Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I fished the new honey hole. Get boat down to the water. Motor is broken. Works fine out of water. The shear pin broke. So I tried to paddle around, the winds quickly picked up and it just went down hill from there. Got a decent pickerel on a swimbait. Shore fish another spot after lunch. Got nothing. Tough day out there

When does the season start for you guys?
Thanks to the ocean and crazy MA weather I’ve been able to fish open water all winter. While 20 miles north or west had ice. 20 miles south wide open. Some weeks we had ice on most ponds but to thin to fish. Then a week later it was wide open. But now it’s been beautiful out. Above average temps it’s game on. The water is warming up!

Night Fishing
I use big swimbaitss at night in most ponds. Some ponds they don’t want big bait or topwater so I use a jig, spinner bait, Texas rig, and chatter baits. Just crawl on bottom.

Big Swimbait Beginner Questions
Buy a few baits and learn them. Don’t jump in and buy a bunch of baits. Figure out what works for your style. You can get big fish on “cheaper baits” don’t need to jump the hype train with pre orders and bait drops. You don’t need the most expensive baits to be cool. It’s over rated. Buy what works for you. I have a good amount of baits. But only a few makers I buy from. swimbaits are another tool. Some guys are swimbaits only. That’s it. I still fish conventional gear.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
So I went back to my new honey hole I found a few weeks ago. Wasn’t getting anything so I decided to try out my new Matt’s shad. Wanted to see the action and get a feel for the bait. I was shocked it immediately got hit as soon as I twitched it. So I decided to stay a little after sun down. Tried the Matt’s nothin had a new slammer with me so I tied it on. Nothing for a bit, on the last cast it got bit. I’m shocked I got topwater fish so early in the year.

Help with ice fishing
When you first go to check the ice keep drilling holes as you walk out. I tie a rope around a tree then around my waste ice thickness can change quickly. You can be on 6 Inch of ice. 10 feet away can be 2 inches. If I know the pond is “safe” After I checked it with the rope. Then I won’t use the rope anymore just the ice picks. I LOVE jiggin. It’s really fun.

How do YOU fish a swimbait?
Usually slow. I fish topwater baits like slammers and soft baits like hudds. Most of the time I’m going slow. Some time dead sticking. Sometimes twitching. Don’t really burn them In.
