Famous/Popular/Mainstay lures that you have stopped using and what you have replaced them with and why did you change?
Bandit 100's. I can't explain why I moved away from them other than it was hard to get a hook that didn't inhibit the action and would hold up. They are great baits and I have about two dozen and haven't thrown one in years. I have Crush 50's and KVD 1.5's ties on all the time now.

Your tips and tricks
Make sure the little ball in your whistle flows freely. When it's really windy and feeling a dropshot or tube is difficult, switch to a Carolina rig and a finesse lizard and drag it. The strikes can be so hard, the fish hook themselves. This has saved many a trip for me.

SV103 - How many do you own?
I have one. It is such a fine reel, like the OG Zillion, that it baffles me why it never received more praise. I love mine.

What Is Your Strangest, Unintended Catch
I was fishing for sea bass several years ago and caught a wolf eel. Google them, they are nasty creatures. I've also hooked silvers and chinook on crank baits. My buddy hooked a seven foot sturgeon. After an hour it finally broke off.

Help Identifying Lure
Poes made a similar lure at one time. I had two but can't find them. Try Poes.

That one thing you never thought you needed...
High quality rain gear. I spent years fishing cheap rain wear and suffered for it. It doesn't have to rain to have value and make a day out on the water more comfortable. On the flip side, sun wear is just as important, gloves, buff and so on.

Solar Eclipse party
Tongue and cheek boys, tongue and cheek. As a former Oregon resident I am aware of the lunacy the state will apply to gain revenue.

Solar Eclipse party
The state of Oregon is quickly trying to pass a bill that will tax non residents who wish to observe the eclipse. I think they want to declare the entire state a park for the day. I plan to celebrate by watching Apocalypto on cable.

Dobyn's Colt Series
A friend of mine works for a pretty good size sporting goods chain and the Sierra series and Fury series have done very well for them overall. Dobyns has a history of strong dealer relationship so if dealers ask for a product, I can see Dobyns meeting the request. I don't see Gary Dobyns compromising his reputation with a product that doesn't cut it. The proof will be in the pudding so to speak.

Bread & butter technique
On the Columbia, pre spawn with a mid depth crankbait worked over current breaks. That's the bread. Home lake, pre spawn pitchin plastics to buck brush and hard targets. That's the butter.

Low cost Daiwa Reviews (at least a very tough weekend of fishing).
I can't think of another time when bass fisherman had the incredible gear selection available today. I lost track long ago, of how many reels I have bought, sold and or traded. I love the " stuff." During the past 40 years I've had two reels that were a true disappointment and soured me and they were both Diawa. I gave Diawa another chance four plus years ago with the Tatula 100 ( deep discount ) and now I am pleased to say my last several casting reels have been Diawas and all have been impressive. I plan on grabbing an 8.1 and figure the Tatula SV will be the model of choice. We win.

Oh memories.
My wife was going through some old photos the other day and pulled this one out. This was me and my buddy Ken in my first bass boat, a 1972 Terry Basser. It now sits in a field covered in black berry vines rotting away. The memories I and several other guys made in this boat is countless. My Mann's hover hat is a give away to the period. Simpler times. I almost wish I still had it to fish out of. Almost.

Is it normal to not catch anything?
With 1200 views on this post, others must really want to know. I am the original skunk dawg. It happens. Evaluate where you're fishing and when and take a look at the lure selection. Experiment. You will get it. Many years ago I put in five eight hour days in the early spring. It was cold. Not one bite. It made me more determined than ever. Try to learn from every outing. It's fishing.

Well I have embraced the flipping stick
The 766 is a beast. If you want a rod to boat flip an eight with, you got it. Very balanced. Just be ready for power, power and more power. You can punch up to 1.5 oz. no problem if that's your thing too. Enjoy.
