  1. The Curado K will do anything I ask it to do. 3 ratios available in R\L. 200 size spool. All around solid reel. Under $200. Cant speak for the DC. Don't own any, but there are plenty of reviews and opinions available.
  2. The weather is changing, and he's sneaking up on me. Well, it's more like a linebacker with a clear shot to the QB (when you could still hit a QB). I see it coming and I can't stop it. Colors are looking prettier by the day. The leaves, and the lures. My wish list is growing uncontrollably. It seems to be getting worse every year. I'm scared I won't make it to those holiday gift cards and black Friday sales.
  3. Agree with grey for everyday wear. Copper for sight fishing. ^^^Amber is also a good choice, as stated above. Works well in low light conditions.
  4. Ah, yes. I work 2nd shift and cross my fingers that UPS will arrive before I have to leave, so she doesn't come home from her 9-5 to another rod tube on the porch...
  5. I'm still trying to find a rod line that I can stick with. I have black ones, green ones, silver ones. Eva handles, cork, winn grips. White reels, black reels, silver reels. Clear line, green line, yellow line. The possibilities are many lol.
  6. Sometimes, in the winter, I'll put my reels on different rods... Just to see what they look like.
  7. @geo g @Fishes in trees is there a particular Frogg Togg model you suggest? I'm seeing a lot of different options, but it looks like I would have to order them.
  8. I'm in PA. But if it's too cold I have a separate coat for snow/ice
  9. Holidays are rolling around and my better half saw me browsing for a new rain jacket. She is tired of buying me gift cards for holidays (although that's all I ever ask for) and wants to get a gift she can actually give me. I have no problem paying a couple/few hundred bucks because it gets its use, and I understand how staying dry can impact a day on the water. She thinks that's too much, when there are cheaper alternatives. So, not knowing exactly what her budget is, does anyone have any suggestion on a quality, affordable jacket for rain/wind? P.S. I usually go a size up and layer underneath for cooler weather, but it is important that it be breathable for the warmer months. Thanks in advance!
  10. I don't think I own any spinnerbaits that aren't War Eagle. I realize this is an older post but for this time of year (fall) I have a lot of confidence in the Double Willow Screamin Eagle in 1/2 oz. Little bit smaller profile and stays down well even at faster retrieve. I saw the finesse 5/16 and thought about trying them. Is it even smaller than the Screamin eagle? What are the biggest difference you see? I've not fished that particular blade combo. Do you change blades, or fish it stock?
  11. Went out today with bluebird skies in the middle of the afternoon. Had some luck under what I understand to be called a "cheese" mat. It was a combo of older dying vegetation, some stringy stuff, some good looking grass and some foamy crap binding it all together. Those are my technical terms and I'm sticking to it. No luck on the top, I had to drop a rage bug through it to get bit. Only shade they really have that time of day on my local lake.
  12. Yes! Got a guide lined up for Wednesday, and tickets for the game Thursday night.
  13. @Dens228 I agree, mono will get the job done. In fact, that's all I've ever thrown spinnerbaits on. Actually, I've never thrown moving baits on braid, but I've read a lot of different opinions on it. Figure this is a good time to try it out. The theory makes sense.
  14. It's finally here (almost). Flights and room are booked and I will be headed to the Austin area at the end of the month for my first Texas fishing adventure! I'm looking forward to this as a learning experience, with the hopes to get one big bite. Hope to see some of y'all out on the water!
  15. I'm playing around with making the switch to braid/leader set up for spinnerbaits. I don't believe the visibility makes any difference for me on a moving bait, but I prefer to have the leader as a shock absorber. Right now I'm playing around with mono, but have also considered copoly or fluoro for a leader. It's something I will continue to play around with, but I'm curious... For those of you who do fish braid to leader on spinnerbaits, what your preferred leader?
  16. @Fishes in trees I'm in PA so no academy for me. I picked up a Dobyns Fury 734 at Field and Stream and took it out yesterday. It's going to work well. I actually prefer a little length on my spinnerbait rods. But, thanks for the recommendation. I'm traveling to Texas at the end of the month and hope to check out an academy while I'm there.
  17. Ask, and you shall receive. Rod handled it's first fish with no problem ?
  18. @Derek1 I picked up a Fury 734 today. Seems like it's going to make for a pretty good spinnerbait rod. I'll find out for sure tomorrow.
  19. Found myself at field and stream today and picked up a Dobyns Fury 734. Got it for $100 w/ a coupon. Prob end up being a spinnerbait/chatterbait/senko rod. Checking out a Powell Max for the heavier stuff.

Haven't tried those, yet, but the Net Bait Paca Chunk? Jig trailers in Flippin' Blue takes a black/blue jig to the next level.
  21. Large handle with comfortable grips. Does it feel solid, or cheap? Any chatter, vibration or grinding when you turn the handle? Weight - is it going to wear me out if I'm on it 8 hours straight? I put them on a rod if I can... BIG one for me... If the side plate comes off that can be a deal breaker. I tend to shy away from the "newest" model, as the test of time is tough for a reel that's only been on the market a few months.
  22. Great... Thanks to you and @NHBull I'm going to have to buy 2 of each.
  23. Dobyns Fury/Sierra Powell Endurance/Max* *I can get the max for less than retail So, wait until Sunday and then buy 2. I like your logic.
  24. Looking for another jig/pitching rod. Something around 7'3". 3/8oz being the lightest lure I would throw and maxing out at about 1oz. Interested in Powell and Dobyns, but I've not used either. Looking at models from $120-$150. Which company would you choose? Thanks!
  25. My biggest concern when I'm on the water is comfort and sun protection. To me, they are much more important than what other people think. That being said, be prepared to answer a few extra questions when wearing it, as the average angler might assume you have a KVD level of knowledge ?. It can really cut into your fishing time!
