  1. Bass are the top of the mountain for me, but unfortunately I haven't had time to bass fish yet this year. The boat I captain had some issues this trip, that I have to haul out to repair. I was hoping to have time to bass fish in March and April, but probably wont be able to get on the water for more than a day or two. I have a couple big tuna trips to get ready for in May and with a haul out, and other maintenance, I will be lucky to get a chance to fish for bass at all. I'm not complaining, I have a fun job, but it is hard to keep my mind off the double digit bass swimming in my local waters.
  2. We did our yearly trip to Baja De Navidad this past week. Usually we catch lots of tuna, but I had difficulty finding tuna. The Blue Marlin bite was good, so the trip was a success. We landed 7 Blue Marlin, and one Striped marlin in three days of fishing off of Bara. The trip back to PV seas were rough, and we only were able to catch one dorado, and a couple of rooster fish. Normally I let all Marlin go, but my crew wanted to keep one, because it did not look like we were going to go home with a boat load of tuna. The rest of the marlin for that trip and all the other trips this year were released in good condition. We did hook one large tuna that the owner of the boat fought for 1.5 hours and lost near the boat.
  3. To give bass fisherman something to argue about when their water is covered with ice. By the way Yum dingers catch more bass than Senkos.
  4. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, worm. Any time of year.
  5. I hope to someday hook a bass big enough to flip my boat
  6. Congratulations. Could you please message me the gps numbers where each DD was caught.
  7. Lake Menderchuck with a guy that drives a Lund around, and owns so many Vision 110's the Bait Monkey told him to back off on the Megabass purchases as my guide.
  8. better he looks for yours than mine
  9. Here in Mexico I was forced to use finesse baits too. Most years my best lure has been a spinnerbait, with crankbaits coming in a close second. This year my best bait by far was a Junebug T Rigged Zoom Ole Monster. I prefer the moving baits, but if I have to I will break out the finesse gear. I hope 2024 was just an off year, and in 2025 I can get back to throwing my favorite spinnerbait, but to be safe, I did by a few more bags off Ole Monsters, if I have to finesse them.

  11. Just buy more Jerkbaits. There has to be a magic one out there.
  12. Some guys got all the luck. I doubt if I could catch the same DD bass if I raised the bass in my bath tub. Got to like a guy that catches a giant bass and still calls his rod a fishing pole. Maybe I should get back to my uncomplicated dock fishing roots. I had just as much fun fishing before I met the Bait Monkey as I do now.
  13. You accidentally ordered a reel. That's your story and you are sticking to it. I wish you luck.
  14. Skirts-, white or black, Trailers- white, black, chartreuse, and blue.
  15. Three! The monkey hasn't won, he hasn't even walked on the field yet. You can consider yourself ahead at halftime, if you only have 300 crankbaits. When you have absolutely no idea how many crankbaits you own, the Monkey may have won, but he will then attempt to run the score up.
  16. If the Spinnerbait Monkey is a Chimpanzee, and the Soft Plastic Monkey is a Gorilla, the Crankbait Monkey is King Kong. Stay away from this monkey, he is more dangerous than all the other Bait Monkeys combined.
  17. OK, in my experience EFFICIENT, bass move quickly, chase fast moving bait and lures, and grow big because they hunt fast and often. They may waste a little energy chasing, but more than make up for the loss, by catching and eating more food. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to fish for large unpressured bass. They have not been caught, and are not scared of loud fast lures. They prefer to hit fast moving baits, because they are aggressive predators. Bass that are pressured may be more cautious and less likely to chase a lure down because they perceive a fast moving lure as dangerous, where as a slow moving bait may look more real or safe to eat. In order for a bass to grow big they must be aggressive, but show enough caution to grow old. Depending on where you fish, the balance between aggressiveness, and caution can be very different. I do believe a big bass doesn't mind swinging for the fences and striking out often, as long as they hit a home run once in awhile. Sure they may waste some energy trying to catch a bait that swims fast and gets away, but the nutrition from the ones they catch far out way the expended energy, from the ones that get away.
  18. For me it doesn't matter how far I can cast a lure. I will still try and get that extra couple feet that wont help in any way catch a bass. I keep backing off the brakes, use lighter pressure with my thumb, throw harder and harder, until I can feel the line start to fluff, then I am happy. Of course after a couple of casts at the very edge of the backlash cliff, I give that one last extra push, and off the cliff I go. Then I get to practice my backlash removal skills. One of these days I hope to learn how to catch bass close to the boat, as well as I know how to remove a backlash.
  19. I'm not sure if I believe in the big bass are lazy theory. All of the bigger bass I have caught have been caught while fishing fast. Even the ones caught on plastic worms have hit either on the fall, or after a quick hop or two. The biggest bass I have ever seen chased down a bass I had hooked, and grabbed it right at the boat. This bass was huge and did not look to be lazy. When fishing live bait for bass, I have never caught one on a bait that was moving slow. They always want fresh fast swimming baits. If a bass isn't willing to move quickly to catch it's food it will stave. Most of the prey a bass eats, is very quick, and will try and escape. If the bass only easts an easy meal, the bass will not grow to be big. I know my opinion goes against what most bass fisherman have preached for years, and I may be wrong, but I can't ignore what I have observed, just because it goes against the majority opinion.
  20. When I'm not using Braid, or Fluorocarbon, I prefer Maxima Ultragreen, and if I could only use one line it would be Ultragreen. Luckily I'm not limited to one line, and use many different lines for many different techniques, and species of fish.

  22. The Bait Monkey makes sure I buy baits at a faster rate than the hooks can rust. Problem solved.
