  1. dobyns fury rod, lews spinning reel $200 gander brand 8lb floro $20 senkos(what ever brand u want in the basic colors i personally like the gander brand cause they are cheap) $5-$8 per pack probably around $25-$30 stanley ribbits $6 $18 some frog hooks ewg hooks and wacky rig hooks ill say roughly $20 this brings your total to roughly $300 give or take some tax this is just the basics i like to use in my pond this time of year and you still have around $100 to spend on some other lures that may work in your area
  2. 30 lb power pro will be more then enough. im only running 50 on my musky rod and the pacemaker makes the bass size whopper plopper look like a crappie bait
  3. lemme guess walmart had the kvd
  4. u cant really go wrong with a calcutta especially the d's or te's. they are gonna cost ya a pretty penny though. daiwas and okumas are pretty decent reals from what ive read as well. now im sufe ill catch some heck for this but ive never had any luck with anything abu so in my book all there gear is garbage. maybe i always get the defected ones but after 4 reels i wont consider buying anything with there name on it. on the other hand they have a very big following ive just never been very impressed with them.
  5. the legs on the frog probably need trimmed. all frogs come with extra long legs so you can trim them to our liking.
  6. ill take a stanley ribbit in my pond over the ned any day of the week. but frogs have always been my favorite thing to fish. plus the frogs seem to put better quality fish in the boat where the ned seems to put a few more numbers in.
  7. hey they are both lews how could u go wrong
  8. ya i was just sayin you could find one used iwth trailer and motor for almost what you would get one new for
  9. just picking up the front of the boat and sitting it one the tail gate sounds great and ya thats how most guys do it. now imagine you just spent 5 hours on the lake in your brand new boat you get back to your truck now unload everything thats in it and sit it on the ground near your truck... now pick up one end of that brand new boat that looks all pretty and drag the other end across the rocks and gravel to your truck to sit it on the tail gate. ahhh now the easy part pick up other end and slide it in. oh no now look at the scratches and rips on the seem of your brand new boat. boy good thing it wasnt loaded with your stuff or itld be worse now for the dreaded trip home even after walking around your truck 3 times to make sure you picked everything up, did i remember to grab this or pick up that. not sure how many tackle boxes and fishiong poles ive found and lost like that. not to bad when you r tackle consists of a rod or two couple spinner baits bobbers sinkers hooks a couple bags of plastics and a crank or two but man loosing a rod you cant just go grab at walmart really sucks. not to mention every few years youll have to get the boat welded from dragging it. not trying to discourage you at all just tryin to give you a heads up on whats down the road. if i were you and trust me i was there onceand went with the back of the truck boat myself next year i bought a trailer. ild look for one that is used with a trailerand save yourself alot of headache even if it comes with a motor you can always sell the motor and get some money back
  10. its always funny how everyone thinks 14 foot jonboats are easy to load by yourself. ya it can be done but its a real pain by yourself ya they dont weigh much but its 14 foot of all awkwardness. if it were me ild try to find one used with a trailer alot easier to load even by hand
  11. took a good buddy of mine out this morning for some musky. his first trip for them ever we were both kinda worried he would be bored not catching a whole lot but he really enjoyed it. we actually got skunked but he managed to make it a full 8 hours. we only seen one fish, he got a follow on about his 5th cast, fish was right around forty so i think that really helped him make it the rest of the time he hasn't really ever seen anything that big before. seen some really nice bass but none of them wanted anything to do with the oversized gear we were throwing which really caught me by surprise usually the "d**n green carp" hammer the bigger lures since its something they really don't see often. all n all the final score was fisherman 0 fish 1 but it still turned out to be a great morning on the water
  12. everyone keeps talking about this ned rig contraption and i havnt caught a single fish on it yet. for me its the usually deep diving cranks and jerks around deep structure and nice breaks.
  13. i actually started using the trilene knot this winter for ice fishing (1lb line) and it has carried over to my summer fishing but i only twist it 4 times instead of 6
  14. im at the opposite end of this i prefer nothing after the real to really help feel everything that is happening down there with my lure. given my choice i prefer eva like on the older carrot stix just felt comfortable but noone uses it so all my rods are cork. looks wise ill take a split grip on my bass rods and full grip on my musky rods split on these makes the arm pit break out
  15. lews ss1hl 8 years old still goin strong. only thing ive done is oil and grease and ist been fished hard. was the first baitcaster i ever bought and it has set the bar pretty high
  16. dont waste your time with big company BS dobyns isnt spread thin like many other companies are they specialize in rods why because its what they do not like many of the others mentions who try to specialize in rods reels clothes tackle yada yada. look at most your good rods most guys talk about(dobyns gloomis kistler st croix)to name a few they stick with what they know. stcroix a few years back decided to do a realya that went over well oh thats right i dont think they make one anymore garbage. i mean when its all said and done you wouldnt take your car to a lawnmower mechanic would you lol but hey this is just my two cents
  17. dobyns comes with that lifetime replacement for a small fee which is awesome. i love my dobyns rods. i paired mine with a lews tournament mb and its an awesome combination. i dont think you will be disappointed. like i said im very happy with mine
  18. if i were you ild stop thinking about it and buy one already. there is a reason everyone seems to like them
  19. open up the side plate and make sure you have all the tension adjustments adjusted... i have a few quantoms and there is the tention knob by the handles, a dial for the magnetic brake and if you open them up there is another adjustment on the spol itself that you need to play with to get them dialed in. start every thing out tight and slowly loosen them up every couple casts till you get the real dialed in and find her sweet spot. the tention knob by the real handle is the first you want to loosen up to get it where you want and then slowly loosen the magnetic brake for your distance, then dial down the centrifical brake for the initial burst of speed. it may take awhile to get it where it needs to be but once you do boy look out ahore line youll be launchin the lures a mile
  20. wow i cant believe no one said anything about lews. Ive been fishing lews reels now for about 8 years and wouldn't consider buying anything else. i haven't had a single problem with them yet and none of my spinning reels are over 80. im sure if u dont need it today and can wait and post in classifieds you might even find a nicer(higher end model) for a reasonable price
  21. went to big turkey today caught maybe 20 bass in 3 hours and i brought home 3 sandwich fish i mean walleye all in all not a bad day but when that fryin pan starts to sizzle itll be even better
  22. boy i bet that was a blast. looks like u got photo bombed there lol. my cousin lives down in TN by kentucky lake she keeps tryin to get me to come down there says the lake is finominal this time of year. i just have a hard time leavin here when this is some of the best fishing all year round here. cough cough (before the lakers all show up) well now they are all here and now the fishing goes south til they are gone
  23. im pretty sure he stays right there in fort wayne but dont quote me on that. the only one i can think of is right there at the old wizards stadium at the appleseed park thing but like i said im not forsure what d**n dam he is fishing. but the lake im sure thats at the zoo, well right by it anyways
  24. a buddy of mine has been gettin good results in a river down there by a dam not sure exactly where though. i know he does decent in a pond over by zoo also teeth cut by a walleye i dunno ive never heard of that and we used to fish em with 6lb and jig head n minnow never had any problems. maybe a baby pike or a dang dog fish but i doubt it was a walleye. ive seen more dogfish this year then in my intire life dunno why but they have been freakin everywhere
