. I'm excited to at least give it a try. Can't believe I survived the flurry of bids in the last minute!
  16. I've been reading up on the Curado 70s and I'm sure I'll pull the trigger soon. I've always been a Lew's guy. The 200i just doesn't feel great to me, but the 70's design is on the money. I need a new jig reel and the 7.2:1 looks like it'll fit the bill.
