Navionics Web App Symbol Help
Looking at your first picture I would say they clear cut that point but left the stumps. Yeah, I wouldn't be running across it unless I had graphed it extensively. If the stumps are still there it may be an excellent place to fish.

Navionics Web App Symbol Help
Where on Lake Anna is this spot? All the lakes I have that have these symbols give me a description of the obstacle.

Navionics Web App Symbol Help
The Navionics app will tell you what it is. Put the ++++++ area in the center of the screen. Tap it once and the cross hairs will come up. Press the ? Symbol and the next screen should show "Obstruction" at the bottom. Select "Obstruction" and is will tell you what it is. Works that way on my iPhone. On your computer place the mouse inside the area you want to see and do the same thing. They are not all obstructions but also restricted areas, i.e. "Information: elk creek boat access restricted to residents only".

The wrong 4
Expanding the playoffs might be okay but then it would go from 3 games to 7 (4 teams to 8). That might not be too bad as it would only extend the season 1 weekend. Expand it further and turn the bowl games into playoffs. There are already 40-some bowl games, kinda like giving out participation trophies. Maybe next year there will be the Bass Resource Fish Bowl.

The wrong 4
Having OSU in the final four was like Ronda Rousey being ranked the #1 contender after not fighting for over a year. Makes no sense.

Star Wars Rogue One - Anybody See It?
I liked it once I was able to figure out where it fit in the Star Wars scheme of things. Initially thought it was a continuation of SW VII but it's not. Gives a bit of clarity on how the whole Rebellion thing started and how the plans ended up in R2D2. Some of the rebellion star fighter pilots look very familiar, as though they used film from the cutting room floor from the original Star Wars. It's been 40 years they haven't aged a day...LOL. Wish I could say the same. One website shows there are at least two more (VIII and IX) due out in the next three years. Carrie Fisher is in the next one, having completed filming before she died. That will be kind of odd to see.

Lure retrievers
A friend of mine made me a retriever. It has about a 1 to 1 1/2 lb 6-7" round bar stock with 3 eyelets welded to it (one closed on the top, 2 opened on the sides). 4 chains are welded to the bottom. If the retriever doesn't initially knock the lure loose the chains will snag the hooks. Use it on 50' of 1/4" rope. Must needed when throwing big, expensive ($25+) Muskie lures in timber. Can't tell you how many it has already saved for me. But it is a challenge to use it when alone...juggling a rod, the retriever and trolling motor. Fun stuff.

Favorite species (outside of bass)
Muskie, Crappie, Saugeye. Muskie are stocked (but also reproduce) as are Saugeye. Saugeye are a hatchery-produced hybrid made from a cross between a female walleye and a male sauger that are particularly well-suited for Ohio reservoirs. Each year, the Division of Wildlife stocks more than 7 million saugeye in more than 70 reservoirs. (ODNR website)

First encounter with a gator
Just roll them over on their back and rub their belly. They like that and it makes them sleepy.

Is bass fishing done up north??!!
Lake was 41-42 degs yesterday. No ice except on the north facing banks. Rain and upper 50s expected this weekend into Monday. Water was pretty stirred up from all the rain last weekend. A lot of crap floating that was washed into it as well. Looks like the water came up 18-22" then was dropped back to winter pool. Some coves had ice rings on the stumps. Hope to get back out next week.

Is power pro much better than spiderwire?
I started using Spiderwire braid a few years ago and it was good stuff. Layed off fishing for a while and dug my feels back out last year. Same line, didn't change it. Still works fine. Got into Muskie fishing and loaded SW Stealth on three Abu Garcia reels. Wish I hadn't. The new line is not as smooth and seems to break easily (50#). I backlashed a few times then had the line snap 20-30 feet into a cast. Not once but 3-4 times. Seems to fray much easier too. In the process of switching them all over to Power Pro. Casts better and doesn't seem to backlash as badly (I know backlashing is not the line's fault). Line shouldn't break like the SW has done, though.

Have You Ever Forced Yourself To Reel Opposite Hand?
All my spinning reels were left hand retrieve. When I got my first baitcaster it was right hand (won in a raffle). Could not get used to it. Bought left hand models and still do. Also, no one who I fish with can use them. ;-)

Favorite Shimano Casting Reel?
All of the left hand Bantams from the '80s I'm still using. 101s, 251s, etc. Still working reel well. ;-)

Getting Older
Lots of good ideas being discussed in this thread. Auto inflate vests, ladders, ropes, motor trim. On my older bassboat (which sat very low to the water) I used a rope with multiple loops tied in it and slipped over the rear seat post as a "ladder". My new boat sits much higher but has a factory installed boarding ladder. Wish it was on the port side though as that is the side with the trim switch on the motor. I don't have an auto inflate vest but do wear my regular vest all day. Even with the higher gunnels I've had a couple times when I thought I was going into the water. Not sure I trust the auto inflate models to do what they are supposed to do each and every time. I might consider one when the temps climb back up since a full vest is way too hot in the summer. I keep a spare set of dry clothes in one of those plastic vacuum bags in one of my storage compartments. Full insulated suit, wool socks, gloves and hat all shrink down flat. Hopefully, I'll never need it for myself or someone else. Balance is ok, legs and back have a couple issues but nothing show stopping at this time (I get shots in my Lumbar every few months). I usually fish alone like a bunch on here so having a dock to get in /out is almost mandatory. I have climbed up and over the bow and TM but it is not that easy. Looking for a decent set of bow steps that wont break the bank. Tracker has them for Targas but you need a hull ID to get one. All the rest that are tall enough are $400+. I'll just use my small step ladder for the time being. I guess the alternative to not fishing and putting up with all our aches and pains would be to sit home in front of a keyboard and complain about our aches and pains. ;-)

Cabelas and BPS merger delayed
A lot of changes going on with or without the merger. Stopped by my "local" Lowe dealer (45 mins away) yesterday to talk about service and stuff. They are/were a Stratos dealer but just picked up Bass Cat. Said JM is looking to end the Stratos line so they needed a new boat line to sell. Also, that JM is looking to cut Lowe from the Cabelas stores which would be a bad thing for Lowe. Apparently (according to this dealer), Cabelas accounts for 25% of the Lowe brand. Losing Cabelas would put Lowe in a hole unless the dealer network were able to pick up the 25%. But, that being said, Lowe is owned by Brunswick which is a huge company itself so who knows. Spreading the 25% loss from Cabelas may open new doors for Lowe. The only Cabelas I had been to prior to them opening one 5 miles from my house is the one in Wheeling, WV. Place is HUGE. Our's...not so much. About the size of Dicks or F&S. Stuff stacked in the aisles kinda like KMart around the holidays. I still go there a lot but their selection on boating accessories is dismal. Fishing accessories is hit or miss but what they don't have BPS usually does (20 mins the other direction and moving closer).

What do you do in the off-season?
Shoot more archery. Tournaments start in January. Didn't hunt last year and probably won't this year. Trying to fish up until the lakes freeze but once it gets below the mid-30s it's kind of difficult. I'll spend a ton of time online and trying to get my gear/boat ready for spring.

Cabelas and BPS merger delayed
Several sports sites are reporting that the merger between Cabelas and BPS is on hold due to regulatory requirements. May be quite a bit longer before they are under the same roof. Some say not till late next year. Who knows for sure...

This would be a really, really bad day.
I know what I'm getting you for Christmas... ;-)

You need a new bow mount motor!
It's a new MK prototype. Has a catapillar drive like "Red October". Fish can't hear it. Unfortunately, it uses the same battery packs that come in a Tesla.

reducing guides icing up
I don't use WD40 on anything when it is freezing. WD40 freezes. Found out the hard way after spraying my truck cap locks before hunting in the WV mountains. Froze up big time. Had to use a propane torch to melt out the ice.

Upgrading electronics in my new boat
Nothing wrong with putting a side scan transducer on your TM. Mine works fine. Just need to understand that the image will shift when turning the TM, though. Easy to get used to. But there are a couple of companies that offer transducer mounts that you can use up front that will keep the transducer stationary.

Your 2017 Fishing Goals
Get better with my electronics including boat control with the TM. Fish at least one weekend a month every month. I have other hobbies and activities that need attention as well. Catch a 40+ inch musky. Finally catch a limit of bass from my local reservoir. Get away from the bank and learn to fish in water deeper than 15'. Take the time to set my new boat up to be more efficient and more productive. Have fun on the water.
