  1. nice fish and welcome
  2. Same situation with me I fish ponds all lot but not have much time. Texas Rigging is a must for ponds and I find Texas Rig very effective and my go to stratgey. A HUGE mistake people make when they first try to learn Texas Rig they put on a 8-10 inch worm. Start out with a 6 INCH worm. I assure you this will bring bites. Setting up your Texas Rig is crucial. I go with a 1/8 OZ Water Gremlin Slip Sinker. You can find these at virtual any tackle store or a Walmart. Then for hooks a size 3-5 Offset Hook (company for me doesn't matter). Then attach your 6 inch worm. For Worm Choices, Pumpkin Seed, any Dark green color, Motor Oil, and other dark colors I use for worm choices. Texas Riging is worked slowly and when you go out know that your retrive is not like other hard baits. With 6 Inch Worms you will not catch 8lb bass, but you will catch numbers and as you become better at Texas Rig you can up your worm size. To work the Texas Rig, it takes a different tecquince than hard baits. After you cast let the worm sink to the bottom. After the worm hits the bottom lift your rod up and the worm will follow. After that lower your rod to have to worm sink back down. Depending on the day the speed of your retrive matters. This will build you confidence and eventually Texas Rig can be passed down to your kids once you have mastered the Texas Rig.
  3. white or a clear color
  4. I always catch and release and part of that is because I fish ponds. Catch and Relase is a must. My friend caught a 8lb bass out of a pond then threw it back. Release the fish so you can catch it again. Let'm go Let'm grow
  5. deadsticking, wacky rig, texas rig, all work. I don't use topwater during winter. Articfcal worms that are a darker color are my prefered choice during the late winter
  6. welcome to BR
  7. It was sad seeing the truck dive into the water. Probably spooked some prespawning bass. Bummer
  8. What ever the fish weight was of the bass JG caught it was his personal best. If it was his PB then great, no need to take away from the big bass that JG caught.
  9. Frogs work from the spawn to fall. How late into fall depends on where you live. Frogs are not very effective in the prespawn because most bass will not hit topwater. Frogs can be used in the summer and during those late summer nights they are effective. The best time for frogs is the fall/latesummer. Bass tear up frogs in the summer and they will hit hard and soft body frogs.
  10. nice same problem here in NC ponds been skunked multiple times. Just like you I tried senko and it worked. NIce fish and good luck for this year for you
  11. Fly Fishing with a 6wt would be fine for bluegill and slabs. Also you should try to catch grass carp on the fly. If your getting a 6wt I would totally recommend fly fishing for carp because the fight is insane!
  12. White would be my recommendation. If you are targeting soft platics frogs you could also pick up Ribbits https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-FROGS.html?from=basres Both Ribbets and Horney toads work. For another color choice would be Pumpkin Seed or a Dark Green. The trade off I find between Horney Toad and Ribbit is that Horney Toads last longer and Ribbits I find have a better Garlic scent
  13. from someone that dosen't have to deal with a "Pike Problem" your Problem seems like a good one my 2 cents
  14. This is a absolute must. Also you could throw on a soft swim bait. The bass chases after your jig and swimbait which is a two for one. For different seasons mix up your jig colors and your !Trailer Colors!
  15. A couple goals for 2016 1 Go shore fishing from the beach to catch southern flounder 2 Catch a bass over 5lbs 3 Find new Honey Holes 4 Spend more time on Bass Resource
  16. I have last years model and Cabelas has good deals. I would check Cabelas to see if they have any of last years models left. I heard they made some changes to the rod dealing with the weight. The mojo bass is a good medium rod. It is a very strong rod and pretty well balanced. Mojo Bass is one of St. Croix best rod lines and they their recent versions are all great. The new rod is more senstive to the bite and is lighter. And yes the rods are made in Mexico.
  17. For a good simple buisness for you in Flordia would be to take kids/vets to local ponds. You could almost become a babysitter in the summer with kids and fish with them at local ponds and teach them how. Plus you could fish youself. Also look for local kids in your area ex- make flyers. And make sure you have a good reputation in your area. But flyers and giving interest to parents would be good. You could make extra cash and teach kids what your passion.
  18. this would be great! Hopefully we can get a pond/bank form Admins please create this forum
  19. Sorry scaleface to clarify I mean by pushing down the button on the bait caster to see how the carp bites. Sorry for the confusion and wrong termology
  20. It was such a good episode tonight. One of the best so far in the series and completely addicted. Only sad part is when Rick and his gang lit the pond on fire. Could of Bass fished in the pond bummer
  21. For grass carp I would recommed using a size 5 or 4 offset hook. For your bait I would have the bait on the hook wieght less. Then for bait I would either use bread or corn. (cernals of corn (frozen corn works fine)) If you are using corn let it sink to the bottom. If using bread you can either let the bread set flat on top of the water. Or you can make the bread more compact and let it sink to the bottom. Carp are very careful for what they bite and they are aware of their surroundings. Don't walk up to the bank and start casting if you do that you can scare carp and they will distrub the surroundings. Do not make a lot of noise either. I have found some rare occurneces with carp in clear water were I have looked them in the eye and they dart off. I use bait casters and find them to work just fine. Once you cast your bait out with your bait caster, I would leave the bail open. By leaving the bail open it allows you to really sense when the carp bite and take the bait. When the carp takes your bait wait your going to want the carp to inhale the bait. With the bail open you can see the line being pulled and after a few seconds set the hook and fight the carp. This is not Bass Fishing so you don't have to have your rod and reel in your hand. It is fine if you just lay your rod on the ground with the bait in the water and bail open. Major Key (DJ Khaled)- If you lose a carp in one area of the water, immeditaly leave that area. If you are fighting a carp and you lose it, it scares the rest of the carp surronding. If you lose a carp it will spook the surronding carp and basically ruin the area for the day. Be patient carp tend to be picky but the good thing about carp is that they don't care about the time of day and will bite at any time. For locating carp in clear water you can sight fish. If the water is dark I would chum the area up by either throwing corn or bread were you are going to cast. And I would have multiple rods out in the water if your tornument allows you to do so. Remember be paitent and quiet for these carp to bite. But when the carp bite you should be in for a great fight.
  22. I learned from a Texas Rig and it is a great easy to learn method. On Bass Resource there is lots of articles about texas rigging. To catch numbers I would recommed going to your local tackle shop and buy 6 inch worms. I started with Zoom 6 inch Pumpkin Seed. Texas Rig is easy to learn and with a smaller worm you will catch numbers of fish.
  23. Poppers are a great bait if worked the right way. Personally the spring and summer have been the most effective. And PondBoss16 for ponds during the dog days of summer I find poppers effective. When the late evening sets for ponds, poppers are very effective at getting strikes from bass.
