I guess I'm the odd man out. I would go with the Bass Tracker. It's aluminum, and will be much more forgiving if you hit a stump. It's much lighter than a glass boat so will use less fuel and it be cheaper to tow. In addition, many glass boats of that era used wood in the hull framing, so you may have unseen rot going on. On the other hand, aluminum boats of that era used through-hull rivets to secure the bracing, so there is a strong possibility that you will have leaks. This usually isn't a problem if you make sure your bilge pump is operational.

Well, so much for that discussion.

Deerhunter02, the boat you referred to is a boat designed for fishing. It could be a speed boat, but many are not. It all depends upon your definition of speed. Some will travel at 20 mph while others will travel at 75 mph. I am still curious as to why you decided to start a poll. I can tell you this. By a very great margin, most fishermen fish from the shore. Others use canoes, kayaks and the like. The rest of us use a boat with a motor. I fish from one of two boats. One is an inflatable raft equipped with a trolling motor. Top speed, 3 mph. It's my favorite, but is no good when fishing big water. The other is a 17' Bass Tracker. Top speed, about 45 mph. I love it, but it's a lot more expensive to operate than my raft. Everything being equal I prefer to fish from my raft. I hope this helps.

I went way out of my way to really stir the feces, but all I get back is one comment on liver eating and a couple of comments on the use of the word Honky. To tell you the truth, I think the last time I heard that word used was when Richard Pryor used it in Silver Streak - but I getting so old that I don't remember whether or not the movie was Silver Streak. :-/ Seriously, if I post anything on the "Everything Else" forum, do not take me seriously. I usually banter with old what's his name down in Florida and that really ugly guy who can't use a trolling motor, but Burley seems to be trying to turn the trio into a foursome. What everybody else said. I have three President spinners. I also have less expensive Trion and like it just as well, if not more so, but don't tell anyone.

Russ, I don't use Stick Jackets. I use the Rod Socks available from BPS. They seem to have ample room to cover even the line guides of a salt water rod. They are great for fresh water, but I wouldn't use them for Salt water unless I applied a sealer to them. Come to think of it, I just finished resealing my boat cover and I have quite a bit of sealer left over. I do believe that I will be soaking some rod socks tomorrow. Thanks for giving me the idea. As for reel covers for spinning gear, I haven't found one I liked yet. The reel covers from BPS are crap for spinning reels.

Why is this so important to you? Also, please define "speed boat type."

It sounds to me that your jack threads are worn out. Trailer Jacks are so cheap these days that it's much more cost effective just to replace the one you have. I would start with Academy Sports. Unless you are towing a VERY large boat, any jack will do.

jeremyt, You've got it all wrong. Avid and I have no animosity toward each other. Although I have never met the man face to face, I have learned to like and respect him. I sincerely believe that the feeling is mutual. We both have a lot in common, not the least of which is hurling the occasional good-natured insult at each other. You may be surprised to know that Muddy, Avid and I have a secret fishing trip planned sometime in the not real near future. We will be fishing on an electric-only lake and will each be fishing out of our own boats. What a perfect scenario! Spending a day on the lake with Muddy and Avid and not speaking a word to either of them - My idea of heaven. Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, but couldn't resist.
