Call me crazy but while I was watching the Bassmaster coverage on ESPN this past sat. of the Diamond Drive I noticed that early in the program KVD was fishing out of a traditional single console Nitro Z-9 bass boat then later on in the show he was bringing fish into a Z-9 CDC center console boat....What is up with that? Was there an extra film day for KVD during the production week to get footage of him catching fish???? Harshman

I use the palm cutters seen on that same page, smaller and easier to use in my opinion. I usually cut the spure off then turn the cutters cross way to the cut I just made and use them to cut off any excess I may have missed. Kind of works like using a knife if I do it right, but there are always still a few I have to file. another trick I use is take a block of wood, wrap it in low grit sandpaper (a grit paper you might wet sand a painted car with). That way you can leave it lay on the table and while you are cutting sand the jig using one hand on the jig instead of having to control both hands with separate items. Harshman

Sounds like you are heating the jigs up to much before you dip them. Personally I use a toaster oven to heat my jigs before dipping, you get much more evenly heated jig head than with a flame, second you still want the paint to look powdery after dipping not glossy, the paint should stick to the head and not brush off easily, if it does clean it off and start over. You might find that a 1/4 oz jig might take 1 min to pre-heat and an 3/8 oz might take 2 min. you have to experiment but keep good notes that you can refer to later if you are painting the same jigs later on. If your jig is glossy you had the jig head to hot and have to much paint sticking to the head now which can lead to coning problems when you cure. Last I cure the jigs in the toaster oven for the recommended time and heat on the jar of paint, not using their specs might be what is baking your paint and turning it colors. Harshman

A hunt in Pike County is always great.........except I already hunt there on my Grandfathers farm, only problem is he leases it out so I get second pickings when it comes to stands....and my sister-in-law works at harpos as a cook so I could probably get in there any time I wanted to on a down day....small world you suggesting that :D Now a Caribou hunt might be fun, I never thought of that And as far as a hunt with Tiffany...I'll be hunting with Tracy...my wife so that is more than likely out of the question. And yes her buck this year had more points but the one I shot had a higher score I also like the Iowa idea, it wouldn't be much of a drive for me, I live in Pike County Missouri only 1 1/2 hours from the Iowa border, Lots of good deer where I normally hunt in a season but I want that once in a life time antlered encounter. All good suggestions so far...I realize the hunt might be limited on this kind of budget that is why I am asking for help and or advice of places some of you might have hunted in the past I would prefer to hunt archery or rifle seasons where ever I end up. I think I am leaning toward an elk or white tail hunt for sure just not sure where. Thanks Harshman

I got a Christmas gift for a hunting trip out of state to shoot something with antlers. $7500 budget for three people to hunt. I am not opposed to a large game farm and or the hunt would need to be guided. Where would you go for a once in a lifetime hunt one a budget? Thanks Harshman

or you can use a flat screw driver and spin the shaft that opens when you raise the lever, it should have a slot for this, it will push the debris out of the way, be careful if you insert anything back through the pour hole, there is a lot of molten lead on the other side just waiting to come out. GMAN hit it righ ton the nose for what you need to get started. The only thing I would add is start small and get creative with your color patterns.It also doesn't have a second job to finance the hobby ;D ;D Tackle making is very addicting and will drain your bank account. I second the fishingskirts.com for a source to get skirting material .His selection is huge. Once you pour and mess up a few you will learn very quickly what to do the next ones to make them right. And always follow the saftey procedures no matter what, even if you find it faster and easier not to follow the rules. You are dealing with a substance that can severly burn you during pouring as well as make you very ill after handleing if your body doesn't like high lead levels. Not to try and scare you because jig making is very rewardingespically after you land that lunker on your own jig. the Corp of Engineers predicts a crest on Wednesday of 631.....25 feet above normal pool and about 20 feet above where she was a week ago. The Bud Light is scheduled for this weekend.......bet it will be cancelled. Harshman

Yep sounds like the mix was a little off. Try and overcoat it with another coat...might work. I have lost a few baits to this happening before. Harshman

If you get some epoxy in the eye use a drill bit after drying to clean it out. If you are making a swimbait try using some fishing line from the front eye and some line fron the rear hook eye and hold the line in opposite hands while spinning it slowly horizontilly. harshman

For the best looking finish you need to turn the bait as it dries. the epoxy will try and self level causing it to pool at the lowest point. You can brush it on however and the self leveling properties take out the brush strokes. The baits dry best when spun slowly. I wouldn't thin the epoxy as it will make it run even worse. If you have a little spare time after applying the epoxy you can turn the bait by hand for 10-15 minutes then hang it. Most of the curing will have taken place by then and it shouldn't run as bad. One more tip if you aren't already using it make sure you get the 30 minute ten ton devcon expoy and not the five minute. The 30 minute looks better after it cures. Harshman

Weither it is legal to keep him as a pet or not, was he long enough to keep out of the water in the first place? Where I'm from they have to be at least 12" long or you put them back into the water........keeping a short fish is illegal weither you are going to make him a pet of supper. I like the idea of studing a fish out of his environment but I'd do a little more homework before just bringing one home and throwing him in a tank that you have not prepared for him to live in. Heck drop a stick in the tank or something give the dude something to hide by. Harshman

The method Rw posted is by far the best way to remove a deep hook. I have used this several times and it works very effectivly. I don't agree with cutting the line and letting them go, I'm not sure how a hook would "pass" through a fish with minimal damage. I know it wouldn't pass through me easily. I have even caught a few in the past with hooks hanging out their rear end and looked like it was going no get out any time soon. But I guess if you think you are going to kill the fish by trying to remove the hook then at least cutting the line would give it a fighting chance. just my two cents Harshman
