  1. Yeah right! 11K to replace my '84 150 Mercury. So she a little old, and she smokes a little, but she still screams when I'm riding her.
  2. Great Idea! I might try that also I'd like to see some finished pic's. You could also line it carpet.
  3. I did my '84 Ranger Trail last summer with the boat still on it. I sanded some areas and then primed the thing several coats, then spray painted and then put a clear coat enamel even more coats looks great. The only problem I had was with the area between the side bunk, the trailer and wheel well. Kinda tricky lying on your back/stomach hitting that area. I had go to the lake oand launch fished for awhile to let dry spray paint and fish some more to dry. Good Luck!
  4. while taking out the old carepet, I have found an area under the tm foot pedal that crunches when I push down on it. No visiable stress crackes, but it does move down a little. I was wondering would a thin piece of 1/8 plywood be acceptable or is there something better on the market that I should use before I recarpet? any other tips on getting the old "fur" and glue off besides 10 gallons of elbow greese. Thanks!
  5. Just wondering if any one could help me with adding more/new power trim fliud? I've tried the shop manuel but with little prevail, the local boat shop wants Way to much just to show me how to do it. I would be greatful for any help. Once again thanks for your wisdom and knowledge. I've added a picture helps me instead of all that read'n stuff.
  6. I've been using oxyboost in my lw's for awhile now have never had any dead fish from it. I use 2-4oz. with warm water, Rinse until clean If you circulate the water inside that helps and it's biodegratable. Try Oxyboost.com there's an area for cleaning boats and lw's.
  7. Thanks guys for all the info! I'm off to buy the wood. I've found several good prices for the carpet on line, but I'm wondering would the black "grass" style carpet you can get at the HD also work? say double layerd on top. It's a little cheaper in price and I hate waiting for the UPS guy. I've heard somewhere that burning(?) could happen with this style of carpet when driving on the trailer.
  8. I'm getting ready to replace my bunks and while measuring the old I've found that they measure 5 1/2" in width and 1 1/2" in thickness. So, all I've found at the Home Depot is 6"x2", would that extra 1/2" in thickness for the side bunk make a difference with carpet added? The boat already fits nice and snugg up against the side bunk. Thanks as always for everyone's wisdom
  9. Hey chris! I know how confusing it can sometimes be on choosing the TM you want. I justed purchased my first TM (Minn Kota) which was replacing an old 22 year Motor Guide that came with my Ranger. I went with a 40 lb. bow mount foot control and it pulls my 17' with no problem. My biggest concern was cost. $319. at Wally-World. After owning Motor Guide and Minn Kota, I felt they were both good motors. I'm sure other people will tell you different. Which is better Ford or Chevy? You can find fault in both. It's what you want and what you can afford. Good luck
  10. Boat: 1984 Ranger 350-V w/ 150 Mercury Truck: Ford Ranger 4 cyclinder w/ 145,000
  11. What options is trying to sell you? You should be getting all the basic's for the boat. If money is not an option and you like all the bells and whisles go for what you like. how about a spare tire, boat cover, trailer bunks sometimes an option but it's probabley a good idea to have them. Just remember you can always add more (stereo, additional depth finder) for far less than what their asking for.
  12. just a few thoughts from a first time boat owner. I just purchased an 17' '84 Ranger 350-v with a 150 Mercury for $3000 and it screams across the water the boat is in mint condition. I had to replace the TM, I went with a Minnkota 40 lbs. and it moves the boat just fine. You might want to concider insurance also, I'm paying about $30. a month for full coverage just remmember thenewer the boat the more you are going to pay. How big are the lakes are you going to fish? By the time you are out of the hole are you at the other end of the lake? Your car/truck I have a Ford Ranger 4 banger and it struggles up hills with boat in tow(it's sad when a person in a wheelchair is going up the hill faster than you. If your not good at repairing motors, big motors equal BIG bucks to fix or replace. Take your time and look, look and look at everything out there. If you key word Craiglist boats in Googgle where ever you live boats are listed there, thats where I found mine or search the web. You might have to drive some distance but the rewards can be sweet. Good luck!
  13. Since this is my first winter in NC with my Ranger, I'm troubled on wether I should winterize or not? The winters can be mild and/or freezing. I don't mind fishing in the cold , but what dangers could happen to the boat if I use it one week with say 40 degree days and freezing nights and want to use it the next week? Should I just suck it and winterize and wait the few months? Any thoughts and advice would be helpfull. Thanks! Confused on what to do.
  14. I have an 84' ranger and I'm looking to replace all the gauges and rewire all under the console (tach, trim etc.) any good references out there that could help a novice? Ranger fax me some but poor quality and told me nothing. I'm sure this is out of my league so how would a person expect to pay a shop to rewire everything from console to stern? Should I start trying to sell a kidney?
  15. hello! First time on your web site looks great!
