  1. Happy new year everyone! I like to make up my C-Rig snells in advance but I'm struggling to find a decent storage solution. I'm currently using a lindy rig storage spool but they don't work that well with the large offset hooks. Ideas anyone?
  2. All kidding aside, I'm a multi species fisherman so I got it bad. Bass is the worst, followed by Muskie and Walleye. So the count; Bass - 10 (2 spinning/8 casting) should cover everything Muskie - 9 (5 Casting/4 Trolling) Walleye - 7 (2 Spinning/1 Casting/4 trolling) Pike - just use rods from bass and muskie Panfish - don't go there
  3. Done! thanks everyone. Its a Alphas SV with 8lb Yo
  4. Now this makes sense! Thank you Kicker.. :). What line do you recommend?
  5. Please note that towing capacity is inclusive of all cargo, including occupants, luggage, etc. Its a loophole they use to boost towing ratings. For example, your fictional truck has a towing capacity of 5000 lb. Now you add 2 lg adults (500lbs), luggage and gear (another 500 lbs), now your towing/cargo capacity is down to 4000 lbs. Also, boat companies do a similar trick showing that their dry weight is as low as possible. start adding things like fuel, batteries, trailer, spare tire, motors, etc etc. It adds up in a hurry. As others have stated here, just because a vehicle has enough power to pull something, doesn't mean it can stop with that load in motion. Not to mention, that poor subaru will never be the same again...
  6. The traps I throw with this are small and 5.8 should be able to burn them just fine True if I was using mono/floro. I'm thinking about 12lb Kanzen (3lb diameter). Why?
  7. As a followup to my post on the best gear ratio for a Med. power crankbait rod (casting) now I'm faced with even more options (1st world problems abound!) Please help me choose the reel and line so I can get shopping :-D The rod is a EBC71C and its primary use will be small (1/4 oz) jerks, topwaters, sq bills, scatter raps, and rattle traps. Reel short list: Shimano Aldebaran 50 Daiwa Alphas Air 5.8:1 Shimano Stile 5.8:1 Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG 6.5:1 I believe my short list is the Alphas Air or the BFS XG. Convince me otherwise! TIA!
  8. Thanks, the Alphas is now 230 shipped. Creation of this thread has now opened a big can of worms for me...LOL.
  9. Depends on your idea of light. It will be paired with a EBC71C which is rated down to 1/4 oz which is right where I plan to use it. I had the Chronarch spooled with 8lb tatsu and didn't like the performance with baits below 3/8 oz.
  10. I have 7'1", med. power, mod action casting rod and I'm looking for a reel. It was originally equipped with a Chronarch Ci4 which I've subsequently moved over to my MH Crankbait rod as it works better with a little heavier bait. I was originally looking at a Aldebaran 50 but a gently used Alde BFS XG has come across my path. Love the upgrades and the BFGs ability to toss even lighter baits but is the 8:1 too much? This rod will be used primarily for small cranks, jerkbaits, and square bills. Thoughts?
  11. Thank you, wonderful insight. I did forget about the longer rod's ability to cast further and the extra tip will surely help with jigs. Like you I fish many different waters and I have 3 dedicated crankbait rods so this will be for topwater and Jigs. I'll have a look/feel at the 703 and 733 and go from there
  12. I picked up one of those Metaniums on clearance and would like to pair it with a Dobyn's champion. I already have a 734 which I love for all kinds of applications.. What would be the perfect compliment to the 734? Originally I was thinking the 683 because of rod locker limitation but now I can go longer. What are your thoughts? 683C 703C 733c
  13. True but I think the Champ is enough rod for me
  14. Hi everyone, I currently own a 734C paired with a Ci4 HG which I really love. Right now I can get a Metanium HG on sale for a great deal so I'm thinking about a 683C/Met combo to compliment. This 2nd rod has to be under 6'10" for rod locker reasons. Thoughts?
  15. Will do. Just want the lower ratio as its for cranks... I really love the Cronarch Ci4's I have but the Alde is something else..
  16. Agreed. Tuning improves performance, upgrading improves looks and in some cases, performance. What does BFS stand for? I'll check out hedgehog for sure
  17. I'm buying an Aldebaran 50 for my lightweight crank-bait needs and I'm also interested in getting into tuning. I have 3 Ci4's that I'll start tuning once I have done up the Alde.. As the Alde is dark grey I'd like to add some red parts, upgraded bearings, and a new spool (red :)). The idea is to have a rig that I can decently cast 1/4 oz cranks, square bills, small jerks, etc. What should I be looking for? Also, is there a domestic dealer or should I just use japantackle? TIA.
  18. Is the Alderbaron the only answer??? Does anyone else make a comparable reel for this application? I currently have a Ci4 on my Med. power, MF action casting rod and I find it struggles with casting small baits. Mainly smaller jerkbaits, SBs, and RTs that I like to use for smallies. I'm also planning on upgrading my current MH/MF crankbait setup (Mojo Bass/Tatula 100) so i can move the Ci4 over to that. Without having to get into modifying my Ci4 or a Curado 70, what else should I look at.. And no, I'm not really interested in a spinning combo...lol TIA!
  19. In an answer yes it will work fine and thereès a way to protect the cranking battery from discharge. Its call an Automatic Charging Relay. If you want to know how to do it just send me a PM.
  20. I have a Larson FX 1750 (17'6") and its a perfect fit for 2 anglers I've had 3 on a few times and if the guys were good anglers then that worked really well.
  21. If you're fishing out of a boat longer is better. My flippin stick is 7"11" and I love the extra length. I do agree with the 765 choice.
  22. You'd do well upgrading all your rods, your reels seem ok for now. Unfortunately under $100 makes it a challenge so what I recommend is to take the one you like the least and give it a decent upgrade. Fenwick Aetos, St. Croix Avid or Avid X, Dobyn's Savvy. IE replace your #3 with a SS 703C for example. You'll love the upgrade.
  23. I have several St Croix rods, some I love, some I hate. Same goes for fenwick. Personally I would pick fenwick for what you're looking for. St Croix seems to make better bass/muskie rods tho.
