  1. Thanks for the replies guys. I was just curious about the brakes. I guess I would not recommend buying one of these reels. Max
  2. I have a Basspro Rick Clunn 8 bearing reel with mag brakes AND centrifical brakes. Does anyone know if the centrifical brakes are adjustable? I just can't seem to get the distance I think I should. Thanks in advance, Maxum PS I pulled the side cover but the centrifical brakes must be internal. I dont want to mess with it without knowing its possible to adjust them.
  3. Tony, Seneca is a great fishery but I do not fish it often even tho I live 5 miles from it. It is usually to rough for me as I get motion sickness easily. :'( There are 2 launches close to where your staying. I take it it is the Ramada. One is walking distance just down the street, and the State Park is a mile or two down the road. There is a pier in front of the Hotel also if you have no boat. Have fun, Maxum
  4. I have the ASR 865 C topwater and love it! Can't believe how light it is! Paired with a Curado cu-100, its my favorite rig. Maxum
  5. Arkansas shiner and green pumpkin for me also. T-rigged weightless. Maxum
  6. OK, went fishing yesterday morning. (It was beautiful out! ) Tried some things different. Instead of changing hands to set the hook, I just kept it in left till I felt the bite, then lower the rod tip, take up slack, and set the hook with my left weak hand, keeping my right on the crank. Worked ok as I caught 3 decent bass and missed a few. I kept my thumb on the spool and that didn't work to good. I tended to push the release on the hook set. > So i use the drag to set the hook, just tighten it up a tad... I still think Ill try to pick up a used lefty of some kind and see how it feels. Maxum
  7. Hi all, Im new to bait casters as this is my second year of having them. This is really my first year because I didn't use them much last year. Finally got a couple nice setups , (Curado's) and been using them exclusively. Here's my problem. I'm left handed to write but thats it. Every thing else is pretty much right. My right is my strongest arm and wrist. I pretty much have to switch hands to get a good hook set. Now I'm thinking left handed would be better. I guess I better find a cheap reel just to try. Any one else with this problem? Maxum
  8. I have always used swivels because I change baits a lot and I'm basically lazy. ;D But this year I'm going to do some things different and thats one of them! Max
  9. Quinn, I don't care if I every catch another fish, I enjoy fishing and especially with my Bro... catching is secondary. Max
  10. OK! Went back to the same spot today and and hooked up with 3 nice bass and missed three hits. Mattm, no, believe me, I had no bites yesterday! The difference today was I had spot remover and shaky heads. Guess little things DO make a difference. I feel better, JimK
  11. My brother is my main fishing partner and it never fails that he catches ten fish to my one. Yesterday he caught 6 or 8 bass and I never got BIT! Unbelievable! Using basically the same soft plastics. Heres what was different and tell me what you think is the main reasons he does so much better, other than I SUCK! Both using senkos on bait casters He used shaky head jig, I had weighted worm hook and weightless He ties every thing on, I use a small snap swivel He had 14# flouro, I had 10# Yozuri hybrid Water was clear and calm fishing from creek bank Now I can accept he"s a better fisherman than me , but not even a bite? :'( What do you guys think? Discouraging! Changes are coming!
  12. The Shimano website has a video of the sub walk. I plan on getting a couple before the season. My BPS stores rack is always empty of these, may have to special order. JimK
  13. My brother bought one at the Classic. He tried it last weekand says its great! Easily outcasts anything he owns. Thats all I know about it but it sounds like a good deal to me. JimK
  14. I bought one because of the "twitchin" bar. I wanted to try it without spending $200.00. I must say it is a smooth little reel for the money. I am happy with it but I probably don't know any better! ;D I don't own any real expensive baitcasters to compare it to.
  15. Just got one last week. For a $60 reel it is not bad! Ive wanted a Veinto for a long time because of that Twitchin' bar and this didnt break the bank. Very smooth and casts a mile. Has a graphite frame so how it will hold up, I dont know. Ive heard good things about the Daiwa Excellar also. 8 bearings and all aluminum for $69, might have to have one.
  16. thanks all for your replies, its on my wish list! Jim
  17. Anyone seen a device on the back of a bass boat that is a pole that extends to hold it in place in shallow water? Saw some guys using one up in the thousand islands a while back. Looked like it worked great! They were working the shoreline slop and pulling out some nice fish! Thanks for any info, Jim
  18. Sounds good to me! I tried the superglue trick and wasn't impressed. It made the bait hard and crunchy. Will definitely try this though, almost cleaned out my worm box last weekend, glad I held off ! Keed us posted on where to get some Matt
  19. Hi Guys and Gals, Going to be fishing in the Thousand Islands a lot this summer and would like recommendations for a chartplotter to help me A get home and B keep from tearing my lower unit off. From what Ive seen at BPS the Lowrance LCX-28hd fits the bill but hurts my wallet. I looked at the cheaper models but the maps didnt show the same detail as far as hazards and such. Anyway just need a little convincing that it would be money well spent or not. Thanks for any input. Jim
  20. I have one but have used it only a few times. Nothing has hit it yet but not really a good test. Im sure they will work OK. I am fishing where the bite is real slowwww....... Jim

You guys make me feel bad! Shiman, Rapala,.....I got the five dollar Fishermans friend version at Harbor freight and thought I was doing good! Actually it is not a bad set. Seems to be stainless and you get pliers hemmostat and sissors. Works for me! Jim
  22. I use the Kanami version which is made by the same people but I prefer the originals colors. My Basspro doesnt carry Ika's if you can beleive that but they carry Kanami Palm tree's. I learned about the Ika on this board and did very well with them this year. So thank you all for the good info, a man could go broke using trial and error so being new to artificial fishing i have rellied on this boards expertise and it has helped emensly so thank you all! Jim
  23. I have fished with craws both ways. I really dont see a difference weather you declaw them or not. If Im in weeds I declaw because the little buggers grab anything they can get there claws on. Like weeds. What I have noticed and for the life of me cant figure out why is why the ones I catch in the creek by my house with the hardest shells imagineable catch more fish than the softshells I buy at the baitshop. Go figure! Jim
  24. Finally got mine a couple days ago, well worth the money and wait. Jim
  25. Santa is sposed to bring me a Citica for x-mas but the bait monkey made me buy the Rick Clunn last time I was at Basspro. (Cant pass up a sale!) I fished 4 days with it so far and for 70 bucks I am very happy with it. The reviews on Basspros website convinced me to try it and they were right about being forgiving. Im new to bait casting and was throwing everything from light to heavy and no bad backlashes! I will see when the Shimano comes how they compare. Jim
