  1. You may also want to consider the weight of the reels. These reels are so light they may not balance well on a longer rod. Personally I would choose the 2000 size because I like smaller reels. My drop shot rod is the 6'10" expride ml spinning. A 5.3 oz 2000 size Vanford would be a delightful reel for it.
  2. Cetain varieties can be worth some decent cash in Japan. The are bred for their patterns and color. They have koi competitions there to see who has the best fish. Kinda like dog shows here.
  3. Kind of big to be a goldfish. Looks like a gold colored Koi to me. One of the long fin variety. Possibly a butterfly koi. Koi are pretty much just colorful carp.
  4. Both are fairly small framed reels. I think the aldebaran is just a slightly smaller. As stated above, way lighter though. Both reels palm pretty good.
  5. I've tried a few and its hit or miss. Sometimes they work ok. Sometimes not. The double bladed versions are a joke. Dont waste your money. Stick of name brands and you probably be better off. I prefer roostertails myself.
  6. I haven't tried the shallow version yet. But i do like the deep version. I'll throw it side by side with the shad rap to see what the fish want.
  7. I have one of those greenie curado 200b and a citica 200b. Both are still super smooth.
  8. Its not the bearings that make the knob tighter. Its the shims. You can order extra shims and tighten up just about any screw in type knob. Shimano and daiwa both use the same size.
  9. I think the bantam is better suited for power fishing techniques: Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, frogs, buzzbaits. It's a smooth casting and retrieving reel for sure, but it's a little heavier than most of today's other reels. That's why I only use mine for power fishing techniques. I prefer lighter reels for the more finesse and bottom contact techniques, where more sensitivity is required.
  10. I have both reels. For finesse, I would go with the tatula. It's a lighter weight reel. Also, it seems to take less inertia to turn the handle. While very smooth, the stradic FL needs a little more push it get the handle turning. But it does feel a little more solid. Both are good reels and should serve you well. You can also wait to get a new Vanford as well. I'm sure it will be a great reel.
  11. I was stream trout fishing a few weeks ago and had to rethread line through my rod guides. Somehow missed the last three guides completely but went through the tip. Didn't realize the issue until I went to cast and retrieve. I wasn't thinking clearly
  12. A lot of Bass Pro shops and Cabelas spinning reels are made by Daiwa. I have two of the Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 spinning reels and they are the same as my Daiwa LT reels
  13. In the rod locker rods get rod sleeves and reels get reel covers. On the deck of the boat, to and from the lake, reels get reel covers. Once on the water, which ever reels get used, loses the reel cover until time to come back in.
  14. I have two 30 mgls. I use one for jerkbaits and the other for light topwaters. The jerkbait one, I have 12 lbs fluro on. If i make a long cast with a 1/2 oz jerkbait i am getting close to the bottom. But i never felt like i would completely run out of line. The topwater one i only have 8 lbs mono on. I usually only throw 1/4 to 3/8 oz poppers on it. No issues with line capacity there. I guess, it really just depends on what line and how you plan to fish the reel.
  15. The 30 size spool is definitely alittle more shallow. I'm not sure why the line ratings are listed like that. Its seems a little confusing. On my 50 box is says 10 -100m, 12 - 80m, 14 - 70m. My 50 is not a mgl version. My 30 mgl box has no line ratings.
  16. You can ask in the Flea market section to see if anybody has one. Or you can call daiwa. They should have one.
  17. I'm a shimano fan boy but I think daiwa spinning reels look so much better. To me, most of shimano's current line up is ugly and heavy compared to my daiwas. I am a fan of the smaller daiwa LT reels. I only have 1000 and 2000 size reels in both shimano and daiwa. My reels with the lowest start up inertia are my two stradic 1000ci4+ 5.0 gear ratio. Turning their handles require little effort. My tatula 2000 LT is also very easy to turn. I want to try some JDM daiwas but I'm not crazy about their spool sizes. It seems most reels from Japan are shallow spool versions. I don't want a deep spool but don't want a shallow spool either. I wish more reels came with a medium depth spool.
  18. How does the new handle shape feel? How does it compare to the old Zodias?
  19. These reels are still in production today. They are still on tackle warehouse and daiwa's website. Not sure why people think they are out of production. You can usually find a used one for around $60 in good shape.
  20. I have my hyper mag on a 6'9" med light phenix that i use mainly for blade baits. I have occasionally thrown smaller jerkbaits on it. I personally like the reel. It cast great and retrieves smoothly. I think you'll have a nice combo paired up with the megabass.
  21. I would go for the chronarch G. Sooner or later the magnesium frame will corrode. It's just a matter of time.
  22. Not to hijack the post but I use mine for t-rigs. I haven't tried it for crankbaits but feels a little stiff for cranking to me. To me it feels more like a fast action.
  23. I can't remember the last time I bought a rod or reel from a local store. I find most of my stuff online. Usually much better deals and much more selection. Not to mention the sales sections of many forums. Many good deals there too.
  24. I haven't felt the P5 yet but I have two Conquests- 844, 843. I'm actually not impressed by the Conquest. I was just expecting a little more. I do have two poison adrena- 7'2 hvy, 7'3 med hvy. I'm totally impressed with them. Very nice rods for the money. I sold a megabass fmj and daemos to buy the poison adrena rods-No regrets. You should try the new P5 to see how they compare. I'm sure they are nice.
  25. Regular plastics will not normally absorb the gulp juice. Gulp products are porous and can absorb the juice. Therefore can also dry out.
