  1. What everyone else has said. If you want to effectively fish the zulu's deeper, either use a keel weighted hook or insert a nail weight into the bait. I prefer the zulu's for fishing on the surface on calm days in and around weeds 8-)
  2. I agree with what most have said. In late winter/early spring, one of my primary baits is a Rapala Shad Rap SR07. This bait is fairly light and doesn't cast well on my bait casting setups so I just throw them on a 7' M spinning rod. My best advice is just to experiment a little with different brands and models but some that I have great confidence in are: Cotton Cordell Super Spot Rapala Shad Rap 07 Norman DD22, Deep Little N, Fat Boy Bomber Fat Free Shad BD 6 and 7 Lucky Craft Flat MR, DR, and D12 Strike King Series 5 anything I have by Big M Luhr Jensen Speed Traps Daiwa Peanuts A spinning rod is probably the easiest choice. Since you didn't list what rod and reel you've been using or the baits, it's hard to diagnose your problem really. It could be that your rod is too heavy or has the wrong tip. It could also be that the line capacity of your reel is too high hindering it's ability to cast light baits.

I couldn't really tell from the TW photo. Thanks Burley, that's what I thought but wasn't sure.

or anybody else that knows, what color(s) exactly is "double header?"
  5. I tried gluing the rattles in a rat-l-trap and while it worked, the bait now weighs a little more. Sinks quite a bit faster than a regular trap.
  6. Yeap. No problem. Stay in touch. David Seaton is another guide to consider. He is also the owner of Fishtale Lodge near Paris Landing which would make a great place to stay.
  7. I agree. I didn't think it was possible to enjoy a ride on Kentucky Lake until I rode in a Ranger. NICE boats.
  8. I am no where near as good a fisherman as those three listed, and I just really started putting in a lot of time ledge fishing this summer, but if you can't find anybody else I'd gladly take you out for a few days.
  9. My personal favorite :-/

  11. A general thought, not always true, Spinnerbaits in windy, overcast situations.

Anyone have any experience with the ima Flit? Gonna try to spend some more time with jerkbaits this fall and I'm looking to add a few different baits.
  13. I pay a lot of attention to this as well. After tournaments, I check another site all the time looking for the winning patterns for the same reasons. I like the way they do it also. They ask the angler what made the biggest impact and it's always pretty easy to find out who's kissing butt to sponsors and who's really speaking the gospel.
  14. I believe the Japanese Government considers Largemouth Bass to be an invasive species that they are trying to control. I don't understand why though, it seems to be a pretty good economic supporter considering the price of most bass fishing products are priced towards wealthier individuals. Seems like a world record bass over there might increase travel also :-/
  15. have to throw this in then chemistry whiz...... the freezing point of water is 0 Celsius or 32 fahrenheit...., or whatever scale you want to look at it..... -273.15, is absolute zero..... which is completely different. 273 Kelvins = 0* C 0 K = absolute zero -273 K = the point where all molecular movement ceases
  16. I hadn't heard that yet. That's real sad. This year has been very bad year for Kentucky Lake. Any details on the accident? I hope this wasn't another alcohol related incident.
  17. Marty those are awesome! The B3 replicas look real nice.

If you're gonna hunt that dog I think I'd ask her for a different hair cut. All that fro' is gonna attract burrs and thorns and the shaved area looks prone to cuts and scrapes and even hypothermia. I've heard of people around here hunting with poodle-lab mix breeds but never pure blood poodles.
  19. Untrue....I have fished 10'' worms on as small as 2/0 and it works just fine, true a larger hook is better but it's not set in stone. All you have to do is rig the hook further doen on the worm with more of the head up on the line. While that may be true and hookups may be possible, I don't think it's smart to try anything less than a 5/0.
  20. In the recent Elite Series tournament, winner Chad Griffin noted that in days 3 and 4, he caught his limits on schooling fish with a Zell-Pop. What I find interesting is that he stated the rod he was using for the popper was spooled with 20# fluoro I've always stuck to braid or mono when throwing topwater but has anyone ever tried with fluoro? Does it make an impact like we've been led to believe?
  21. One of my favorite summertime baits. I agree, go with a 5/0. I personally use Owner's Rig'N Hook.
  22. In college the value menu really shines during the late night hours beats gas station food any night
  23. When I recently cleaned the Lowe I fish out of, it was in need of some major work. It's a late 80's model and I don't think it had ever been cleaned. I used some diluted Simple Green and it cleaned everything from the water stains on the aluminum, the dirt and grime on the plastic console, to the oil/grease/exhaust on the white outboard. After that I wiped it all down with BTS and this boat looks as good as a 20 year boat that's regularly fished can 8-)
  24. It's pretty apparent he doesn't like to leave his recliner...
  25. If you want to stay shallow, look for grass, docks, or any other cover that will offer shade to the bass.
