BR.COM RULES SO MANY REASONS IT's #1
Dominick, you and Arnold Schwartzneger (sp) have a lot in common. Not only do you look a lot like him and have his former physique, but he was also unable to self-terminate. ;D ;D ;D

Pretty on the water pics
What Avid said Those of us who continually watch their line might want to occasionally look up and photograph the beauty around them. Outstanding photos, guys!

Texas & Oklahoma
Here in Tulsa, we have had a record fifteen straight days of measurable rainfall. All of our reservoirs, both large and small, are well above full pool, some as much as ten feet. One of our nearby lakes, Skiatook, was 15' below normal six weeks ago. It's only source of inflow is from runoff. It is now three feet above normal. That's a lot of new water for a 25,000 acre lake. There is about a 200 mile wide corridor that runs from South Texas to Northeast Kansas that has been under a flash-flood watch for the last two weeks. We got 2.5 inches of rain last night and it has been raining off and on all day. Probability of rain tomorrow? 90% To tell you the truth, I'm pretty much sick of it, but I'll eat my words come August and 100 plus temperatures.

Where do you keep your boat?
I keep mine at a very secure outdoor storage facility about five minutes from my house. Price - $41/mo. and no hook-up for a battery charger. I've price shopped and they are all in the $40 range. The property owners must think that all boat owners can afford to shop at West Marine. :

Got your passport ?
As I posted earlier, I received my renewed passport in only three weeks. In the earlier post I neglected to mention that it was a renewal, instead of a new passport. I've carried a passport for over thirty years because I used to live and work overseas. I also blamed the Department of Homeland Stupidity for causing all of the mess, and for creating additional stupidity such as banning cigarette lighters on airplanes while permitting matches. For some reason my earlier post was deleted. In light of the fact that government stupidity is rampant, and in light of the fact that I posted under the topic of "Everything Else" it never occured to me that my post would have been considered objectionable by the power that be. My opinion hasn't changed.

boat carpet
I agree with Cart7. Buy marine carpet. It will save you a lot of money in the long run.

pimp my kayak
c17, if you are planning to add a deck to that boat and then stand and fish off of it, you must obviously be a tight rope walker. Unless I had outriggers on that thing, I wouldn't even consider it. But then, I'm an old fart.

Boat project pic at last
No, it's not a double half-hitch. It's this. http://www.tollesburysc.co.uk/Knots/Bowline.htm

Another snake pic
I've never seen it where I grew up (South Louisiana) but based on the shape of its head and more importantly, the shape of its pupils, the snake is definitely non-poisonous. Leave it alone.

Inflatable.
For $150 you might be able to buy the mount for the trolling motor. The boat will cost you about $300. www.seagleagle.com

Sealer for boat cover
Many thanks guys. Since the previous owner was a pig, I'll start by pressure-washing the cover before I take further action. I don't think the cover is made of cotton, because it doesn't seem to have the flexibility and softness of cotton. On the other hand, I know as much about fabrics as I know about Quantum Physics.

BEGINNING BASS BOAT
In two words, Bass Tracker. Best value for the money and the best selling boat in the USA.

Sealer for boat cover
My new (old) 1990 Tracker has a very well made custom boat cover. The only problem is that it is not waterproof. Can anyone recommend a product that I can can use to make the fabric water tight? For what it's worth, I don't think the fabric is cotton.

Strickly trolling motor users??
Solar charger? Waste of time and money, at least while you are on the water. Your TM will draw the battery down much faster than a Solar charger can replenish it.

West Marine - Do you get a kiss?
fish-fighting -illini, try going to Home Depot and buying stainless nuts, bolts and screws. It ain't gonna happen, at least not in Oklahoma. I can buy brass or I can buy zinc plated.

Non Electric depth finder
After Avid gets back in the boat and kicks your Italian Azz, do you start fishing for catfish with blood-baits? ;D

Trolling Motor not tracking straight
Ahem, Ahem. Muddy, you must first ask Laurasdad if he drove his boat into 18" of water at 35 mph with the TM down. If he didn't, then your expertise doesn't apply. ;D

Time spent on maint & care
Many of you know that I bought 1990 17' Tracker last week. The previous owner was an absolute pig! I'm sure Jeff Foxworthy has spoken about this type of Redneck many of times. I spent two days just trying to clean it up enough to be able to pressure-wash the carpeting without causing an environmental disaster in the storm drains. The gas tank/ battery compartment was caked with two-cycle oil and it was also running into the bilge. I suppose the previous owner didn't care about polluting our lakes and rivers. Today I started working on the wiring. My best guess is that this dufus never heard of a soldering iron, or a crimp connection, or heat shrink tubing. This guy was in love with wire nuts. They are everywhere and ALL of them are corroded. Ah, well, the motor is newly rebuilt, and it alone is worth the money I paid for the whole rig. I figure in another four days I'll be ready to put my new toy on the water without leaving an oil slick and I will be confident that I will not be bitten by ants or spiders. In addition, I will have no earthworms crawling between my toes. I told you this guy was a pig. Hey, a new Foxworthy joke. "If you ain't growin earthworms in your fishing boat, you ain't a Redneck." ;D

Hey airborne, just for grins you might want to research how Mark Twain got his name.

My new (to me) boat
I think you and the young'uns will have a lot of fun it that boat. ;D

Strickly trolling motor users??
Check the archives on this site for battery maintenance. If memory serves, the largest contributor to loss of battery life is over-discharge during use. Again, if memory serves, the frequency and method of recharge is not so important as the method of discharge.

Opinions on a boat...
The boat would definitely meet your needs, although the boat is a little underpowered for tourneys. Since the condition of the engine is the great determiner of the value of the boat, that is one area you want to check out thoroughly. Try to find out how often the boat was on the water. If it was used, say the times a week from the day it was bought, then the engine may be due for a major overhaul. Assuming the boat owner was a casual user, then I would say the asking price is more than fair.
