Rattles or no rattles
Hear alot about people using rattles on there jigs. I have used them in dingey water and never noticed a difference. I have quit useing them all together. What are some of your experiences with rattle jigs? Do you think they make a difference?

Favorite Topwater baits
I caught a lot of fish last year on the Rapala skitter pops in the frog pattern. I treid other poppers(REBEL) and there was a huge preference for the Rapala. In some cases they wouldn't even touch the other brand. I thought it was a little odd. There was definately differences in the two lures. Different sounding pops, the Rebel had rattles, and the Rapala was quite a bit larger, different color patterns. I guess you just have to let the fish tell you. Another underrated topwater is a the original floating Rapala twitched on the surface. Deadly. Others I like are buzzbaits and jitterbugs.

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
I'm sorry for bringing this up again but I'm still wondering how the world record club can afford to pay someone $7,000,000.00 for catching the world record bass? And why would they? :-? Am I the only one that thinks that is a little weird? :-/ Heck that would be worth packing up and heading to Cali now that I know the lake that the fish lives in.

Perry's record is in BIG trouble!!!!!
When that fish was caught a second time I wonder how far away it was from the first time it was caught? And another thing, $7,000,000??? How can the World Record Bass club afford to pay that out? These guys made it sound like there wasn't anyone lining up to fork over money. I am suprised they would go into the local news paper and tell everyone the lure used and what lake it was caught in. Especailly if there is a chance at 7mil. They pretty much just ruined their chances at catching that fish again. Imagine the people that will be fishing that lake. Every time they head out onto the water there will be about 20 boats following them would be my guess.

Favorite Rapala for Pike
I have never heard of the gold flourescent red minnow but the firetiger and clown patterns have always been deadly for pike. #12 and #14 huskyjerks are always winners year round especailly in the spring and fall. Jointed rapalas are a great choice in the heat of the summer. #11 and #13 should work fine.

Frenzy Crankbaits? Biggest Sleeper in fishing?

a concern
I agree c312. That word should never be used to poke fun at someone. The shortbus is just as bad.IMO

How would you fish it - part 1
Stained muddy cold water??? I'd fish jigs tight to whatever cover they are holding in. SLOW.
-
Jointed Rapala
I usaully tweak the line tie to tune baits. Bend it the opposite way it is favoring too. If that doesn't work I will mess around with the hook hangers. Its pretty rare though to not get a crank running well with a little line tie tweakage. How do you like that word "TWEAKAGE".

favorite color rattle trap
Firetiger is a big confidence color for my with all cranks. I don't know what it is it just catches me fish. Then again I fish a lot of stained water lakes. Just about all the firetiger cranks in my tackle box a thoroughly chewed up.

Frenzy Crankbaits? Biggest Sleeper in fishing?
There has been a few threads started on these lures in the past. If you do a search they should pop up. Personnally I have had some good luck with these baits. Its my go to lure on a particular lake that I fish that has very stained water with a good amount of flooded timber. They are suprisingly weedless with very loud rattles. I have a firetiger pattern thats has loads of fish to its credit. Fivebasslimit, are the lures you have older versions? The older ones did seem to have plain jane paint jobs but the newer ones are a little more detailed. Besides the firetiger pattern they come in natural patterns that ain't as appealing to fisherman as they are the fish. Do to the paint jobs they probably ain't the bait monkeys best friend either but they definately catch fish. I think so many of us are so used to paying an arm and a leg for crankbaits that when we see one that is cheap with a not so flashy paint job we think they won't work. IMO they are a very well built lure for the price. They have actually been around for quite some time and are just now really being talked about. I'd say buy a bunch while the price is still decent because if they are a "sleeper" and explode you can expect the price to rise considerably.

Spinner baits are a good wingy day bait.

Shoreline Fishermen, Storing your baits?
When I do a little shore fishing, I have a small tackle box that I fill for that particular outing. I never take all four of my oversized tackle boxes, That just wouldn't make much sense. Most of the time I just bring a single clear plastic tray with a lid. I usually end up only using a couple lures through out the day anyway.

wiggle warts
As already mentioned I can't stress enough the importance of running your crank into something whether it be rocks, wood, or weeds. I'd also recommend getting a lure retreiver of some sort. They are worth their wieght in gold. I have saved myself literally hundreds of dollars because of these goofy looking little gadgets.

wiggle warts
Don't let that erratic wiggle scare you, thats what makes them effective. I have had awsome luck fishing for smallies with these lures skimming them over weed tops. Here is a good cranking technique with any crank not just wiggle warts. Make sure you know the running depth of your crank and pick one that will run right over the tops of the weeds, occasionally getting hung up. Its important to get it stuck in the tops of the weeds, not buried in them, just stuck in the top. Its also important to use a no-stretch line like Fireline or Power Pro for this method so you can feel what your crank is doing and when it gets hung up. When you fell your crank hit some weeds stop reeling jiggle your rod tip a little to free your lure(a bouyant crank is a good idea)usaully it will float up and away from the weeds and when it does and even if it don't give the lure a couple of rips to free any remaining weeds off the crank or to free it from the weeds in general. The strikes will occur when your shaking the lure, when you rip it(and I don't mean fart) or when your just reeling it in. This method has been deadly for me. Concentrate on getting your lure back to the boat without any weeds. You'd be suprised how weedless a crankbait really is. Of all fishing techniques this is by far my favorite.
