  1. According to Roland Martin, there are nine reasons that a bass will attack an object. Feeding is only one of them. So no, it really doesn't matter what or how big an object is....given the right provocation a bass will eat it.
  2. Hand/eye coordination things usually come pretty easy to me but I've had a heck of a time learning to pitch (and yes, I've seen ALL the videos). At times I think I may be trying for too much distance. What is the length of your typical pitch? At what distance do you go to a roll cast or some other method? Thanks

For those of you who are as anal as I am....Home Depot now sells wire ties of the right size in tan and a color that looks remarkably like green pumpkin.
  4. Most of my fishing is done in 8' of gin clear water or less. I'm a huge believer in a stealthy approach. My clothing is background or sky colors, my chrome trolling motor shaft is wrapped, and I would never own a red, yellow or orange boat. If you watch many of the televised bass fishing events you will see that I am in the minority. Doug Hannon caught more than 400 bass over 10 pounds in his career in less than 3' of water. He wore camouflaged clothing and his small tin boat was also painted camo.
  5. This was back in the late '70's. I think he'd won his first classic and nobody really knew much about him.........yet.
  6. I met Rick Clunn, Dee Thomas, and Dave Gliebe waaaaaaay back in the day at a seminar in Seattle. They definitely led to my flippin' obsession.
  7. The duo of Homer Circle and Glenn Lau. OK, Glenn Lau wasn't exactly a fisherman, but his videos sure inspired me.
  8. A saying around these parts is "When the dogwoods are blooming, bass are on the beds". Still 4 to 6 weeks off or so.
  9. I bought one of these. It's only for hooking up (not full time) but it involves no wiring and has really been great in my case where I fish alone most of the time. https://www.amazon.com/5-8GHz-Wireless-Magnetic-Trailer-Monitor/dp/B0035WSQEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521043406&sr=8-1&keywords=iball+backup+camera
  10. Happens every year about this time. The frogs in the wetland across the street ALL started croaking last night. After a couple of warm days, it's like somebody throws a switch. It won't be long now.
  11. Interesting thread. My home lake is about 10 miles away, but it is a huge, gin clear, highly pressured urban lake. If I want to fish a lake that has natural shoreline and less pressure, it's a 20 mile to 30 mile trip. Having an 18 foot boat limits me as to the lakes with suitable launches.
  12. The Bureau of Reclamation has just released a public website that allows access to the current water levels of the Potholes Reservoir, Moses Lake, Scooteney, and other waters – as well as other useful information. The web address is http://www.usbr.gov/pn/hydromet/cbp. The Potholes Reservoir is listed as site 09 in the drop-down list. I've been wishing for a source like this for years. Now there won't be any surprises at the ramp.......I hope.
  13. I use them to add orange to a belly or red to the gills. I airbrush a lot of hardbaits and use Sharpies to add details like dots to a rainbow pattern and black "diamonds" to a baby bass, etc.
  14. 99%, the other 1% is the occasional find at Wal-Mart
  15. Always, especially with smallies.

I've tried Spike-it and it just doesn't penetrate...it just coats. Don't even try to dip a tube in it.

    They make black food dye?
  18. I've never broken a prop but I watched helplessly as mine skipped across the top of the water and sank. So yes, I carry a spare prop, washer, nut, and shear pins.

Being that they don't offer it, does anyone have any idea what I could add to get a black dye? And yes, before you ask, I've tried all the other dyes available. JJ's seems to be the only true stain.......rather than a surface coating. I guess a sharpie is an option but it seems like such a pain. Thanks
  20. I need to replace my cranking battery and this bad boy's in the way. Anything I need to know about an R&R on a 2008 Ranger/Evinrude? It looks pretty straight forward unless it's under a ton of pressure. Thanks
  21. I tried a search and didn't find much. Assuming you have one or more graphs at bow and console, do you leave them on all the time you're fishing or turn them on/off as needed? Watching MLF, it seems they are on constantly. Thanks. Thinking more from a power loss standpoint, not stealth.
  22. I use all R bends because I have lost too many fish when line has become pinched in the closed style. On the rare occasions I need to use a snap or wire leader, I slip a snap ring over the lie tie of the r bend before tying. This insures that the knot/swivel won't be going anywhere.
  23. If your hold down strap is held in place by the mount, you'll have to do something different there if you add washers.
  24. Looks like it was poured backwards.
