  1. If you're stuck between those two get neither. At the 200$ price point the Avid is the way to go IMO.
  2. I use 832 on all my braid combos in either white or green, only problem is the green fades which isn't a big deal IMO. The new Powerpro super slick v2 looks tempting tho, especially that onyx color
  3. What's the entry fee for St. Judes? Sounds like a good time and a good cause.
  4. 7'6" H Daiwa Zillion flipping rod w/ 50 lb 832. Feels really good with that 3/4 oz. weight range.
  5. why not just learn to tie a leader not? Doesn't take very long just look up a Youtube video. I use the alberto knot.
  6. I'm from the cities and just started throwing big baits this past year. Right now I own 2 S-waver 168s, 2 Ospreys and a Megabass Magdraft. Looking to pick up a 7" Slammer as well. All have produced fish for me just no giants. This year, spring and fall were the best time to throw them since a lot of the lakes around here have milfoil, if you're going for largies. I had smallies on Mille Lacs take swipes at my Osprey multiple times this year so definitely worth a shot for smallies as well.
  7. I throw the 190 for muskies here in MN and in Canada. The 190 runs the best by far out of all the sizes, even with 14 inches of steel in front of it. Could be your bait is defective or the tail has something catching on it.
  8. An even more secure method of transaction than PayPal is cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. Too bad not many people use it, especially in the fishing community.
  9. I have multiple St croix LTBs and one champion XP that I am currently selling. In my opinion, the Champion is nowhere near as sensitive or strong as the LTBs. Only a bit lighter. I've heard great things about their Fury series though for a 100$ rod.
  10. Looking for a new dropshot rod and am interested in the Helium 3 7' ML. My current rod is an Avid X 7'0 ML that I love, I'd just like something a bit more sensitive. The 2 rods seem pretty similar in terms of specs and handle length which I like, a spinning rod with a long handle is a no go for me. Does anyone have experience with this rod?
  11. What do you do to specifically target bass through the ice? I catch them here and there in the winter fishing for crappies or pike but never really have gotten on a good bite. It would be cool to target them, especially smallies
  12. Nice fish. McMahon sure knows his stuff ?
  13. Mille Lacs water temps 43-44 yesterday. Fish were munching swimbaits
  14. I fished it in July and experienced just that. Caught probably 50 fish but only a dozen or so were over 2 lbs.
  15. Looked around the forum and couldn't really find much info on this specific Expride model. Does anyone on here have it and want to share insight? I've been looking at it for a while as a multipurpose jig/t rig rod. Maybe swimjigs and chatterbaits depending on how the taper feels. Thanks, Jack
  16. Gonna put it on here first in case any local guys are interested. I have a Dobyns Champion XP 703C, 13 M.U.S.E. Black 7'3 MH XF, and a Lews Tournament Lite 7:1. spooled w/ 30# 832. All 3 are in great condition, low use. Asking 165$ for the Dobyns, 115$ for the M.U.S.E. and 100$ for the Lews. Pics won't upload on here so shoot me a PM if interested. Thanks
  17. Went out on Calhoun/Isles today in the boat. Water temp was 53 but the fish were not biting. Flipped mid depth milfoil for a while as well as the wood in isles without a bite. Ended up catching all 8 of our fish throwing chatterbaits over the tops of weeds and jigworms off the breaks. Biggest went 3.5
  18. For my dropshots I use a rod with a more "parabolic" tip because my hookset if more of a "reel up" than a set. Although I don't really fish shakeyheads, I fish a tube and jigworm quite a bit which are similar baits in terms of hookset. For those I use a slightly stiffer rod with a faster tip since I drive the hook into the fish when I set with those baits instead of letting the fish do it for me.
  19. The new tatula is supposedly out of this world. Definitely the next casting reel I'm adding to my arsenal
  20. Avid x all the way. I have 2, one spinning and one casting and they are awesome for the price. I've fished a lot of my buddies e6xs and personally think they are way below the Avid. Less sensitive, less powerful and heavier. Haven't fished the tatula elites but I have a regular tatula as well as a zillion and they are both awesome sticks.
  21. We launched out of cove as well on Saturday as wind was coming from S/SE. We normally fish out of Garrison so we were going in somewhat blind. Overall the bite was pretty tough. All our fish came on dropshot, tube and spybait in 12-20 ft. besides on 4lber my buddy caught under a dock (crazy huh?). Other than that nothing big. Did have about a 3lber hit my 6 inch osprey swimbait at the boat though which was pretty cool. Will be back up soon once it cools down as fish are definitely still in summer pattern.
  22. Anyone been on Mille Lacs recently? Thinking about heading up tmrw
  23. I have the rod and would say cranks up to 22ft would overpower it. I throw mostly paddletails and medium cranks (DT10s, 5XDs) on it and it is great for that. Not as parabolic of a rod as one might expect for a crank rod, mind you, so keep that in mind. Hope this helps
  24. That article is hilarious lol. I think they are overreacting tho about bass spreading. Its so dang cold up there I doubt that fish could breed or get over a pound or two, if they survive at all. I bet someone thought it would be funny to dump a couple in that lake and see what happens?
  25. how do you like the choppo compared to the plopper?
