A fish tale
Just got done reading a post by Heycoach and the struggles he has been facing with fishing. I'd like to share mine with the hope that someone may find some encouragement. Bare with me here, So back in February I go out to a local pond I have fished for many years and have limited success at. I keep going because it is common knowledge that there are quality fish in there. On this day it's cold and its drizzling but I had a new reel I wanted to try out. I was also trying out for the first time a shallow running squarebill crank bait. After about an hour I was drenched and ready to call it quits when I caught my first ever bait caster, squarebill, fish. Boy was I excited! I'm thinking man oh man is this going to be my year! I did not go out again tillJune, for many different reasons and on multiple outings caught nothing. Tried a few different places with no luck what so ever. Anyway, I decide I've had enough frustration and pack it in. Decided to focus on other things but always had a bait caster near by as it became my "fidget".One day I get this wild hair up my butt that I need better equipment so within 2 months I sold all 4 reels and 2 rods and made significant upgrades. "Knowing in the back of my mind equipment will only take you so far" but hoping just the same.Well, the next month is no better. More frustrating than before because now I'm working with very trying special needs kids in summer school and my stress level is off the charts. I go fishing one day and it was a DISASTER!! I spent most of my time picking out backlashes than actually fishing and my ATTITUDE ABSOLUTELY SUCKED!I'M DONE! I throw my stuff in the trunk and skulk home. I sport a very bad attitude for the next 2 weeks. Now it's the end of July, I'm sitting on my deck having a cup of coffee with my bait caster in my hand when I come to the conclusion that my attitude needs some serious adjusting. So, I make up my mind that even if I'm not going to go fishing at least I can get to know my equipment better. Starting the 2nd day of August I began going up to our local middle school with my 2 baitcasters, some practice plugs, and a readjusted attitude. There are 8 four square courts lined up side by side for a total of 32 different targets. I position myself so the last box in the last court is 30 yards away from me. I start by flipping the plug to the nearest square and do not move on until I have gotten the plug to rest inside the square. Sometimes I don't move on for quite some time ( I suck at flipping and don't like it that much) but I'm working on it. It has gotten to the point where I rarely backlash any more(still do but not as often) and I'm actually liking the baitcasters better than the spinning gear. I've also gotten to the point where I enjoy the game as much as actually fishing. With that said, I look forward to taking my newly acquired casting skills and a much better attitude out to the water soon. Tight lines! Gregg By the way, ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!!

Why do I even fish?
Wow do I know the feeling. Horrible, horrible summer for me. Bought 4 new reels within 2 months and caught NADA! in mutiple trips out, so, I decided to start working on my technique. I go to my local middle school play ground with my 2 Baitcasters and throw to the 8 four square courts and practice, practice, practice. I still suck at flipping but I don't hate it anymore. 8 courts, 4 squares each, 32 total targets! It's getting to the point where I enjoy this as much as fishing. I try not to go home until I've hit every square. I know this is going to pay off in the long run. DON'T GIVE UP! Make a game out of it. Good luck!!

The friend...
Agree. If he is really a friend, you owe him the truth. If he gets offended that's on him, you need to be truthful in a kind way. In the long run it will either strengthen that friendship or you know you can now cut the line and move on. What ever you decide, be kind!

Fresh water fishing Outerbanks?
Hey there, anyone know of any freshwater fishing in or around the Outerbanks Nagshead are? Willing to drive 1/2 hour or so away. Going there for vacation. Will get a 1 or 2 day license if there are places to go.

What other hobbies/passions
Wondering what some of your other hobbies/passions arethat you guys have besides fishing? I have a VERY modest passion for hats, fedora, outback style to be exact. Ever since dealing with skin cancer 10 years ago I have worn a hat just about everyday.I'm particularly fond of Akubra hats from Australia. What about you guys?

Tube baits
Ok, just got back from my local BassPro and once again they were out of colors and sizes I was looking for along with being out of appropriate sized internal weights. So, I got a 4 inch size watermelon color.I'm going to rig with a wide gap hook and was wondering if I can put the weight inside the tube as opposed to outside in a normal tex rig fashion. Will this adversely affect the action? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I watched the video with Glenn and that helps a lot. I'm fishing mainly lakes and ponds with a lot of vegetation. Also, the weights they did have were a two pack and not cheap. I've seen them on eBay for the same price as BassPro but in a 10 pack. Any idea if these are decent quality?

Tube baits
Hey guys, thinking about trying some tube baits but not sure which ones or whether I need them. I have some Yamamoto Fat Ika's, do I need anything else? If so what kind and what kind of hooks?

Spinnerbait storage
As a bank fisherman who doesn't like carring around a bunch of tackle I find it very frustrating trying to bring spinnerbaits. Reason being, I don't like having such bulky storage boxes to carry in my backpack. What I think would be a great idea is to have like a Plano box with a compartment on the bottom or lid where you can take along 3 or 4 spinnerbaits laid flat under or above your other tackle. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?

One Rod,One Reel, One Boat
I was talking to a friend of mine who worked at a golf course with me back in the day. We were talking about a club tournament we ran where the players all had to play the same ball, the same 3 clubs (I.E. driver, 5 iron, wedge) Which got me to thinking, I would love to see a fishing tournament where the pro's were only allowed to use 1 rod, 1 reel, same 5 baits, and lets say the line you were allowed to use was flourocarbon. Ifyou were involved what would be your choices? Mod's I was not sure where to post this. Actually let's expand this a little: 3 day tournament, each day a different line but same 1 rod, 1 reel deal.
