  1. It doesn't seem to matter, after a while the all hooks will scratch the paint off the bottom of the lures. The sharper the hooks the faster they seem to scratch the paint. But of course, you want sharp hooks.
  2. I had a nice combo go over once. Came back the next day with four catfish rods with big treble hooks and heavy weights to try to retrieve the combo. Two hours of trolling and drifting through the area resulted with nothing. I finally just gave up.
  3. I usually throw my spinnerbaits on a 5.2:1 or 5.5:1 gear ratio reel. More torque to move the spinnerbait. Way less resistance.
  4. Fishing is fishing. It's all fun. No matter what you catch.
  5. ^^^^ seems like a great deal
  6. I used braid on some of my older shimano spinning reels from the early 90's and have no issues. Some dont even have the larger line rollers. What techniques were you using with the reel that you had problems with. Slack line techniques will normally cause more headaches due to uneven winding on the spool.
  7. Probably the same reason carp jump. Maybe to get rid of parasites or something. I have caught mullets on bread balls before. Just make little bread balls around a small hook and throw it to the school. They'll hit it as its slowly sinking.
  8. I would get a 7' to 7'6" med hvy or hvy spinning rod. I would probably use 30 pound braid in a bright green or yellow.
  9. Can I ask what models of daiwa and shimano you tried in the past to give you the judgment of a larger uncomfortable reel? It can give us an idea of what to compare them to.
  10. I assume you are referring to the spinning rod. I like the rod. I find the sensitivity is good and the rod is very light weight. Paired up with a light weight reel the combo feels great in the hands. Its a very versatile rod. I use it for neds, shaking heads, drop shots, small jerkbaits and spinners. Pretty much any finesse application.
  11. I have several of the procyon spinning rods and they are decent for the money. You can find them for around $60 online.
  12. I believe those 200D handles were 84mm long. The handles on the 300E were 90mm long, if i remember correctly. I think the 300E handle should fit the 200D. The 300E knobs are not right or left hand oriented, so it should work for both sides.
  13. When I use to only use mono, I never gave it much thought to use the KVD line conditioner. Once I started using fluro, its pretty much a necessity. Then I found it works well on mono too. Now I spray it on pretty much all my lines. It does make mono softer and more easy to manage. Even light lines like 4 and 6 lbs are less prone to line twist now.
  14. Are you fishing from shore or a boat? Because its rare that I ever lose a crankbait from a boat.
  15. From my experience the KVD line conditioner does help. It will make mono a little more manageable.
  16. I know alot of people on here aren't too fond of Lews, but I see a lot of there rods and reels on the decks of boats where i live. Their bright colors litter the deck of many older and younger anglers' boats here. Lews must be doing something right to appeal to the masses.
  17. I don't have the fuego, but I would assume the fuego would be the best, since it is the most expensive. I has magseal, while none of the others do. As for everything else under $100 from daiwa, they are pretty much all the same. All share similar parts that can be swapped out for the most part. I've actually be very pleased with my revros 2000 LT. It seems to be more smooth than the other LT reels. It is heavier though and the frame is thicker than the others.
  18. The C stands for compact. It should have the same size body as the regular 2500.
  19. I have two aldebaran mg7 in my line up along with two core 50mg7. Awesome reels.
  20. To me the biggest factor is rod weights. The newer rods are so much light than rods from years ago. Many of today's rods are going for the minimalist design. Better guides, smaller handles and thinner blanks. I feel like today's lower end rods are better than most of yesterday's higher end ones. Pretty much true for reels too.
  21. The weight and feel of the hypermag reminds me alot of the 2016 shimano metanium. It sits lower on the rod and has that light airy feeling while turning the handle. The Pro TI has a slightly more robust feel in hand and feels slightly more solid. I cant place a shimano reel that feels like the Pro TI. The Custom lite SLP palms kinda like the old shimano chronarch 50mg but retrieves like the aldebaran 50. Thats my best explanation for this model. Its light weight but not silky smooth like the other lews. Probably due to the vibrations coming through the carbon frame. I also believe all three of these reels have aluminum main gears.
  22. Don't be afraid to branch out. I'm a shimano guy as well, and while I like my shimanos, I do have three lews in my mix. I have a Lews pro TI, Hyper Mag, and custom lite slp. I've had the pro TI and Hyper mag for awhile now and like them so far. I've only had the custom lite slp for a few months, but so far I like it too. No issues with any of them. For the money, I think they are great reels. Considering I didn't and wouldn't pay full price for any of them, they are a good value in my book.

I use them all the time. I throw them along with shad raps. Pretty much a rattling shad rap. I really like the smaller #4 and #5 for early spring crappies. It can slay them when crappie move up into shallow wood cover.
  24. Texas rig weightless 5" senko style worm, Texas rig 10" culprit worm, 3/8 oz SK jig, deep diver H20 crankbait, H2O squarebill, 1/2 oz blade bait, rebel pro model Pop R.
